So stoked for Bruni to finally take a win after all his close finishes all season. Good Job Loic!!
  • 12 1
i felt the tears coming when the camera was on Bruni after Gwin crashed... So happy for the man
  • 10 2
^ I don't know about you but at first I was worried about Gwin... and then I was stoked, haha. That was an incredible finish to an awesome season. I love how Bruni appeared to be in shock and couldn't really give an interview and then after, taking a swig from that liquor bottle haha. Congrats to him, that must have been the coolest feeling.

Loved seeing Ratboy genuinely stoked for Bruni as he let him know he'd won after seeing the crash. Overall it was a great display of sportmanship on the podium with riders seeming genuinely stoked for him. Overall there didn't seem to be a lot of sour expressions from the riders that didn't win...nice to see. That win had been a long time coming. Bruni is so fast and seems so calm on the bike.

Loic to Norco Bicycles or Sam Blenkinsop back to Lapierre???? Can you update us Pinkbike? Check Loic Bruni's post on his facebook.
  • 19 0
well now, that's interesting... let the 2016 race rumors begin!
  • 24 1
dont think Lapierre will let Bruni go.....
  • 18 0
Bruni is supposedly staying with Lapierre. Blenki is just joining the team again.
  • 7 5
I would not be surprised that Norco simply does not have enough money (or they simply don't gain anything) to run WC Team...
  • 14 0
I really hope blenki returning to lapierre is true. Him and bruni were the best team mates on the circuit and it would be so sick to see them shredding together again
  • 12 2
@kusa you obviously don't know how big Norco is.
  • 3 1
Man that Lapierre is really dialed or Loic and Vergier is super smooth , it could be both .... The bike loks to soak up everything
  • 5 0
 @WayneParsons how big is Norco?
  • 8 1
 @ Narro2
As big as a House ?
  • 4 0
 As big as 2 houses?
  • 8 1
as big as your mama..... j/k

Narco has a huge distribution warehouse, two actually, and have a lot of brands, a lot of dealers, and a lot of bikes.
  • 4 1
 you fuc$#@er!!!, haha, good response

just googled it, it is $16M annual revenue, I am just curious how big a company needs to be to be able to sponsor descent riders. Commencal let the Anthertons go to GT when they were at the height of their powers, Commencal definitely didn't have the money to keep'em.
Cycling Industry is not as big as some people think, Trek and Spech together barely make a Billion Dollars.
The maquila plant across the street from my house makes $1.3B in revenue, that's just one plant.
  • 1 0
I had to Google "Maquila", what does your one assemble ?
  • 2 1
 automotive transfer cases
  • 1 0
@nutelladonut Blenki is returning to Lapierre! Gonna be so sick watching the two of them ride together again next season!
  • 3 0
WayneParsons, you wrote "Narco" like drug dealer in spanish, kind of funny haha
  • 21 1
As much as I wanted to see Gwin take World Cups & Champs I don't think anyone deserved this one more than Bruni. He's put the hard work in and for him to nail down his first win and for it to be at Champs is just awesome!

While everyone else was enjoying yet another great weekend of their favorite sport, some other Portuguese riders were denied participation by their own federation for no reason at all (this including female national champion Filipa Peres and vice-champion Margarida Bandeira). Will PB support them and help expose the shameful behavior of federation officials, seeking answers from them/UCI, or will it gloss over it and report only on "positive", self-rewarding aspects of the sport/industry?

I'm in no way related to anyone involved, including the federation (other than eventually financing those shameful crooks with my biking insurance), but I'd really like to know what the PB "community" and PB itself has to say about this, if anything...

Cheers.

P.S.: shout-outs to @dpombo (Daniel Pombo, aka "the fastest mechanic on the world cup") for sharing this on his fb: www.facebook.com/pages/DPX-Racing/181157631966537

kinda weird baiting everyone with an insult like that....but OK....I'll bite.

The situation you're describing sucks. I didn't know how this works, but each national association is required to pick entrants according to a quota - there are deadlines, and fines imposed on riders and associations who don't show up, if registered. Maybe someone from the association screwed up and missed the August registration deadline? Or they could only take 3 riders because they're an unranked nation? I dunno...the association's website is in Portuguese, but the UCI entrants regs below are very clear:

www.uci.ch/mm/Document/News/NewsGeneral/17/05/86/CompetitionGuideMTBXCODHI-Vallnord2015-ENG_English.pdf

Anyway. 5 minute googling aside...what do you want PB to do about it...how can we support them? Or was goading someone like me into a reply your only goal here?!

 WTF?

You know what?... f*ck off, dude! If you don't care enough to even try to have an actual clue before commenting - something you should be more than capable to do on your own since you're pretentious enough to try to "lecture" others on googling... - just do us all a favour: shut the f*ck up and just ignore it.

Otherwise, you could've started by my own posts right here on PB...

