Marin Bikes Quake 7.9 - Interbike 2009

 i don't usually like marins but that looks mean!

 Does all the freeride and DH stuff like a beast... and then it'll turn around and climb like a goat.
10 year warranty..
My 08 7.3 (slightly different from stock is 39lbs)
Never feels like it bottoms out when you max the supsension.
Been selling them since 2006 -- they rock!!!
Been selling other bikes with around the same amount travel --- Marin's design has them licked.

I am confused here, does living in Marin County change the way the bike rides? I live in Canada and I think it rides great...

 It looks really good but the center of gravity is a bit high, just my opinion, probably rides like a beast though.

 people say: "it looks heavy" -- don't know, what's heavy?

I had the 2007 7.2 -- beefed it up with Saint cranks, heavy duty Michelin tires, sorta heavy Kaprun wheels -- it was 42lbs.

My 2008 7.3 is only slightly modified from stock and it's dead-even on 39lbs (with Time Z pedals).

whatever weight you think that it, light or heavy, it never feels heavy when you're riding it.

and I'll say it again, it climbs like a goat - I have to say, I have had at least 15 or 16 different full squish bikes with around 6 to 7 inch travel - none of them come even close as far as climbing goes. And it matches or beats the rest in all the other FR depts. Throw a dual crown fork on it, you'll give all those big hit DH rigs a run for their money.

 Pininator, I have raced mine a few times. Super stiff through corners and the pedaling really cuts times down. I wish it had a bit more travel, hence why I got the 8" link from Shaums March. I have not been able to try it with the link yet but I cannot wait.

 my only 'beef' (not that it's a real knock against the design) just a little undecided about the taper'd headtube but hey, --- the bicycle industry always copies the motorcycle industry -- they're doing it so I guess it'll stick.

I guess I just wish there was more sellection as far as headsets and bearings.

 I wish they could do a little refinement on the bike. A little refining would make it more refined. Maybe when they refine it I will buy the refined one.

 i love my marin..i rode one at a demo, came home and sold my socom and my custom felt redemption to get this bike.built mine from frame up.i got on my friends 88 and i got right back on mine..im waiting to see about the team d/h..but any ways these bikes ride so good..im very happy with mine..

 Not trying to sound like a prick, but curious how many of you that love your Marin race dh? I've been pondering one for a while and haven't really seen many in this area, so I haven't been able to get much feedback. Thanks!

 looks like head angles are geting lower and lower over the years... Barels bike Mondraker with 60 degrees head angle, freeride bikes like that Marin with 64.5 degrees, almost the same of a Intense M6... looks like the trails are geting more dificult than ever and bike geometry is geting more futuristic...

 Pininator, Order one up for the shop man, it will definately be worth it. I came into my shop one day looking for a new frameset and no real idea on what I wanted. I took my buddies for a ride and ordered one up I liked it that much. Now 2 seasons later, and a bunch of parts, its spec'ed way more DH than before and still pedals really well. I absolutely love the bike cant think of anything else I would trade it on.

 if shaums march says it rips. im giong to believe it. i use to ride with him, well following his dust, in santa barbara. this guy has been on a lot of bikes and he is real when it come to what he thinks about bikes. he has road for schwinn, ellsworth, chumba, norco and now marin. marin bikes rip. get over the looks . you cant see it when your on it haha.FYI the suspension design is a vpp and how the swing arm is so high, hardly any chain slap like the santa cruz bikes and intense bikes.

 I rekon it looks pretty ace, and you all seem to love the sus! Don't you think though, that its all set too high within the frame? I mean if im chattering downhill at a rate, i want the weight at my pedals not at my thighs! Maybe its better for hucking and jumping. Id love to ride one adn see what all the fuss is about

 I wouldnt trade my 7.3 for anything. The bike does everything, and doesnt feel like a wet noodle doing it. I cannot praise that frame enough, kick ass design guys!! I cannot wait for the Quad DH.

 marin's always getting better..one of the few companies that has a unique rear suspension design that really works...this one with only 180mm beats the crap out of +200mm bikes. the same goes with the attack trail with only 140mm versus others with 160mm

 i wouldnt trade my marin for anything, except maybe an evil or session 88, but even then i i would have a hard tme doing so. the quake is a efing champ and if i do get a new bike it just might be this

 I haven't personally seen the Quake slammin' pure DH around these parts -- but the one I have seen on-line, I think all of them were set up with dual crown forks: 888, Boxxer and the 40's.

 Hey felt20, its on my bike already so I dont know how good of a shot I can get.
Basically it looks like they just moved the shock mount location back about 1/4" or so. its a pretty tight fit down there now.

 just got a 2009 7.9 with full saint and went directly to whistler for 3 days! if you could only have one bike, this is it. 40.12lbs bone stock. corners like crazy and feels like a dh rig on big hits.

 Marin has never been that big in the states, considering they kept advertising they were among the first originators of the MTB.

 it looks sick and lots of ground clearance probably do some huge drops on that and never bottom out and short wheel base to so tricks should be pretty easy to!

 marin are just the sweetest bikes and just got better to

 with all that linkage it must be pretty heavy? anyone know?

 when will we see the DH version?

 I am sure that Marin makes a great bike but I can't get over the way they look.

 Comeing from a guy who rides a stinky Marins are such good bikes it such a shame that everyone takes them on face vaule

 nohypebikes, oh yeah that bike loves Whistler. We spend a week there every year, absolutely perfect for it.
