I think most of the european pro rider are more likeable as the american fulltime pros. Pilgrim and all the other travel to every event around the planet during semenuk, zink and so on are only on the gold an diamond events. In my opinion thats not right. They should come up all over the planet to give their fans a show who pay their life by buying energy drinks and bikes... Just sayin
(Mar 28, 2013 at 7:17)
(Mar 28, 2013 at 7:26)
Except pilgrim lives in the uk there are way more small compitions over there then northamerica it costs him a lot less to travel to the comps
(Mar 28, 2013 at 8:13)
Have you even seen the price of fuel in the UK??
(Mar 28, 2013 at 8:34)
I'm sure Semenuk is earning enough from his Trek deal compared to Pilgrim riding for NS to afford it....
(Mar 28, 2013 at 8:42)
Its because they cant afford to travel overseas to go to all these events, and its not just Zink and Semenuk if you look there is no Strait, Messere, Montgomery, Berrecloth, Rheeder, Fogelquist, Genovese, Groves, ect. It is basically all the North American riders. And the UK is like the size of one state or province so don't say its costing him so much to go to these contest because for the north american riders it costs so much that even if they win first they might be losing money on the trip.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 9:31)
ManuGi- that was the most ignorant post I've read on here in a long time. There's too many reasons to list off as to why but to start, basing how "likable" an athlete is by which events they go to is straight up stupid... just saying.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 9:49)
@zoomzoomchicken- So thats a no! You haven't seen the price of fuel in the UK.
I nearly wet myself laughing with your logic that because the UK is smaller it costs us less to travel. Brilliant.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 10:00)
@dusty-bones not sure that its cheaper to get to NZ from the UK than the states or Canada!
It probably costs us more to get to the airport and park than it does for a flight from LA to NZ!
(Mar 28, 2013 at 10:12)
"Have you even seen the price of fuel in the UK??"
I know, takes massive commitment to drive from the UK to New Zealand, lucky he won, his fuel bill must have been crazy. [end of sarcasm]
(Mar 28, 2013 at 11:44)
Those flights all cost about the same from here. Any one of them is not significantly cheaper than the others.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 12:28)
no disrespect to all you guys in North America, but saying that it is cheaper to fly to friggin NEW ZEALAND from Europe, than from the states, is not a valid argument.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 13:16)
Also to point out like one event in the UK is on the FMB tour and even then It was like a bronze so UK riders still have to travel abroad to go to pretty much any event. Also this event was in NZ which is literally as far from the UK as you can get whilst still being on the same planet. Also for people chatting about fuel costs: UK petrol is about £1.40 per litre, thats about 10 dollars per gallon. US is about 4 dollars. Just saying.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 14:10)
Two Canadians, Sam Dueck and Kurt Sorge were there.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 14:37)
Sam is probably just trying to get away from the horrible UK weather haha why fly around all the time if you live in BC or Cali
(Mar 28, 2013 at 15:16)
That is a fair point nismo, I know where I'd rather be this time of the year out of the UK and NZ...
(Mar 28, 2013 at 15:22)
@ ManuGi I think your full of shit. Zink and Semenuk should be able to spend there ("off season" a time line in which they do not have a contract binding obligation to there sponsors to full fill a contest schedule.) to do what ever the f*ck they would like! You know like ride for fun, where ever, when ever. ... Just saying
(Mar 28, 2013 at 16:09)
@mtbken There was at least 3 Canadians there, Sid Slotegraaf as well. He is the one doing the double backflip in the above video.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 16:21)
you try traveling all year round and see how long you last. It is seriously tiring, these guys are people too they want vacation time. Especially with all the videos they are involved in and product development. I bet if you were in their situation you would do the same thing.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 17:41)
For an American to come to one of those contest's you are looking around $3,000 a pop. There are a lot more small contest's in Europe and they actually pay out better. Its just much easier for people like Sam to get "everywhere". Not to mention that Teva paid for all the athletes to come out for this contest. That is why a few there was a few more bigger names for the size of contest it was.. (Why not go if its free?) haha And after years of traveling all year round, I'm sure I would only hit the big ones up also if I had too..
