Bike Check: Dawid Godziek's NS Decade Dirt Jump Bike

by James Smurthwaite

Dawid Godziek only started competing in mountain biking events in 2018 but he's already risen to become one of the best riders in the sport. Bringing his deep bag of tricks learned in the BMX world to slopestyle courses around the world, he's already medalled at two Crankworx events and is getting more ambitious with each run.

We were so impressed with Dawid's latest edit that we decided to have a look around the bike he was using to pull it off. Both the Godziek brothers ride NS Decade frames and Dawid runs his with a RockShox Pike fork, a hydraulic gyro and a SRAM singlespeed set up. Let's get stuck into all the details:

NS Bikes built its name in dirt jumping and the aluminium Decade the frame of choice of both of the Godziek brothers and Max Fredrikson.

Trickstuff's Trixer Gyro allows Dawid to run hydraulic brakes while also spinning his bars in both directions as much as he likes. The Trixer is one of the only hydraulic gyros on the market and it apparently went way over budget in the design process for Trickstuff, but they just wanted to prove they could do it. For more info, read our first look, here.

That gyro is linked to a Trickstuff Piccola brake. The Piccola isn't as powerful as the four-pot Maxima, but if you're only using it once at the end of a slopestyle run, the lighter weight is more important.

Also minimalist is the drivetrain for Dawid. He runs a 32T chainring and a 13T cog.

The Continental Speed King Race Sport tyre is designed to be fast-rolling on hardpack for lightweight XC builds but it works for Dawid's purposes too.

Industry 9 Hydra hubs on both wheels.

Amazing! Wish my decade looked that good! something about that dark purple..

The darker the berry, the sweeter the juice.

@Neale78: the darker the flesh then the deeper the roots

Carbon bars is a bit surprising? I guess that says something about those particular bars though.
  • 2 0
Especially when running 200psi in the forks, yep!

A lot of guys ran the raceface carbon bars at rampage a few years ago and mine snapped on a small drop and almost killed me. Still won’t trust them

Yeah makes you wonder, if he can do it...

 @jaycubzz: Pedantic? Forkses.
  • 1 1
 @Neale78: Nope, just correct.
  • 2 1
@Neale78: Yup. Still fork in this instance. Thanks!

@jaycubzz: you get 'em Captain Grammar! Oh wait, yup isn't a real word, you failed.

 Must be partially sighted too..

"Ok guys, this may shock you, but:

UK English = forks
Amer. English = fork

End of. That's right - there are differences in the regional variations of certain languages! That's amazing!

Now stop bitching about it."

@Neale78: Hahaha, you are so triggered. Love it.

 @Duderz7: You too!

It comes with a "Ride like Dawid" App so all you have to do is send it and the app and bike takes care of the rest!!

Slack, low 29 inch wheels. None of the above yet this bike is sick! If ya have the skillz to pilot the beast.

@sshredder yes... but you agree that there are different applications for bikes right? It would be like arguing against the angles of an F1 car because an F150 does a great job at hauling hay, skidding and bumping up logging roads and often working (Ford joke...nailed it.). Agreed it is a very cool DJ bike (drool worthy for sure) but geometry progression in DH/Enduro are a different discussion.

@snl1200: what makes up oh 90 percent of the content on PB. Slack and low.
I'm complimenting the DJ bike. I'm also complimenting PB for show us other types of riding. Other bikes.
I personally have zero interest in slack and low 29ers.
Still rocking my 26 inch mini DH bike.
26 inch wheels take more skill to appreciate. They are also lighter , faster on acceleration, stronger.
It's refreshing to see something different.

@Sshredder: This is a DJ/slopestyle bike. Has nothing to do with your 26er DH rig. I'm sure your bike rips, but it's a different category.
  • 2 0
@swenzowski: Ive ridden a 29er dh bike, a 26 dh bike and a dirt jumper and I got to say, the 26ers make the dh bike feel much closer to a dj bike
  • 1 0
@Hiben: that sounds like fun. Maybe I should buy one of these cheap 26er DH bikes to hit the local dirt jump spot lol
  • 1 0
@swenzowski: Lol just sayin 29ers aren't fun on anything except tech

So I have an NS Movement frame from the US. What’s the difference between my frame and his? Are they the same frame with just two different names because different countries or what?
  • 2 0
Nope, it's a bit different geo
  • 3 0
 Curious the crank length????
  • 2 0
Its so much fun just watching him ride. Love that he competes.
  • 3 0
 Ohhhh so nice

As an engineer, I don't know whether to be impressed that trickstuff was able to make a functional hydraulic gyro, or a little disgusted that they even tried to make one. You can't beat the simplicity and reliability of cable pull disk brakes. They are the way to go for dirt jumpers. Tho, I love the amazing bling of it. The whole bike is gorgeous!

Cables get gummed up and gross quickly - especially on dirt jumpers which are often thrown in the dirt. Cables also stretch and require constant adjustment. Seei Hydraulic disc brakes are by far a better option

Engineers, making vegans seem less pretentious and annoying everyday.
  • 1 1
@Larkey1: Do you have a hydraulic gyro? Whether hydraulic or cable brakes are better for dj without a gyro is debatable. But with a gyro, cable seems far more sensible to me.

As a Virgo, I found this to be a nice bit of tech.
  • 2 1
 weight?
  • 1 1
I was wondering the same thing, wouldn't surprise me if it's sub 20lbs, so many light weight parts on that thing. Amazing build.
  • 2 0
@oathead: My guess is low 20s. With carbon cranks and rims, it could easily drop below 20 lbs though.
  • 2 0
In a recent bike check David said it weighs a hair below 10kgs, the lightest claimed weight with a carbon crank (destroyed at Crankworx) was 9,8kgs.
  • 3 2
 200psi on a fork lol
  • 1 1
So nice! Rather have a Majesty tho
  • 1 1
 CroMo vs Aluminum?

Steel gives so your back doesn’t have to.
