Press Release: Dakine

Dakine has a deep rooted history in mountain biking going back more than 20 years. Throughout this time many things have changed, but one rider has remained a constant part of the Dakine Ohana. This season we celebrate the legendary Thomas Vanderham with the release of his Signature Series collection. With multiple pieces designed to handle every type of condition Thomas encounters while riding on his home trails of Vancouver's North Shore, this Signature Series is not only a tribute to Thomas, but his favorite riding spots as well.

"The Signature Series is a combination of old favourites and new pieces. The Vectra short for example has been my go-to for awhile and I thought a pant version would be an awesome addition as a lightweight, pedal friendly piece. Similarly, a hybrid material jersey is nice to bridge the gap on those days you might be debating between a jacket and a long sleeve jersey. I think it is about building some new pieces off of the products I've loved for awhile." -Thomas Vanderham

His section with Sam Hill in Follow Me has to be one of the greatest film segments of all time. For the Vanderham fans out there:

My boy, also named Thomas, was brought up on those movies. He has no middle name and was just 3 or 4 I think when he asked if his middle name could be Vanderham! I think I may have found his next set of ride kit, if they do sizes for a small 12 year old.

I've trying to find the pics/vid from that Vanderham jump at Retallack Lodge that went over that huge boulder to a blind landing. I can't remember what the hell its from. Any idea? I saw it in person, dude is straight bonkers. I love his riding.

Any time they bring back stuff for that generation of freeriders, I always think of that crazy ass boulder under the lift at Whistler. Still can't see how they rode down it.

I'm presently ordering so I can get some Vanderstyle to add to my haggard skill set.. That said he is one of the finest riders I have ever had the honour of riding with. He came down to Jamaica to big up the Fat Tyre Festivalwhere we descended from the peak 7,402' for 7 miles to Mavis Bank on the John Crow/Blue Mountain trail that was featured in Decline. Wonderful guy to hang with..... here is the Pinkbike article from 2011 www.pinkbike.com/news/Jamaica-Fat-Tyre-Festival-2011-Part-1.html

I have a feeling the whole Shore is built for Vanderham. He shows up at the best trails every two years or so with a camera and boosts higher than anyone previously. Then goes away.

He's riding a RMB....has he cut ties with Haro?
  • 3 0
He's been on Rocky for a good few years in this second sponsorship deal - he was on them in 2011 until maybe 2015/6 and then again from 2019ish - in between he was on Evil I think. Haro seems to not have featured in his career. You thinking of someone else?
  • 1 0
@paulskibum: yeah I'm thinking of another dude, can't remember who but he's got Haro frames and Marzz forks

 padded gloves... for real Thomas?
  • 4 0
Dudes taken more impact hucking sick features through those hands than either of us have tossed off 5 knuckle chuckles in our lifetimes... So I'd think he's def earned the 'right' to wear some padded gloves... or hell, whatever the heck he wants to be honest.
