no more spending a fortune on derailleur hangers..
it looks so sick compared to all the other gearbox bikes
with the exception of honda

id of thaught anyone who can make there own gear box would have a good taste in music!dono about this being vod but whatever its prety sweet

nice work putting the effort into building this, but it's amateur in comparison to the "millyard racing" bike.

i bet ya the derailleur is gonna be a bitch to take out if u have to, but watever it seems to be wrkin...

i cant believe what some people comment on, like saying its shit or rubish. just the fact that some one even has a go at creating a bike is fantastic ugly or not. i think some of these people should spend more time on their bike than on the internet commenting in a crap and uninspiring way.....
get on a bike and ride

all they did was move where the derraileur and cassette while cleaver not really a gear box gear...gear boxes more work like a transmission thats why they are diff than a derraileur so im not impressed defiantly not VOD material

for all those that run gears and said it wasnt that great, tbh you want to buy a gearbox bike if you could afford it, this guy went out and did his homework, and now hes one very happy owner of a bike of his own work!
i say props to the dude and lets hope we get more innovative people out there! i like the frame tbh, but i dont like the forks thats all i have to complain about

Nice idea but it's not a gearbox now, is it? It's just a standard derailleur and cassete mounted in the frame. Not exactly ground-braking technology but not a bad idea.

Spoko rower z dobrym systemem. Ej ludzie z Polski, mówcie po Polsku !! Umiem nawijać po angielsku i to bardzo dobrze, ale to niech zagraniczni uczą się polskiego. Patriota.

all it really is is a cassette and derailure inside of the frame.
I personally would ride this. Heavier to ride this "gear box" instead of a derailure, Harder to fix than a derailure because the derailure is open, More suspension options instead of having to run a single pivot.
And in regards to TYPX post. My friend lem has built a 7inch freeride fully from scratch and now hes building a dj/street ht, Im not saying what this kid made isnt impressive but theres no point to the gearbox and you gain no efficiancy, which is the point of a gear box.

yeah, he probably couldn't put it into production though, since honda would have a patent. but in a few years from now i bet companies will be all over that design.

I don't think you can because it's still using that derailler concept. So while you're trying to shift to another gear, the chain is still going to be on the same gear and that until you start pedaling. So it doesn'e have the advantages of a conventional gearbox where you can just shift gear without pedaling and you still have to run maintenance on it because it's using a derailler to shift.
This said, it still have the other gearbox advantages, like you don't need worry about the derailler hitting a rock or something else and just snap off. The use of the chainguide or chain tensioner is pretty useless as the chain with always remained tensioned.

How is that a 'gearbox' bike?? Its just the same as a conventional gear system turned upside down and at the other end? And its not even in a box. Looks awful aswel.

the main advantage is that you can change gear mid corner, halfway through some rough stuff or whilst in the air, you dont have to be pedalling to make the shift.

I'm not an enineer, but as I understand it, the chain line also reduces or eliminates any drivetrain induced stiffening of the suspension. With the drive gear located at a point where the arc of the rear hub means no change in relative distance, there is no need for a chain tensioner either. Personally, I think I'd want some sort of cover over that constantly spinning buzz-saw... hate to have my right calf brush up against it at speed...

The transmission drives a chain which drives a sprocket on the pivot axle. Then, another sprocket on the pivot axle drives the rear hub.
The distance between the rear hub and pivot of a single pivot does not change so there is no chain stretch.
Personally I think bikes like this are the future of MTB, I really hope that the idea of putting a derailer and cassette on the frame of the bike does not get patented. A high center single pivot with such a drive system gets rid of two of the main problems with high center single pivot (extreme chain growth and pedal bob) while maintaining the simplicity and good axle path of a high pivot bike.
