i can probably think of like 15 other bikes that have this same suspension design, starting with walmart bikes...
  • 1 2
 that's a sick bike anyhow!
  • 2 2
look at the pivot by the dropout....
  • 4 2
 "hartail" Razz
  • 6 2
i fail to see the resemblance from this bike and the hooker both bikes have completly different angles and you can bet on the geometry being way different
  • 3 3
@pwngemn: do you think the Walmart bikes had this suspension bikes first, and all the bike manufacturers are copying them? Or perhaps it might be the other way around?
  • 2 1
no, my comment was replying to noralassassin who thinks that this is such an original design. I am not saying that they had the design first...
  • 1 1
ya someone may have had it first but it is different pivot placement
  • 2 3
 it is so tiny looking.

 ritchierich, a two-step lyrik set at 115? ain't such a terrible fork
  • 2 3
Only 10 made! Lucky I don't want one
  • 4 1

every other year they've made a ss slayer
  • 1 0

You guys are clowns. This bike, aside from having slopestyle type geometry, which I think you will find is roughly the same across the board, looks more like the new Rocky Slayer than anything else. Same dropout design, same pivot points, similar tubing. So if the ripped off anybody, its themselves.
  • 3 0
And what do you all care anyways..........keep your bikes, this one's for not for sale.
  • 4 0
Does rocky mountain want a medal or somthing for coming out with this? Like why make such a bike deal of it if they are only making ten. Its like they're just showing us that " even though this bike won't be produced, we are still capable of producing a slope bike like all the other cool companies"
  • 1 0
Thats not their intention at all. They are just showing it off, its a cool bike. You would too.
  • 1 0
that sucks that their only making 10 of them
  • 2 0
why is there going to be only 10 made! nooo i want one
  • 2 1
it looks more like a tiny version of a 2010 glory without the maelstro system
  • 2 1
Yes, they all look like full-suspension 26 inch BMX bikes, to be honest. Its because thats what works. Thats what slopestyle is, its BMX free-style on a larger scale.
  • 3 0
Darkstar is mr know it all
  • 5 0
I could change my name to mrknowitall, but i prefer my current sn. No, seriously I wasnt trying to come off that way- I just think that the reason all slopestyle bikes look the same is the same reason all bmx-bikes look the same. There are charecteristics that desired that dictate how the bike looks. Low top tube, strong tuebset, low travel.....ect ect. Its the same reason all moto-cross bikes look the same, you gotta go with what works. Not trying to be a dick, just discussing here.
  • 4 2
thanks for neg propping me choosing to run one of the few konas that dont break and have a good history.. Razz

im giving darkstar a +1 for the only one making SENSE in this discussion Salute
  • 2 3
 not single speedFrown
  • 2 0
wellll you cant really, you'd have to put loads of slack in the chain for single speed and use a long cage derailier or something. or a pauls tensioner ie, get a bass.
  • 2 0
tha bass is the new cowan Big Grin
  • 2 0
ino, ive got one and you know it Wink
  • 3 0
Ok guys, here it is... This is #2 of 10 to be made. Evarrr. If you want one, really want one one day, you need to make it known. The way I see it right now, there is just no way to build this thing at a reasonable cost:

The bike you see has CNC'ed everything, and that costs $$$$. We will build enough Slayers to justify the cost of opening forged tooling, which keeps the price in check. But the ONLY way this bike will ever go to production is if there is enough demand (and sales) to justify it. The world doesn't need a $4000 SS bike.

So talk to your shop. Show them you are serious. Write your congressman. Start a petition. Whatever. Start a thread with a headcount.
  • 3 1
Not that i'd ever want a 4" jump fully that i can't run singlespeed without a tensioner, but i'm wondering why a company would choose not to make a bike available to the public because of the cost of CNC'ing everything. Just don't CNC everything... it likely saved a 1/4 of a pound in the end. I highly doubt your gonna be seeing anyone crying over a shock mount that hasn't been machined out. I definitely can't see a demand for this bike if it will cost as much as you say, i can't see much of a demand for this bike at all actually... kinda seems like it's been beat to punch by alot of other companies and their single speed ready designs and other companies that don't use single speed designs as well. It does look pretty though, maybe that will go together well with this hype on the front page of pinkbike for some positive results in terms of demand. It does look like a fun ride i just can't see any reasons anyone would consider this bike over other options out there, the "it feels like my hardtail with 4 inches of travel" line is classic and has been said about pretty much every other 4 inch dirt jump fully. Good luck selling this "slopestyle" bike to kids with too much money who need the $4000 dollar CNC'd everything dirt jump bike to help them on there way to becoming the uber hero bike pro.
  • 4 0
IF you read what he said, the only way it goes into production is if you can justify the cost of forged tooling...

