For all you Mountain Bikers stuck in Quarantine, here are some tips on how to stay in touch with the sport and be productive during these unprecedented times.
The local kids in Melbourne have spent their Home schooling. Smashing their work out as fast as possible. Then digging and sessioning the local Gorge. It's pretty awesome to see
All fun and games until the comment about not getting money back after Fort William was cancelled ???? was gunna be my first World Cup. Now I’m just struggling to get a refund from Delta for my flight ffs
@lance-19 That sucks. You're always welcome here fella, and I'm sure the organizers are giving full refunds. Poor substitute, but you going to make it to the online gathering? www.facebook.com/events/558581221751818
@digitalsoul: Lol. We shot this originally for the Pinkbike Academy submission and were done by May. We were just slow to release the cut down public version.
@mtb-scotland: the United Kingdom has a higher per capita case rate than the United States, 56.46 per 100k people vs 30.69 per 100k. UK also has a higher mortality rate 14% vs 5.9% in the US. Moral of the story...move to Canada! Source: John Hopkins
@mtb-scotland: rest of the world- hey let's hunker down for a few weeks, get things under control and then re-open in a smart, responsible fashion while contact tracing every new case. Murica- I ain't afraid of no virus, public health guidelines are for the weak, if grandma dies, she dies.
@RoadStain dude, you're boring as f*ck. Do you ever stop whining? Have you always been such a wet wipe or is this a mid-age crisis thing? Is an anorak your favourite piece of clothing?
@roma258: our infection rate is staying at about the same as well. We flattened the curve... next winter when it blows up again at least we’ll have heard immunity in our favor.
@tollboothrichie: Even Canada has a marginally higher mortality rate than we do -- last I checked mortality for those tested positive was 7%, while we were at 6% (or 5.9, as you have here). They do have a lower percentage of the population has tested positive.
A few European countries have an insane mortality rate among those who have tested positive -- double digits! France is close to 20%!
USA total pop: 328 million COVID-19 deaths: 100,000 [lockdown] Japan total pop: 126 million [condensed (island)] COVID-19 deaths: 850 [no lockdown] 2 + 2 = 5?
@jaydawg69: thank you for the insightful article. If everything is relatively true in that article we only have 50% further population that needs to be exposed.
@TheR: Wait, so if I test a body in a dumpster for salmonilla, can we consider salmonilly the cause or dealth? That is what they are doing wtih COVID, you know that, right?
@FlysDown: I mean, Japan absolutely had shelter in place, contact tracing, quarantine and almost ubiquitous mask usage. So....not sure where you're getting your info. time.com/5818228/japan-coronavirus-response
@RoadStain: Are you seriously confusing HIV with a highly transmittable airborne disease dumb, dumb? Also too, HIV killed lots of people until effective antiviral treatments were developed like 15 years later. We've already lost over 100,000 people and you're out here acting a fool.
@roma258: Yes, easy, both are viral. That simple. Heck, there still is not a cure for rabies....
Can you please name a single virus that has been taken care of with an inoculation? (please, say the flu, please, please, please) While the transmission is vastly different, the end result is clear for both. Plus, that number is massively overstated, there is no denying that.
And now, from WHO : "WHO guidance: Healthy people should wear masks only when 'taking care of' coronavirus patients: - huh, odd....I wonder if they are right this time....
@RoadStain: Yeah, I know that. My point is, when you break down percentages, the U.S. is on par with the rest of the western world in terms of infections +/- a tenth of a percent, and doing a lot better than other countries in terms of death rates, including a lot of Western Europe and Canada. The Asian countries really kicked its ass -- regional immunity?
@TheR: You are spot on, there are so many things that people want to deny in our current politically correct climate. There are many instances where "stereotype-X" has more or less propensity for a condition, but, when mentioned immediately someone is crucified...Sickle Cell Anemia for instance.....somehow even college textbooks are being re-written to be PC (wait, but when we check in a PT we are given nine options for gender...yes, nine...no matter what, there are two).
@mtb-scotland: I just looked it up within our system. We currently have over 400 patients who are identified as having sickle cell anemia. Of those patients every single one of them has African-American as their race. I suppose the reality of a diagnosis is now racist also? While any human can get almost any condition the preponderance of a condition is frequently a genetic factor that is just as frequently based on a gender and or race. Like it or not that is the reality. Way back in the day aids was considered something that only gays got do you happen to wonder why? Oh-oh, that's right because by and large only gay people had it.
@RoadStain: no idea what your system has to do with the genetic trait of SCA. Just because it is predominately black people that have it doesn't make it a black affliction only. The diagnosis isn't racist, how can it be? The assumption that only black people can have SCA is ignorant. If a text book says only black people can have it then that would be wrong and should be corrected.
@mtb-scotland: Fact is, you hear breast cancer you think women. Hell, for all we know I have a goiter with ovaries from a vestigial twin that has ovarian cancer, it is possible.....not common, but, possible.
@Matt115lamb: true that. They need to start putting their foot down when the riots get out of hand. They make rubber bullets these days for a reason.(non-lethal) they need to start taking the videos these idiots are posting on social media and arresting them for association to crimes being committed. I get that the police officer is guilty....hell they’ve arrested him on 3rd degree murder charges now. Go home looters and a*sholes. The guys going to go through his due process now. They’ve destroyed their home neighborhoods and destroyed their already hurting local businesses. Good job on them.
@scotttherider: ANY other person would have been in jail from the second the video hit the streets. ANY other person, but, this cop got to go home. Shameful.