(Mar 28, 2013 at 19:31)
Sid "the kid" Slotegraf was there from Ontario and stomped a double backflip in best trick.A dh racer who trains at Joyride150 with Brett Rheeder and the rest of the Ontario crew.PROPS!
(Mar 28, 2013 at 21:00)
thank you @scott-townes . couldnt agree more. its not like these guys make as much as football players and quite honestly the north american riders are the most famous so they also have many small promotional events to go to. ignoraant
(Mar 28, 2013 at 23:10)
Who was talking about driving to NZ from the UK? No one here!
(Mar 28, 2013 at 23:52)
Are we going to see Chad Kagy in the FMB. That flair whip was awesome and I've loved him at the xgames big air comps the last few years. I wanna see more BMX guys try to do MTB. With bmx getting so competitive and MTB getting more money in the future it could be a trend.
(Mar 29, 2013 at 2:07)
and you think its got nothing to do with one of sams big sponsers being teva haha
(Mar 29, 2013 at 5:44)
Riders don't pay their flights to contest... their sponsors do...thats what sponsoring is about and not getting free red bull like some people think.
(Mar 29, 2013 at 6:51)
Manu- They get a travel budget so even though they technically don't pay for their own trips, that doesn't mean they can go to whatever and how many contests they want. The very top guys may be different but it's still not an unlimited fund for anyone.
(Mar 29, 2013 at 10:47)
The trek team was in New Zealand in February, I'm sure they would have loved to be at the comp, timing just didn't line up!
(Mar 29, 2013 at 17:48)
dusty bones, i dont really think that fuel costs and shit matter to zinc and semenuk...
(Mar 30, 2013 at 17:15)
It is strategy that Semenuk only goes to big events that earn the most points, doesn't ride the petty comps and risk injury. I feel the judging is also weighted in his favor at the big shows, not really fair. Love to see Sammy putting in his kicks and giving us the show we all love to see. He deserves better scores than he gets (Claymore). PROPS
(Mar 30, 2013 at 18:14)
Pilgrim and Surge are TEVA sponsored athletes. i guess they should attend a TEVA slopestyle event right?
(Mar 31, 2013 at 3:05)
He's got Trek, Maxxis, Sram(which is like 5 big companies all together) and red bull. Yeah there's enough earnings to travel to the European events!
(Mar 31, 2013 at 5:42)
Why do you guys care if they have enough money to travel to relatively lower-placed FMB events around Europe? They're professional athletes, not clowns that have to attend and entertain the fans that are at each event. Sure fans are important but the guys risking their necks are more important so fanboys, kindly screw off with this judging someone based on how many events they go to... or speculating whether they can or can't. To be honest it's a really silly conversation to be having in the first place.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 2:32)
Get in Sam... With Dan winning the Enduro this has been a good few days for the Brits... Well done boys!
(Mar 28, 2013 at 5:22)
Cycling- the one sport we didn't invent... and its the one sport we're killing it in.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 6:26)
The brits normally think they invented the whole world
(Mar 28, 2013 at 6:36)
(Mar 28, 2013 at 6:41)
@T1mb0: I wouldnt say you guys are "killing" it. I think you are best at DH and maybe road riding but even there not so shure...
(Mar 28, 2013 at 6:48)
(Mar 28, 2013 at 6:59)
voltagerider: Are you mad? Did you not see the olympics are our dominance on the track?
(Mar 28, 2013 at 7:16)
(Mar 28, 2013 at 7:36)
Please UK, don't try to replace usa. one in enough ! :p
(Mar 28, 2013 at 7:51)
Don't forget about Cedric winning an enduro as well! He may not be a brit but it's friggen cedric, it deserves a mention.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 8:07)
^Cedric always deserves a mention wether he has one something or not.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 10:36)
But dan won the british enduro series, isnt a brit kinda garenteed to win that?
