With an onslaught of new product hitting the world on a monthly basis, Deity has been hard at work evolving their company to another level and showcasing what makes this rider owned, operated, and funded company so special. From the launch of a number of new products, construction of their new global Headquarters, the signing of the Gstaad/Scott Team, to much more, the Deity crew seem to be on a roll and do not look to be letting up anytime soon! With a focus on deepening their portfolio of handlebars, pedals, and stems, today marks the awaited debut of their two new compact stems, the Micro DM and the Cavity 35!

Gone are the days when a 50mm stem was the shortest option on the market. Frames are getting longer and riders are looking for options to shorten up their front ends. But what is this fascination with stems getting shorter and shorter?

bigquotesIt is no surprise to anyone reading this that modern geometry is consistently leaning more and more towards the aggressive side. Bikes are faster than ever before and top tubes are getting longer to create added stability at speed. To balance this from a rider positioning stance, the amount of weight placed through the front end, and tracks getting steeper, there needs to be more options for shorter cockpits. - Eric Davies (Deity, Owner)

The Micro DM joins the popular Locust DM stem and although the two may share some vague similarities, the Micro DM is a beast of its own. By hiding the front crown bolts, the Micro DM is able to maintain a wide 65mm stance that is essential to properly support the wide handlebars on the market and to also increase stiffness. With a 30mm length and a 10mm rise, the Micro DM was born from the feedback from riders like Cameron Zink and Tyler McCaul who were looking to shorten up their front ends without affecting the stability they needed at speed.

bigquotesTyler and Cam both spoke to us nearly 2 plus years ago about the idea for the Micro DM. At the time, there were a couple of short stems on the market, but we knew we could make something cleaner, stronger, and befitting of the Deity name. It has always been difficult for us because we never simply release a product after computer testing, machine testing, bike mock up, and maybe a week of riding the part. Real world testing is the corner stone of what we do. We put our product on the gnarliest guys in the world for a minimum of 1-2 years to punish the product. The key for us is to stick to our philosophies and never rush a part. My customers do not do our testing and you would be surprised how many companies do not share that mentality. - Eric Davies (Deity, Owner)

It was clear during the unveil of the new Deity Cavity 35mm length stem at Sea Otter that the latest addition to the growing Deity product line is eye catching, gleaming in a mirror high polish finish, with detail visible in every corner of the stem, and a clear indication that Deity continues to mature as a brand and as product designers. Creating depth in the Deity Cavity roster of stems, the Cavity 35 features a wide 55mm faceplate, a short 33mm stack height, and like the Micro DM…it is backed by a Lifetime Warranty.

Wide, sexy, and the stiffest Deity stem to date, the Cavity 35 is a stem that goes through so many machining passes that the final piece is a bit of jewelry cloaked in a high polished finish.

bigquotesEach stem is high polished by hand to create a mirror finish and we went all out on the machining of it. Without a doubt, it is my favorite stem we have designed to date and a good gauge of the direction and quality our brand has become. Attention to detail in every aspect of the company is our number one goal and we are pumped to finally be launching these stems. Having them stare at us for almost 2 years is torture, but nothing is more rewarding than putting a product you loved dearly out into the world and having it embraced. - Eric Davies (Deity, Owner)

As eyes continue to shift onto the growing Deity company, the crew take the support and attention with respect and are continually expanding their facilities, technology, roster of riders, support of regional events, and staying true to the core values that put them on the map. With rumours of Brendan Fairclough and Neko Mulally joining forces with Deity on a much larger level, it should not come as a surprise if you see some exciting Deity projects from this notorious pair in the coming future.

bigquotesWe have arguably the best team ever and investing into them, their knowledge, and their ability to communicate their experience on the bike is critical to the development of technology in this sport. I love riders who know what they want and the Cavity 35 and Micro DM are prime examples of that. Cam and Tyler are key reasons these parts came to life and we are not stopping here. We have so many new products slated for release, in testing phases, and in raw development. The energy is amazing and I really see this year as a massive transition for our company. It is growing in the right ways and we could not do any of it without the support of our crew, our riders, the media, and most importantly, our customers. - Eric Davies (Deity, Owner)

aside from the machine chatter marks on the radii i agree with you.
  • 14 1
I'll machine some chatter marks in your radii.
  • 13 0
Those are not chatter marks, they're tooling marks from the tool path. I think it adds depth and sexiness.
  • 3 5
they should have shortened the depth of those tabs to make em bottle openers. Not much better than a good beer after a long ride!

How can 110 grams of aluminum cost 105$? That's ridiculously cheap! Smile

dam, I wish they had made that cavity stem in the same black white and red colour scheme as the micro dm stem
  • 5 0
All I have to say is screw you Diety! I just bought a stem for the DH and now I have to buy another one. Especially since you now have the green stem that matches the green grips and pedals from you! Good thing for the Buy/Sell forum.

