Closely fought on 11 and 13. Shame about the loser in 13 dropping out. That photo would have gone through if it had been matched up with some of the other winners.
  • 17 0
Yeah i agree... I think the either-or set up killed a couple of great photos... well, i guess it killed 16 great photos, but some didn't need to go out in round one (9 and 13 for example)
I'm not sure what type of format they should use to fix this but i guess either way it'll be narrowed down to one winner.

Great fuhkin job to everyone tho
  • 3 0
 agree!
  • 7 6
Can somebody please tell me why that picture one match up #7?
  • 3 0
only disagree with matchup 8 but it's my opinion
  • 4 1
Perhaps because the one that lost was creative...but was also hands down the worst shot on here. The other one looks like something out of a sick movie!
  • 1 0
yeah i know. it;s just that i love 360's lol
  • 1 0
Bummer that two great photos had to go up against eachother in #2, I would have liked to see both of them go farther. Same with #12 and #3
  • 6 2
 Disagree with #16
  • 5 1
 @yeah bro

Because it's awesome.
  • 2 0
 lol i'm pretty sure i voted for the losers on like every one. i am disappoint. so long, 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 10, 13 and 16.
  • 1 1
I thought the losers from 13 and 5 should have been in the top 4.
  • 4 0
#16 the second one should have one it is way sicker!!!
  • 1 0
you guys can argue about the match ups and which ones should have gone through all you want, and i agree, some should have made it past the 1st round, but this is a contest, and the best photo will win no matter who its matched up against.
  • 2 0
 yea defnatly 16 got shafted
  • 1 1
i think the winner of 1 will win it all
  • 6 1
Advertise somewhere else, not on here.
  • 1 2
the options for 7 and 11 both kind of suck...
  • 28 3
 disagree with matchup #13
  • 9 0
 Big time!
  • 5 0
Both are great and very climatic pictures, but something made me vote for the one on the left... The right one is a beautiful photo with a beautiful scenery, but the left one seems to have a bit more of a poetical accent, something that gripped my heart and told me to vote for it, although I usually like cooler colours and mountain sceneries more. Today's matchup number 7 is even more dilemmatic!
  • 3 0
I'd say it's because there are more people who are DH-oriented on this site and that one had a bit more of a DH riding style in it.
  • 2 1
The loser in 13 is a way better shot. Also i don't like the artificial lighting in the winner.
  • 4 0
Agreed, #13 just doesn't make sense. I though the losing shot was one of the best i'd seen! What more do ya want? a DH bike? lame!
  • 3 0
i agree with you! the second photo is better! it's an epic photo!
  • 2 0
They're both spectacular. Lighting in the winner doesn't look artificial to me. It was a criminal matchup - they are both easily in the top 5 of all photos for me.
  • 2 0
Disagree with ALL of you guys! It was a BIT of a tough choice for me, but I choose the winner. 1. Do not like the shadow in bottom right corner of loser. SO DISTRACTING! 2. That light does not look artificial in the winner. 3. all the colors in the winner match. no dark shadows right next to bright greens. It just flows better in my opinion. 4. They had 1 chance at getting the winning shot if you read about it. If they had missed it they would have had to hope the rider didn't go too far, he would have had to run the h*ll back up, and if you have ever shot a sunset you would know that the sun would be WAY gone by then....
But don't take my word for it Smile
  • 1 0
i never looked in the corner. it never got my attention, the rest of the picture did. it's an amazing shot compared to the other one, way better colours and more pleasing to the eye.
  • 12 0
damn some of those were close two with 50.3 vs 49.7 such hard decisions....
  • 3 0
Yeah i spent an hour thinking about match up 13!
  • 7 0
the chairlift photo, winner of #7. although it lacks any action, it puts me there- for lack of a better way to describe it. i just feel like theres something magic about that photo. i think it might go a long way for a photo lacking any actual "riding".
chiarlift photo FTW!
  • 8 0
voting for these was really hard. they are all such sick photos is hard to chose the best
  • 4 0
The only one I am not sure about was #10 i really think that the wrong picture lost that round. other than that i think the votes were good. even the good ones that lost didnt lose by much, so it says alot for how good all these photos are.
  • 7 1
Stoked for all the Whistler shots in here especially Ian Morrison's INSANE scrub on A-Line shot by Mike Goldstein.
  • 1 0
 Ya, that shot is INSANE!!!
  • 2 0
Michael Goldstein's photo is one of my favourites in here by far...I can't imagine how long it took to shoot a photo like that. Needless to say, all of the other entries are amazing as well.
  • 1 0
I think the only one that I really struggle to understand and agree with in Matchup 4. Sure its a great waterfall and the idea of a slow exposure and using a flash is innovative but I have to get my "Where's Wally" on to find the rider. For me I think for it to be in this competition the rider needs to be 1. The subject of the photo and 2. Most salient part of the photo. I think the other photo in matchup 4 better fits my personal criteria and the light on the bike is an awesome idea Smile
  • 5 0
damn i was hoping one of those 2 pics from Victoria B.C. would make it Frown
  • 6 1
I'm sorry, but pretty much half of the winners, weren't the good ones...
  • 1 2
 agreed
  • 1 2
 Yup, i'm with you guys.
  • 4 0
I'm sorry, but i think the majority of the people disagree with you
  • 1 0
Disagree. Its Photo of year, not cool trick of the year. Im not saying ur saying that but i think alot of people were. I think pretty much every one deserved to win. The winners of this round were all better photographs overall than the ones voted off the island.
  • 1 0
I'm no photographer, so I honestly have no idea how much effort it even takes to get these kind of shots.
  • 3 0
Blazer. a neat article behind the scenes about one of the photos in the contest www.pinkbike.com/news/The-long-way-to-the-right-moment-2011.html
  • 2 0
Thanks Karl. That was good insight to the whole process. Never imagined it would be multiple days of railing the same corner to get the perfect shot.
  • 4 0
we can disagree all we want, but in the end we picked the top 16
  • 1 0
If we all agreed on the results the scores would be100% to 0%.