(Mar 28, 2013 at 10:38)
Then I have to say that the spaniards are killing it in all the other sports that, like the world, the brits did invented: football, basket, tennis, motogp, wrc, F1.... I don't say that because I'm from Spain, is a fact.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 11:45)
Is Vettel Spanish??
(Mar 28, 2013 at 14:46)
Poms!! Phffff. Just because youve won a couple of cycling events doesnt mean youre killing it! However, on a brighter note - Sam Pilgrim is Da MAN!!!!.....hes so awesome.... are you sure hes not a kiwi? Brits arent that good surely
(Mar 28, 2013 at 14:48)
I'm pretty sure vettel is German, and I think @pichy means Fernando alonso...
(Mar 28, 2013 at 18:06)
I mean Sam won 'cause he is so techy, stylish, tough....not for being Brit. If Soderstrom were sponsored by Teva, he will eat two Pilgs with fries for lunch in this event,
(Mar 28, 2013 at 18:51)
Well may be you are right but British use the gold that Sir Francis Drake stole from the Spanish colonies in America...and that gold were stolen before by the Spanish from the native Americans...(end of history class)
(Mar 29, 2013 at 3:21)
MacAskill and Akrigg are British... that trumps everything
(Mar 29, 2013 at 10:50)
@ Pichy Uh hi a Canadian invented basketball James Naismith was his name.
The sun never set on the British empire for a long time that makes a lot of extra time for inventing!
(Mar 30, 2013 at 12:43)
Pichy-spain are killing it at football only mate n footballs gay
(Mar 30, 2013 at 12:44)
oh wait no ill give you motogp but pedroser and lorenzo arnt fit to clean the mud of valentino rossi's boots when he was in his prime
(Mar 28, 2013 at 2:48)
I'm just stoked Kagy didn't win this one- can't have a BMXer coming along and schooling us on our own sport!!! Go Pilgs.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 2:52)
Kagy is a badass I would like him to win.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 5:35)
Hating on a guy because he rides a different size bike than you? I say props to Kagy for excelling in more than one medium.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 6:22)
Hating on him??! Really?? I was having a laugh. Geez, get a sense of humour!
(Mar 28, 2013 at 6:25)
mtb = big boy bmx
(Mar 28, 2013 at 12:24)
suspension and wheel size change the riding characteristics enough to make it a different sport, IMO.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 16:29)
good on kagy for seeing the light
(Mar 30, 2013 at 10:31)
Yep...I say good on Kagy! Nothing wrong with tryin on a different shoe hey?
He's just makin the sport more kick ass as it already was.
How does that saying go.....oh ya. "The more the merrier"
(Mar 28, 2013 at 3:20)
Ya dueck good job.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 6:01)
Nice to see Zejda on second place.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 2:36)
UK Brigade win again!
(Mar 28, 2013 at 8:43)
maybe because the contest was in the UK...
(Mar 28, 2013 at 8:46)
Errrr no- NZ stands for New Zealand Dumbass.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 9:04)
What does having a comp in the Uk have to do with who wins? Semenuk doesn't always win at Crankworks and thats his hometown..
(Mar 28, 2013 at 9:39)
No but he always comes out on top Fmb tour winner 2 years in a row while still only going to half that pilgrim goes to
(Mar 28, 2013 at 9:54)
Really? Are we having the Semenuk Vs Pilgrim debate?? IMO Pilgs is more of a DJer than a slopestyle rider, and thankfully for Semenuk most FMB points have been awarded at the events he excels at. They're both AMAZING riders- I'm just hoping for an injury free season for them both and a great FMB tour. There's so many riders that have crazy skills... this year is gonna be good.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 12:28)
I am never surprised by the retardedness of Americans when it comes to geography
(Mar 28, 2013 at 12:44)
Because the Redbull judges are remarkably biast towards their riders
(Mar 28, 2013 at 19:12)
Remember, there's 2 kinds of people: US... and the other, lesser countries that wish they were us. Where they are isn't important, as long they don't piss us off. 'MURICA!
