every other year they've made a ss slayer
im giving darkstar a +1 for the only one making SENSE in this discussion
The bike you see has CNC'ed everything, and that costs $$$$. We will build enough Slayers to justify the cost of opening forged tooling, which keeps the price in check. But the ONLY way this bike will ever go to production is if there is enough demand (and sales) to justify it. The world doesn't need a $4000 SS bike.
So talk to your shop. Show them you are serious. Write your congressman. Start a petition. Whatever. Start a thread with a headcount.
Forged stuff is lighter and cheeper to make... but the setup and getting the tooling is REALLY expensive. Thus they need to know they can sell enough to make it worth it. Otherwise for small production runs CNC is actually cheaper.
Obviously you going off about how people wont pay 4000$ for this bike is dumb when its a reply to him saying the bike wont be marketed for sale because its cost is too high.
different suspension system
the Rocky-Mtn has "four-bar" (chain stay pivot i.e. horst pivot)
the Wildcard has "faux-bar" (seat stay pivot)
this Rocky SS is the first I've seen from the Rocky brand using a chain stay pivot (i.e. FSR), their previous bikes have been "faux-bar" so they can sell into the USA
because its not going into production there is no chance of Specialized taking them to court over selling a production bike with a "horst pivot"
overall, looks like a sweet frame
its a nice looking bike theres nothing wrong with the sus setup, not evry bike needs a brand new suspennsion redesign to be good
and wtf is with all the "its nothing new" "it looks like a...."
it could have a totaly diferant geo to any ss bike made today, none of you know yet you still choose to be ignorant and put unescacery comments
imo it looks sick
Have you not seen the Rocky Mountain Altitude or the new Element RSL? Those bikes and the new Slayer all use RMB's patented pivot location that is NOT an FSR. Rocky's patent owns above the axle and Specialized owns below the axle. Simple.
if its that simple, why has Rocky Mtn. not used this system on their XC bikes before? why have their previous bikes used a faux-bar (seat stay pivot) system?
and do they actually own a specific "patent" on this 'above the axle' pivot location?
because there are a host of other companies in the US, Canada and Europe running horst-pivot style (chainstay pivots both under the axle, in-line with axle and above the rear wheel axle) on their bikes, and these are not patented....
email norco and ask them how many empires they sold and see then if having a production slope bike is a worth while investment
LOL obviously it sells decent or they wouldnt have made another year of it for 2010 .Alot of 4-5inch 4x bikes sell well for example; transition double's, banshee rampants, kona bass's just to name a few, its a good investment for bike companies.
But gotta admit, it looks pretty clean.