We all have our opinions, and just becuase your opinion does not match the result, does not make the result wrong.

Kudo's to all the photographers!!
  • 3 0
 ...its so hard to choose!
  • 1 0
 N°1 winner! Smile
  • 3 0
hoping # 12 makes it all the way
  • 1 0
Really thought the picture that lost round 10 should have won it all. That is the most EPIC mountain biking picture I've ever seen and would love a poster of that shot.
  • 3 0
Sooo many desktop backgrounds! Big Grin
  • 1 0
 its so hard to choose!
  • 2 0
windows 7 has a slide show option for varied desktop backgrounds out of 1 folder
  • 1 0
 Yep Big Grin
  • 3 0
Voting round 2 was damn near impossible!!! Especially #7
  • 1 0

  • 1 0

pic in match 13, gone!!! such a shame!!!
  • 3 0
That snap was my favorite. Beautifully shot.
  • 1 0
A little unexpected for some of these, but I'm happy to see a few of my favorites move forward.
  • 2 0
Every one of those photos are already winners. Props to who took them!
  • 1 0
Match up 13 was tuff, i likes the Dolomite shot as my overall favorite shot
  • 1 0
Damn, I think it's a shame, some of these photos are really great, it's too bad some of them were so close.
  • 1 0
the 4 photos in match-ups 10 and 13 are amazing, and deserve at least final 8 i think
  • 2 0
11, 12 ,14 and 15 were no brainers for me and they lost!
  • 1 0
very much disagree with 10 and 13, very happy about 11, really didn't want that other one to win
  • 1 1
What, people how did you vote for the winner of #2? i mean it's an awesome perspective but a bit boring overall, the other had sooo much flow!
  • 1 0
We can defenetly see that pinkbike followers are much more downhillers than dirtjumpers...
  • 1 0
The Claw photo, all the way!! ((((......claw marks......))))
  • 1 0
match up 11 and 13 are close
  • 1 0
 Great photos! Awesome pictures!
  • 1 0
 Big time disagree with #13
  • 1 0
12 was wrong! other one was much better!
  • 13 12
The result of Matchup #3 is an embarrassment.
  • 8 0
 Nuh-uh
  • 5 6
 yuh-uh
  • 9 0
Perhapse 'embarrassment' is too strong a word
  • 4 2
I'd say 4 was worse. The winner is a good photo but it's barely a bike photo, you can hardly see the rider.
  • 2 0
I personally enjoy a good whip Wink
  • 2 0
definitely agree with the #4 comment....
  • 2 0
...I don't even mean compositionally or riding-wise or anything, just that the winning photo of matchup #3 has a disgusting amount of photoshop abuse going on. Holy over sharpening grossness, look at the halo around the rider!
  • 2 1
Let me remind you that the winners have been chosen by the people. Both are amazing photos, but one won by a landslide which should tell you something. You are just wrong.
  • 5 0
...pretty sure the photoshop abuse is a fact, but it turns out that the average Pinkbike user loves photoshop abuse. And THAT's what's embarrassing.
  • 1 0
im dissapointed with majority of the results
  • 1 0
Yes, photoshop use is a fact. Why not use the greatest technology available to make a photo as good as it can be? I can see your side of the argument, and I respect your opinion. I honestly don't care about the use of photoshop as long as it is not too extreme, and the end result is what is most important to me.
  • 1 0
 match up 7 disappoints me.
  • 1 0
All of these photos are beyond amazing...
  • 4 3
The #11 loser should not have lost!
  • 1 4
 yeah, really, and 12 too..
  • 2 0
#11 is the only one is disagree with. I just love how it is shot from below the tall grass like that. The winner is great shot too, but I like the like the loser better. I guess I am not the only one, that was a close match!
  • 2 1
The winning photo in #1 does nothing for me.
  • 1 0
The looser of #10 is my favourite, shame to see it not get any further!
  • 1 0
Agreed. This was a close battle but in my mind, #10 is a much better photo. It's too bad the way they paired them up in round one. There are some photos that have made it to round two that wouldn't beat either photo from #10 in round one. I see what they did though... tried to match up similar type photos against each other right from the get go.
  • 1 0
some tough match-ups there! all are excellent photos
  • 1 0
Voted for Rd. 2. Can't wait for the next round! tup
  • 1 0
.03 difference, wow, that was close, but all of mine were picked!!!
  • 2 0
 Match up 11. Not right.
  • 1 0
Agree with ALL the matchups actually.
  • 1 0
Matchup 13 was criminal. That is all.
  • 1 0
Strongly believe the one on the left was far better on number 6
  • 1 0
i voted for all the winning pics o.O
  • 1 0
 # 14 FTW!!!!!!
  • 2 0
i don't know if that's a good comment, but Marc Landry's photo was so much better, just my opinion. Timing and lighting is excellent, sure the sunset is a nice location and scenery, sometimes viewing these photos I don't like the match ups, I think its bases on votes....I dunno. that's all I have to say about that.
  • 1 0
 # 7 is the best.
  • 1 0
 11 right. 13-left
  • 1 0
 it was pretty close
