Crankworx - Canadian Open XC
They are probably running tubs (yet you can get those for mountain bikes now) so can go that low with their pressure, more comfortable, more grip, bit lighter as well I suppose.

Photos, Video+Results: Fat Tire Crit - Crankworx Whistler 2013
Crit races are much better for spectators who can view most of the course without having to walk very far (making it a good opening event), the duration of the even and the speeds that are held mean it is anerobic which makes it tough. Who doesn't want to watch people suffer as they pump their legs around a course? It was the opening event for crankworx (and as I am no expert by any means I assume that is a big thing to most dh/dj/enduro/slopestyle riders) but is showing the other possibilities for a two wheeled sport. Much like at sea otter they have the XC races, would you consider those events total crap?

WARNING: This is a project bike and needs quite a bit doing to it, back break sticks on quite badly, cranks keep coming loose (bottom bracket likely needs doing) and the cranks have been re-threaded to take a pair of pedals (instead of the two right handed threads previously). Plenty of frame chips, has been badly touched up in the past. There is plenty of potential but I have neither the time nor the funds to do it.
£75 for the bike, pick up from Rugby/Coventry/Leamington/Northampton area

Video: Trails For All Seasons - A Trail Builder's Success Story
If they can't handle a few jumps on their 29er hardtail then they probably need to work on their bike handling skills. I fail to see why a few jumps in a fitness loop would be a bad thing, have a descent with the jumps in, an ascent without any jumps in, everyone's a winner.
