So that is me. I just for whatever reason got a little freaked out, forgot everything I knew about riding bikes, and then promptly ate sh*t. It happened towards the end of the day and I was feeling pretty worn out. A lesson in quiting before you make silly painful mistakes. It happened back in july of last year. It cost me a trip to urgent care for a check up, a cap for a tooth I cracked, and a helmet. Im very greatful it didnt paralyze me or do more damage. Enjoy the video...

I totally understand. Did the exact same thing at the end of a session a couple weeks ago and broke my neck! Up and moving around now though.

I had a very similar crash a couple of years ago. I was on the last lap of a great day of biking, decided to hit a small drop, but didn't pop my front tire on time, resulting on going over-the-bars, flying through the air and spearheading the ground head first.
I also had a trip to the hospital, cracked tooth and needed a new helmet, but nothing worse. If my crash were caught on camera, I'm sure it would show up as FotM.

right never drop without pulling. only if you go fast enough you shoudnt. and even then even you probably want to pull a little. once i saw a kid landing on his head on concrete... bleeding on his head screaming for his mother... doing exactly saeme thing...

It's not really about "pulling up", the technique is more about "pushing out". Had you "pulled up" going that slow you just would have cartwheeled from even further up. You can see in the video your body position didn't change throughout the sequence, you gotta get a little more dynamic. I'd recommend you check out the old Dirt video "Fundamentals" it's a great reference for all kinds of skills and techniques. Even better, get some coaching from Lee McCormack, Gene Hamilton, or any number of highly-regarded instructors. Definitely worthwhile! Cheers, glad you survived!

keep it up, nobody was born an expert! as NoahColorado said is about pushing out. The problem here is that you sat on your rear wheel, try practicing somewhere more forgiving, if you f*ck up you wont go otb. maybe the sidewalk or whatever, once you get confidence and get used to the feeling (it will come natural eventually) start going with bigger drops

yea right pushing outpullin up wtf do you mean with that... dont really know it either. because when you go really slow it is indeed getting more complicated. its indeed important to know the right technique and thatwats about. otherwise you cant do it. i would say just drop and make sure you get your bars airborne as soon as your hitting it.

I fell exactly the same way a few weeks ago. I went rolling in too slow as well, and I also didn't pull on my handlebars. The kicker is that I didn't fall just once but twice if you can't believe it (I fell, then my brother drop it just fine, and I stupidly felt compelled to try again). My elbows and biceps hurt a little still, two weeks later, wonder if I should go to the doc.

I would agree pulling up isn't really the answer. I have ridden that trail and I don't ever recall needing to pull up. Just some a little speed and letting it naturally send you out. Hope the damage wasn't too bad to you and your bike.

i woudnt know for sure. i have quite experience i sending drops... i once dropped over 22ft with a run in from 10 ft 2 ft wide. also once 7 ft run in 12 ft drop. going to slow jumping of the bike.. was getting close to my rear wheel./ then last try i jumped of again but i didnt jump far enough and got my rear wheel in my nuts. my nuts protector had a hole in it.

Did the dude brake check or something at the end? How is this possible? That's like a foot gap, just roll it.
- + 2
No i dont think he brake checked - He just got so far and low behind the saddle he touched his back wheel (you can see this in the slomo) - same result as a brake check

Please get some clinics with www.leelikesbikes.com/skills-clinics-with-lee/public-clinics-at-valmont-bike-park if you want to keep on mountainbiking safely.

Oh my.... First learn how to ride on sidewalk, and then take it off road. Good thing you had all that fancy gear on.