Has I said, I have no beef in this, other than (unlike many, here?), as anyone else having spent time and money competing on a committed way in any sport at any time in your life, making it the centre of your life for the while, I know how frustrating and unfair this must feel for them (make it insulting, actually, and not just for them) and though this might be of any interest for others alike - that's all. But hey...

Cheers.
  • 3 1
 jesus...OK?

stellar effort in gathering support by flaming the one person who bothered to reply. nice work!

18 props so far though dude - really taking it to the federation - well done you. enjoy your congratulatory fap.
  • 2 2
Whatever, dude... the tone of your replies *really* is appropriate and definitely doesn't warrant you being flamed...

Btw, did you "googled" it yourself, already? And "fap" off yourself, will you...

Just saw a great video on bruni's Facebook with villiuoz and barel watching his run and celebrating his win.

That's the spirit, the same on the podium, you can see how Ratboy and Greg are beaming when they knew Loïc had won, another reason to love this sport!!
  • 6 0
Thank you Emil, great video with no bike in it and that make you feel like riding more than ever. Obviously Loic is a great kid since everybody loves him, having two world champions of that caliber celebraiting like that is not something you see very often. Bravo Loic !!!

Two worldchamps on AL- Frames... Carbon alone doesn´t make faster :-D
  • 3 2
 and no plus sized tires!
  • 3 2
Carbon vs Alu is in the eye of the beholder. Thinking that carbon is superior over aluminium in case of a DH bike, perhaps even Enduro bike is an act of faith, not something based on scientific method. There cannot be any proof of such kind, some nerds should deal with it. If someone feels better for owning a bike made of specific material - fine, but it is entirely subjective and taking factors apart and trying to prove that it explodes or undoubtedly helps you to get from point A to B on MTB in mountaineous terrain in gravity fed discipline, because less mass takes less energy to move is insane.
  • 1 0
I think carbon was faster in downhill when components were heavier such as coil forks, heavy wheels etc but now these components are that much lighter we don't need such a light frame. I don't believe there is an optimum weight for a downhill bike but I do think a downhill bike can be too light. Then it is far cheaper to produce an aluminium frame and far easier to change the numbers slightly to suit riders preferences and changes in track meaning the rider can be 100% happy they have the right head angle, chainstay length etc without spending a fortune on a new cast for a carbon frame.
  • 1 0
Yea @mjp-Photography, I think that was exactly the issue. But it was a case of interconnected evolution of both materials. Around 2008 before era of slack DH bikes, Fox40, Boxxer35, rear shocks like DH4, those bikes were hard to take under 15kgs, average weight for a frame with the shock was 4,5kg like V10.2. Pre 2005 frame like Kona Stab was comfortably over 5kgs! Now, first long travel carbon frames were nearly as heavy as aluminium counter parts, GT Fury carbon was almost 4kgs with the shock. First V10.c wasn't lightest either but they were indeed super sturdy and defo stronger than alu. Around 2010 (too lazy to check) The revised Glory and Session broke the bank with frames getting well under 4kg with shock. Sure they were cracking occasionally but in this market of bikes ridden this hard nobody could complain, everything was cracking from time to time. But nevertheless lowering weight of alu put pressure on carbon, more expensive by almost 1000$ by average. So... they made carbon lighter to make it marketable and they crossed the threshold, because everyone knows that carbon can withstand harder hits than alu but only if it is thick enough. So even though carbon frame at 2kgs is still stronger and stiffer than 4kg alu counterpart in raw terms, it just fails to withstand hits. In result you get a situation where both materials may be slightly to weak for the purpose but aluminium is simply cheaper to replace, while weights are comparable.

My brain was with Bruni, but my heart still wants the Legend Minnaar to win. Nobody deserves that win more than Loic.

I want some footage of gwins crash!! In the live feed you could see trees moving...it must have been huge! apparently nobody got it on camera ahaha
  • 2 0
I was few meters down where he crashed. I couldn't see the crash, but the crowd was shouting and silenced in a second, then I could see a lot of dust....certainly it must have been a huge crash.
  • 2 0
from POV videos where he crashed its a long wooden bridge to a step down, this is coming from an awkward turn I guess he slipped on the bridge and went to the hill on the right side (where you see his bike land) his bike landed far away so thats where he lost almost a minute well at least thats what i think happen.

Happy for Bruni but really disapointed for Gwin. It is the only title missing for him. I hope he will finally get it someday.
  • 1 0
Is this available anywhere? I missed it due to work and still can't find anything online other than some POVs and highlights Frown

What a season... again. Every year there is something special about DH racing.

Its like a comment I read a while ago. There is no country / team preference in this sport. We seem to like every racer for their own different character.

Not like football, rugby or whatever where you have YOUR TEAM. In this sport we like them all.
  • 3 0
Very True.... Well Done to all the riders.
  • 2 0
@llarrggee, I concur and I guess a lot of pinkbike readers do too.
  • 4 1
 Congratulations Loic!
  • 3 2
Can anyone confirm that Bruni is French for "Cinderella"? What a fairy tale ending to the season.
  • 5 0
The direct translation of Bruni in French to English is tanned or brown...
