Throwback Thursday: Kranked 5 Turns 20
I was riding a 2003 Giant AC. At some point I swapped the Z1 fork to a Super T which helped the 69.5 deg stock HTA a little.

Poll: Once and For All, How Much Should a Mountain Bike Weigh?
I agree that a "good" weight is not universal. Bike weight as a percentage of rider weight seems like a more useful metric. A 33 pound bike for a 200 pound rider is a better weight ratio than a 30 pound bike for a 150 pound rider.

Poll: Does Your Trail Bike Have a Weight Problem?
My AL Patrol is 18% of my body weight, and I think that's a decent compromise between durability and performance. To get the same mass ratio a 140 lb (63.5kg) rider would need a 25 lb (11.5kg) bike and a 60 lb (27kg) kid would need a 11 lb (4.9kg) bike.

I second the armor bit... I had a nasty crash last summer and my armor saved my elbow from reconstructive surgery. Still got a hairline fracture, but the doctor didn't even need to set it. To me, armor is cheap insurance... and an easy way to avoid having to stay home with injuries. Of course, it doesn't make you invincible - armor didn't stop me from being out for a few months recovering from a broken wrist and a separated shoulder.

Finally hitting all 4 on the right side of FMX now. Only took me 2 years and 500,000 meaningless comments...Yep.