(Mar 30, 2013 at 12:47)
Zoomzoomchicken-i am in awe of your geographical retardation, Groghunter i dont want to be american at all i meen no just no, no...
(Mar 31, 2013 at 8:39)
hahaha, it's called SARCASM. Remember: all the people in the US who aren't the stereotypical idiot, loud american, have to live with the entire rest of the world thinking we're that guy. You just have to read their comments on the internet, I have to live and work with the idiots.
(Mar 31, 2013 at 12:16)
Apart from your trails, no one wants to be america, your sincerely, UK.
(Mar 31, 2013 at 14:05)
Hahaha, good job at reading my post. Or, y'know, not at all. But I don't know what I should expect, after what I thought was obviously a joke got downvoted to oblivion.
(Apr 1, 2013 at 8:41)
groghunter-ah i see i forget there are people in america who actually know other countrys dont want to be them
(Apr 2, 2013 at 22:07)
no problem, I wasn't even gonna respond, just kinda chuckled about it.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 5:18)
Waits for the 'He only won because Semenuk was not there' comments
(Mar 28, 2013 at 12:53)
I will say it.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 7:56)
Yeah sammy dueck rep dat chillwack shit!
(Mar 29, 2013 at 18:52)
(Mar 28, 2013 at 15:18)
and [pichy] we did invented the whole world the first mechanically propelled 2-wheel vehicle was believed to have been built by Kirkpatrick MacMillan, a Scottish blacksmith, in 1839. A nephew later claimed that his uncle developed a rear-wheel drive design using mid mounted treadles connected by rods to a rear crank, similar to the transmission of a steam locomotive. Proponents associate him with the first recorded instance of a bicycling traffic offence, when a Glasgow newspaper reported in 1842 an accident in which an anonymous "gentleman from Dumfries-shire... bestride a velocipede... of ingenious design" knocked over a pedestrian in the Gorbals and was fined five British shillings
(Mar 29, 2013 at 22:17)
There should be more big mtb events in NZ, thats worth it for all the big names to show. There is so much support over there for biking and awesome trails. NZ should also hold a world cup round there every year like Mount Saint-Anne or Forte Williams. I'll be there in 9 days can't wait. NZ rocks.
(Mar 29, 2013 at 0:47)
At all the Americans who think we (uk) have loads of comps for pilgrim to win....Erm name me a UK based slopestyle comp where pilgr or any euro rider can make large money from a win.there aren't any that's why he has to travel to these worldwide events.we have lots of small dj comps where you win a handlebar and 50 quid if your lucky.the reason American riders don't leave America is you have huge events with huge money prizes, they don't need to travel to Aussie for a few dollars, plus a holiday for an American is going to a different state.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 10:46)
Did the guy who went for the double frontflip stand up again? Is he alive???
(Mar 28, 2013 at 15:32)
Jackson Crowe is bruised but all is well
he is an aussie out of melbourne riding on a dartmoor cody.
(Apr 8, 2013 at 6:40)
(Mar 29, 2013 at 6:59)
Sam is a great dirt jumper, but Jesus, it sounds like a lot of you British blokes just can't accept a win when he gets one. Watch Semenuk ride downhill or big mountain, he's by far the superior all around rider. Until Sam proves he can ride big mountain terrain with people like Sorge, Strait, Semenuk, Mccaul, he's still just an insanely talented dirt jumper in my eyes. He obviously has the skillset to become a big mountain rider, but it seems like he'd rather ride his hard tail dirt jumper and stay in an RV than head into the middle of nowhere up a 3000 meter mountain in a tent. C'mon Sam, we wanna see you ride Green River or the Frasier River Valley!
(Mar 31, 2013 at 3:21)
Maybe Sam prefers riding Jumps than Big Mountain? It's his decision to make, yeah there's only one place in the UK similar to big mountain(the Atherton's quarry or whatever it's called) and that still is different, maybe Sam doesn't feel like trekking out to Utah just for big mountain anyway?