Forged stuff is lighter and cheeper to make... but the setup and getting the tooling is REALLY expensive. Thus they need to know they can sell enough to make it worth it. Otherwise for small production runs CNC is actually cheaper.

Obviously you going off about how people wont pay 4000$ for this bike is dumb when its a reply to him saying the bike wont be marketed for sale because its cost is too high.
  • 1 0
yeah my point for posting was that whatever the cost of the frame, it's silly to act like your withholding your amazing cnc'd or open forged everything bike, when so many other companies are currently succesfully selling more effective rigs. I don't know why someone would even consider this bike with so many other better options especially after a representative from the company mentioned a $4000 dollar price tag in whatever context he meant it in. Just seems like silly hype.
  • 1 0
just to let u guys know.. i taled to a rocky guy at the booth at crankworx, they said there is no way they would sell it for 3500, they are looking at around 2000ish for frame
  • 3 0
 Two words: Banshee Wildcard

different suspension system

the Rocky-Mtn has "four-bar" (chain stay pivot i.e. horst pivot)

the Wildcard has "faux-bar" (seat stay pivot)

this Rocky SS is the first I've seen from the Rocky brand using a chain stay pivot (i.e. FSR), their previous bikes have been "faux-bar" so they can sell into the USA

because its not going into production there is no chance of Specialized taking them to court over selling a production bike with a "horst pivot"

overall, looks like a sweet frame
  • 3 0
Not entirely true... The new slayer uses the same suspension but still doesn't require licencing from specialized because it's still not a true FSR design. The horst link specifically has the rear pivot below and forward of the rear axle. This does not, so they can get away with it.
  • 1 0
Have you not seen the Rocky Mountain Altitude or the new Element RSL? Those bikes and the new Slayer all use RMB's patented pivot location that is NOT an FSR. Rocky's patent owns above the axle and Specialized owns below the axle. Simple.
  • 1 0
in adition...wildcard (and even rampant) has to long chainstay,
  • 6 0
daddy i know what i want for Christmas
  • 5 0
HOW DO THEY GET THE BIKE TO STAND ON ITS OWN???! every picture I see, its just standing there:P
  • 6 0
They balance it upright and then run backwards and take a perfectly focused picture before it falls over. Or magic.
  • 7 0
Its magic. It has to be.
  • 2 0
to all the 14 year olds that say oh look its the same suspension design as a TREK c'mon, are you joking. First off the pivot is no where near the same spot, it's not nearly as active under braking as the TREK. Yes it shares some similar looks, sloping downtube, linkage looks similar, but it's not, so please enroll yourselves in some common sense courses, so that everyone else who has any basic knowledge of suspension designs and to Rocky Mountain, the bike looks great, and has some awesome angles.
  • 2 0
this bike is like every other "slope" bike out there. but every company wants one and the design seems to work for most people, so why not use it? the claim that "it feels like my hard tail" is definatly nothing new, everyone says that! but obviously he likes his new ride so stop hatin!!
  • 2 0
why is evrone ragging it alredi?
its a nice looking bike theres nothing wrong with the sus setup, not evry bike needs a brand new suspennsion redesign to be good

and wtf is with all the "its nothing new" "it looks like a...."
it could have a totaly diferant geo to any ss bike made today, none of you know yet you still choose to be ignorant and put unescacery comments

imo it looks sick
  • 2 0
They need to release this bike. The slayer SS is a terrible bike for slopestyle why do you think they made this. Cause their riders hated the slayer. not saying its a bad bike im sure its good for trails and other stuff but for slopestyle its simply to big with terrible stand over. And not a very flickable bike for tailwhips and spins watching gully on the slayer in crankworks it looked like all of his tricks took so much more effort because of how big and burly slayers are. Rocky should keep the slayer as a trail bike and release this as there slopestyle/4xbike there one of the only companies left that doesnt have a legit 4inch bike.
  • 1 0
I like the look and it seems to be popular already but RMB-PM, what exactly is it that makes this bike so outrageously exspencive. granted it has the fancy hydroformed tubing and does have it's fair share of cnc but it seems other companies are able to do the samething profitably. why do you guys think that this will not profit?
  • 3 0
Profitably? Don't assume too much. Not many companies offer a dedicated slope bike and those that do, don't sell very many. It also isn't fair to compare the Slayer against brands that are more price point focused (I refuse to call them out specifically). The truth is that 90% of riders in this segment ride hardtails and don't want to buck up 3k for a slope bike.
  • 1 0
 Spot-on response pete.
  • 1 0
Although hardtail bikes are a bigger market, short travel full sus' are the future. I think that if Rocky Mountain are going to survive in the future they need to listen to the demand and start making a bike for every occation.
  • 1 0
Not entirely true... The new slayer uses the same suspension but still doesn't require licencing from specialized because it's still not a true FSR design. The horst link specifically has the rear pivot below and forward of the rear axle. This does not, so they can get away with it.

