Go pro Wins. Video and sound.

contour only had better colour out in the brightness, but it was much better than the go pro out in the open. thats the only thing the contour is better for

better color are you kidding me? it was changing colors non stop while the go pro remained the same.

if by better color you meant that its darker, and cant adjust to changing light, then sure... when i wanted to be confused i looked at the left side... When i wanted to see what was going on on the trail, i would look at the right side....
i had to turn the sound off when it switched to contours sound....
im glad i got my gopro..

i think the gopro colour was consistent through all the light conditions but the countour was better in the open and went almost black in the woods, which is crap for where i live cause it is mostly woods. also the gopro has better sound cause it has the plastic cover so less wind is picked up. i think overall the gopro is better but the contours colour is a lot nicer in the open sections

When the light is the same eg. out in the open (desert etc) The contour is much better, but if your somewhere like this with changing light conditions the GoPro is the winner. I think this is starting to become the generally accepted view. I prefer the wider angle lens of the GoPro myself though

Remember that the Contour is on the sunny side of the helmet, so more light is getting into the sensor, and it compensates better for what is in the distance etc. but this will hinder it when it hits the shade as the change in light is larger on the Contour. Not a fair test of the sensor for its re-activeness to changes in lux IMO as a design engineer.

I think its a pretty fair test, the trail does turn several times so that the light source is on both sides. light issues aside i think it shows the difference in perspective and the way that the go pro seems to have more vertical vision allowing it to capture both the handlebars and the horizon. kind of the best test we could do at the time the contour wasn't nearly as far behind as i thought it would be.

if you idiots didnt realze is that he only had the 720p contour... the go pro was 1080 and by the looks of it the contour was on low britness settin... you can change all the setting with the contour

superfly you just kind of said go pro was better by saying its a 1080 while the contour is 720. and the go pro adapts the light changes but the countour does not adjust quick enough and goes very dark when it switches from bright light to forest. and if it was in :low brightness" then why is it doing better in bright light?

if you record the go pro in 720p at 60fps it usually comes out with a better image than if you shoot at 1080p

If you live in a forested area go pro is better but if you live in like utah or arizona where its bright and wide open no shad I would say contour

go pro is better all around man, better quality video and sound all the way. and its tough as shit to boot. can get lots of mounts and fully waterproof. the contour is just a camera, nothing special about it.

An unheard of brand that no one talks about is Tachyon, we have one to, its already waterproof to 100 indistructable and in hd, I pick that one out of both of these

I think that colours in the Contour are a little better than the GoPro's.
Having said that the GoPro is a lot more stable, has a wider angle and comes with more accessories. Also I do not think that Pinkbike video supports the full HD video format so it might look better for both cameras in Vimeo or YoutubeHD.
(I just bought a GoPro HD)

There are plenty comparison videos like this, and some of them GoPro takes the trophy and others the ContourHD takes the trophy.
This guy in this video made the infamous mistake of removing the laser warning sticker, which covers the microphone from wind noise, which is unbearably loud as you can tell.
Once you take off that laser sticker, not even electrical tape will return the sound. A lot of guys plug their microphone with silicone. It seems to have the same audio as a GoPro once you do that.
Now, bear in mind, the GoPro is in a plastic case. The ContourHD is not. You can purchase a plastic case for the ContourHD (which I have done). With the camera in this case, the audio is almost exactly the same as the GoPro, even with an unplugged and de-stickered microphone.
See, the thing a lot of people don't realize is that once you even out all the variables, these cameras are very similar. GoPro versus Contour is basically the sportsman's version of the gamer's fight between the Xbox and the Playstation.
But, the Contour cameras have lasers and rotating lenses. That's an automatic win right there.
I've yet to see one comparison test video where the Contour is in a case, and both cameras have matching software settings on the most recent firmware, and no attached hardware.

im goin with the contour beacuse the adio has more bass and less chain sound and it looks more realistic and has more color but it was close