Big question here, with the number of LEGAL armed people who have the right to protect ourselves and those around us....what if someone shot the cop to save the life of the dead man? ANYONE but a cop, with the video would be justified...but, had someone shot this murderer of a cop the rest of the police would have gunned them down.
THIS is why we have a right to bear arms, THIS is a tyrannical government and the police have been running wild and lawless for decades.
@RoadStain: I kind of agree with you on this , I’d like to think if I witnessed that I’d be kicking up such a fuss that the officer would have to let off that poor guys neck or I’d get shot ! You got to blame trump for all the looting and riots , if he said the right things from day one instead of trolling twitter with his vile “ looting shooting “ hate speech tweets AND had this murdering cop with he wingmen arrested I’m sure none of this US MELTDOWN would’ve happened. But saying that , it’s been brewing for along time and trump is popping your corks big time !
@RoadStain: I’m not arguing them prosecuting the police officer. The guy deserves to go to jail. I’m saying the f*cknuts burning down their own neighborhoods are way the f*ck out of line.
@scotttherider: Absolutely. But in hindsight if you reference the American Revolution it is not too much different.
An entire socioeconomic class of our nation has felt underprivileged since the time that Democrats were treating them as slaves and actually fought a war to keep them as slaves.
@Matt115lamb: It is funny that a Brit is pointing out that commonly/purposefully misused statement that the Democrats of long ago(otherwise known as the conservative party), somehow have anything to do with the Democrats today.
@notreallyhere: No kidding. The fact is the Dem base (specifically when it comes to blacks) is for what "program" they can get (seemingly for nothing). I work with many blacks who can not stand all of the college garbage and affirmative action trash (women feel the same way). When it comes to treating patients, or staff there is ALWAYS the thought that they are/were either an affirmative action hire and simply not the best candidate for a position (among ALL candidates) or hired simply for their gender or color. Hell, even the Asians got sick of it....remember that lawsuit?
The current Dems know that their base tends to be lower-income, tends to be lower educated (by the public schools run by, you guessed it, Dems) and in crime-riddled cities (again, run by Dems). Then the "man" loves to get these people into the system from birth (WIC), public aid, welfare and right to their first arrest (by corrupt cops) and then to probation, prison, and parole - repeat.
If that is not owning an entire class of citizens, well, I am not sure what is.
(Oh, and Dems like the Kennedys or Hollywood simply do not count, most of them have NEVER worked a real job in their lives....then, there are folks like Tim Allen....now that man has every reason on earth to be a good Republican).
Edit, I work with five "African-Americans", all five were born in Africa and moved to the US. Four of the five are white. The fifth? Ask him, he is black (and from Africa) and currently 100% American.
Yes, rich people are more likely to vote republican, because rich people know that republicans will give rich people more handouts and tax cuts. The lower and middle income people that vote republican always confuse me,since they are going to be worse of economically for it. It would be nice if they were all voting because of another reason, but some seem to think that they might actually benefit economically from republican leadership, despite the fact that is never the case.
You don't know the definition of African-Americans, never would have guessed. For future reference, African American people are not people who have immigrated from Africa, they are certainly not white people who have immigrated from South Africa. That would be like saying that I am Native Alaskan since I was born in Alaska.
@notreallyhere: I’m fairly certain he was just regarding African Americans as the fifth+generations of black people that live here that have no idea what it means to be African....
I work with several black people and they all vote conservative. They’re tired of the handouts that are used to keep them in the system. They all work hard to make names and reputations for themselves as to not be associated with the thug-life that they came up out of. The current system we have is failing and we need to address it.
What’s happening in our country regarding what happened in the twin cities makes our entire country look like a bunch of f*cktards. Burning down and looting stores in our own communities across the country because a cop used excessive force is ludicrous.
@scotttherider: Uh, no. He said that he works with 5 "African-American" people that were born in Africa, and 4 are white. So, he works with 0 African-American people.
I work with a bunch of white guys that mostly vote republican, because they think it may benefit them in some way, financially and because their values are better represented by the republican party. They did get a little over 50 dollars less taken out of their checks since the tax breaks, they just aren't aware that putting the country massively more in debt to give them $50 a check and uber rich people many, many times that will have to be paid back somehow and that programs will have to be cut that they benefit from(like highways, bridges, military and many many others).
What happened in the Twin Cities was a handcuffed Man was Murdered by police, with people watching telling them to stop because they are going to kill him. They even got out their pepper spray to keep the citizens from stopping them from murdering the handcuffed man. They didn't stop and murdered him in broad daylight with tons of witnesses. Oh but the real story is some stuff got broken....got it.
@notreallyhere: since trump became president my taxes have not changed a bit. I still pay combined over $50k a year in taxes. He gave the working class a tax break anyone making really over about $100k saw no break.
I’ve said numerous times on this post what that cop did was a travesty and he’s going to be prosecuted for his actions. Justice served. Burning down businesses that have done nothing but suffer these last 3 months because you’re pissed about his death is bullshit and proves nothing.
But, I have as much time for hyphenated folks as I do for delusional patients who just cant figure out the basics

Murica- I ain't afraid of no virus, public health guidelines are for the weak, if grandma dies, she dies.
Oh, and no, I do not care about your grandmother, nor your kid that may be alergic to peanuts.

as for viral vaccines. just of the top of my head - polio, measles, rubella, small pox, mumps, rabies, hep A, hep B, HPV