Can everything I own be these colors? All of it.
  • 6 0
Well, now I have to change my BLKMRKT underboss stem.

Im just sorry Deity, but $105 for 2 clamps of metal. I get that Mountain biking is expensive, but thats a hefty price tag for 2 clamps of metal with a Deity logo on them. You guys do make great stuff, but at a certain point my wallet can only take so much abuse. Same with Chromag, I got a pair of Scarabs for my Dj bike and it ran me a good $110 and for bars, another $80. They look nice, but its just a large price tag.

alex you are too ratchet for me

 What about the TMac pedals?!?!?!?
  • 8 8
Ok...I love Deity but as someone who has years of experience as a quality engineer for the cnc industry those chamfers are hideous. Neg prop me all you want but the chatter is too obvious to me. Looks like brake jack around the part. These are absolutely gorgeous cnc gems but that chatter needs to be fixed. Almost looks as if they are the last tooling path after slitting. Please look into the feeds and speeds and also the rigidity of both the tooling and work holding. That green stem is screaming take my money but as someone who would have to reject that at work I just cant do it. Eric....if you are outsourcing, you have every right to have your supplier fix the chatter. If you make them in house this is an easy fix I promise. Shoot me a message for I can most certainly help you if you outsource and should be help if you cut these in house. Please because I want one. Thanks.

 i like it. Razz
  • 8 1
Hmmm, me thinks you know not what you are talking about.
I assume you are referring to the green stem in the last picture?

First, it's not a chamfer, (which is flat) but a corner radius (which is round).
Second, it is not chatter, but the tool marks from the ball end mill they used to 3D cut the surface.
Decrease in step over would help this (but add to production time), or more time in the deburring tumbler would help diminish the tool marks.

But speaking as a machinist and engineer for the past 15 years, I think it looks great!
  • 11 1
 @bikebasher is correct...

The machining detail on the corner radius of the Cavity is 100% intentional and looks incredible in person.
  • 2 1
Agree it is a corner rad and now that I see the ass end of the blue one I see it is indeed 3d milled. Great job for sure. Im used to a part like this coming off a 5th axis or a zillion spindle lathe with a zillion mill heads inside and robot arms (we have some wild machines at work). Im assuming this is off a conventional mill. Again truley gorgeous.

Cool to see there are new short stem options out there... I've been riding Straightline's 28mm stem on my dh for a few years now. Its hard to go back to a 50mm length..
  • 2 0

Looks awesome. But no 35mm super-oversized handlebars? Hope they make it.
  • 2 1
 i got them
  • 1 0
These Deity stems are similar to HitNRun's for sure!
  • 2 1
I'm relatively new to the MTB community, and I was wandering if a shorter cockpit makes is easier for the rider to pull wheelies?
  • 4 0
Shorter stem lengths move the rider's weight bias towards the rear wheel, so yes, it would probably make it easier to wheelie or manual. DH riders prefer them for the weight shifting and because it quickens up the steering and agility response.
  • 4 1
Maybe. Its a longer lever surely, but you also have more weight over the front wheel, so you'd have to lean much harder to unweight the front wheel. I think the longer stem on trials bike is because the nose wheelie frequently (creates longer lever away from pivot point) to climb obstacles and because when they wheelie/manual it's a more natural position for their hands. I am by no means an expert on trials bikes, is anyone else familiar with them here?
  • 7 1
well you might disagree but your wrong. ^
  • 10 0
He is not wrong.. But misses the point of the rear wheel being really close to the bb with trials ..
There is a really small space for the easy or good manual.. I can throw my weight back on my dh bike.. I can't on my trials bike because it weighs shit.. I can stand however.. On my dh bike.too.. But costs more energy.. Pulling the bars however is wrong. Eye Admit to that.. It's weight and pedal power.. After that balance..
The long stem for trials is stand over height.. What bree said.. Makes the.most sense about the front end I guess..

I personally am baffled that the first comment was not about a dollar for a gram of aluminum. Wtf. I love deity.. But 100bucks / euros for 2 little rings. Is going a tat too far . Even if they come in.red Cool
  • 1 0
I'm sure someone else can elaborate on this better than I can but I think the comparison begins with the chainstays, not the stems. I am also not an expert, but trials bikes have smaller wheels and shorter chainstays, which would completely change the force required to lift the front and decrease the distance you would need to put your weight back to maintain a manual.
  • 1 0
Trials bikes have super short chainstays 350-380mm and have a positive bb drop (25-70mm) thus lifting the front end is relatively easy compared to normal mtbs. The long stem in trials is for stability and also to move the rider weigh forward in order to get up stuff. Thus shorter stems do make it easier to manual all other things being equal. The point of these stems is to compensate for the ever increasing top tube lengths thus maintaining the same reach (wheelbase does increase with the increasing top tube thus giving more stability).
  • 3 0
im liking the moto look of the micro dm, finally someone gets it right
