This guy is sick, I love huge mountain riding and Doerfling does it sooo well!!! Love the looseness on the berms, the massive/insane drops, and the peeling of the bead off the rim!!! Yesterday I happened to land a whip at 90 degrees and my bead as well came off a bit, let out some air and pushed it back in no problem...Thought I bent my wheel at first, funny that it just happened yesterday for the first time while I'm sure Doerfling does it multiple times daily haha

Protective gear is just like strapping on weights when you're skilled. It slows down your movements and fatigues you sooner. I don't think it'll help him too much if he happens to go down, but what do I know? I figure he needs his agility maxed, his muscles fresh, and rely on his confidence, rather than having the risk, of what happens if he goes down, on his mind. I don't know how much he's worked to get to this point, but I doubt he's doing this stuff to figure out what he can do; I think he's doing because he knows he can do it and a crew gives a bit of support and motivation to actually go out and do it.

Protective gear is a personal choice, though many pros use it selectively. Notice how he uses a neck brace sometimes, and most pros run knee/shin guards. I always wonder if they use more gear guinea pigging stuff off camera.