(Apr 2, 2013 at 3:02)
Hold the phone, the only place to ride a big mountain in the UK is a quarry in Wales? Where the hell in Scotland do you live?
(Apr 2, 2013 at 4:28)
There may be a few spots here and there but their usually either shite, very short, or weather dependent, there may be some places, but their nothing compared to anything in Utah, with weather being a major factor, it's not as good as what you think it is here.
(Apr 5, 2013 at 2:39)
The grass is always greener...
(Mar 28, 2013 at 11:33)
This looks like such a good event. I wish the fmb tour came to the UK!
(Mar 28, 2013 at 15:15)
props to the dub frontflip attempt
(Mar 28, 2013 at 15:32)
he will nail it soon, kids a freak at frontie drop etc
(Mar 28, 2013 at 2:52)
I read on
that semenuk was riding in this event. But he wasn't even there whats with that?
(Mar 28, 2013 at 3:09)
He's busy fucking around with Zink behind bars.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 5:29)
I am so stoked for Conor! What a true athlete!
(Mar 28, 2013 at 16:37)
Conor = Boss
(Mar 28, 2013 at 2:34)
well done Sam! I didnt ask for more! thank you
(Mar 30, 2013 at 11:27)
no disrespect to Dueck's very clean 360 double whip, but kagy's mtb-first flair whip didn't get best trick??
(Mar 28, 2013 at 7:57)
Nice to see Leader (Tomas Zejda) on podium..Good job
(Mar 29, 2013 at 17:53)
who was the hero who tried a double front??
(Mar 29, 2013 at 1:20)
Can anyone tell me what bike Sorge was riding? Thanks.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 18:39)
"this video has bee removed by the user" ......
(Mar 29, 2013 at 7:03)
just looks like such a good time!!
(Mar 28, 2013 at 9:23)
Is really a 360 double tailwhip the best trick ?
(Mar 28, 2013 at 10:21)
No, a triple frontflip 360 barspin superman to double backflip 720 triple x-up pendulum air to corked 1080 bar hump E.t. is the best trick, but since noone did one then yes, a 360 double tailwhip was the best trick.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 12:08)
would need a fair big jump to nail that trick :O ^^^
(Mar 28, 2013 at 21:22)
I have once done thirty backflips in a row. Then I have opened my parachute. True story, by the way.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 6:07)
Go Sam pilgrim. u da man.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 2:34)
Go Sam! Stay with NS forever!
(Mar 28, 2013 at 9:49)
(Mar 29, 2013 at 4:50)
in first movie: Trees by The Oh Hello's
(Mar 28, 2013 at 8:25)
that looked like so much fun
(Mar 28, 2013 at 11:41)
Ya Sammy Dueck! great job. Fun video too
(Mar 28, 2013 at 11:47)
Did Benny Phillips compete?
(Mar 28, 2013 at 20:35)
Yea nice one duek
(Mar 28, 2013 at 6:15)
Good job to the Sam's.... Hope they both have a great season.
(Mar 29, 2013 at 3:35)
The ambient is so sick !
(Mar 28, 2013 at 3:08)
Is it like the early 90s again when the bmx guys could only make money by entering mtb contests?
(Mar 28, 2013 at 13:04)
is there a girl dooing a 360 drop and a backflip no hand??
(Mar 28, 2013 at 16:08)
that would be awesome ....but no it's Kelly McGary
Below threshold threads are hidden
(Mar 28, 2013 at 6:02)
Why was this not broadcast live? How is there not even a video!?! I am disgusted!! But glad a Brit won it
(Mar 28, 2013 at 7:04)
Video is up now. You no longer need to be disgusted.
(Mar 28, 2013 at 9:43)
'slopestyle' contests that arent even on a slope are hilarious. Flatstyle with jumps, Lame.
90% of the fmb events suck. 2 bit bmx contests
(Mar 30, 2013 at 13:17)
You just went full retard.