Have you not seen the Rocky Mountain Altitude or the new Element RSL? Those bikes and the new Slayer all use RMB's patented pivot location that is NOT an FSR. Rocky's patent owns above the axle and Specialized owns below the axle. Simple.

if its that simple, why has Rocky Mtn. not used this system on their XC bikes before? why have their previous bikes used a faux-bar (seat stay pivot) system?

and do they actually own a specific "patent" on this 'above the axle' pivot location?

because there are a host of other companies in the US, Canada and Europe running horst-pivot style (chainstay pivots both under the axle, in-line with axle and above the rear wheel axle) on their bikes, and these are not patented....

 barnz0rz (1 days ago)
email norco and ask them how many empires they sold and see then if having a production slope bike is a worth while investment

LOL obviously it sells decent or they wouldnt have made another year of it for 2010 .Alot of 4-5inch 4x bikes sell well for example; transition double's, banshee rampants, kona bass's just to name a few, its a good investment for bike companies.
  • 1 0
check 2011.... no empire.... people will buy doubles and rampants because you expect that kind of custom bike from companies like that....
  • 1 0
not putting these into production is possibly one of the stupiest desicions buisness wise ive seen anyone make in a long time, why? it looks good and is the kind of bike a lot of people want at the moment.
  • 1 0
For the record, this bike will NEVER go to production. These frames are custom made in Vancouver for Gully, Smutok, and Jarrett Moore to compete on. Only 10 will be made.
  • 1 0
 PC? is that you buddy?
  • 1 0
PC is no longer with Rocky.
  • 1 0
Oh seriously? Are you from Blacks in Courteny?
  • 1 1
This is correct and we've just added that to the main page part - only 10 made and it won't be a production model.
  • 1 0
 Thanks Brule!
  • 3 0
only 10 being made... huh... might have to fight for one haha
  • 3 0
I'll test one of those out for you guys if you want to make sure they work
  • 3 0
Then say it got stolen and keep iT
  • 3 0
This makes me want to get a job!
  • 5 0
My god, that is the most american thing I've heard all day...
  • 1 2
man rocky fails hard if they dont put this bike into production it looks pretty dialed. I think it would sell well. Seems to me rocky has been slipping the last few years less and less sales they arnt as popular ever since the RMX was discontinued.
  • 1 1
email norco and ask them how many empires they sold and see then if having a production slope bike is a worth while investment
  • 2 0
How is that worth the money they put into designing the frame to only make 10?
  • 2 0
well it could be more like a publicity stunt, if people see their pro riders are doing good on this one they might take a closer look at Rocky for their next bike
  • 3 0
Correct, same reason car companies build race cars. Cant we all just enjoy looking at this thing, which is sooooo beautifully made, instead of arguing over what design it looks like. Good greif Im sick of that. Their BICYCLES people, some of them are bound to be similar, you sound like a bunch of idiots going back and forth everyday about this. Everything posted on Pinkbike turns into this same argument, has anyone noticed that?
  • 2 0
Yeah, but race cars arent affordable for the average person, If rocky put out this frame I would be able to buy it. Racecar, not so much.
  • 1 0
Yeah, of course thats just a comparison, considering you could build the best bike in the world for under 10,000. While a top class race car can cost millions. Its just an example, the intention is the same.
  • 1 0
whats the point in doing all the R&D and paying some one a good wage to design a bike thats not going into production? waste man
  • 1 0
Read some of the previous comments its not that hard to figure out!
  • 5 2
if only it was bb pivot

WoW it look's like a trek. It's most likely rad but it looks like all the other's out there.

  • 1 1

  • 2 3
Looks like a traditional 4-bar to me... a.k.a. not a remedy
  • 3 0
Slightly different than a true horst-link though, as the pivot is above the axle. But you are correct that it is different than the remedy.
  • 1 1
All I wanna know is if these modified horst-links (wich is really what they are) have been ruled a significant enough design change to get around paying royalties on the horst-link patent... or maybe the patents run up and they just wanna tag their suspension as unique regardless of it being practically the same.
  • 2 0
I believe that the Horst Link specifically has the pivot below the axle, which is how they get away with not having it licensed. From what I have read, it is this placement of the pivot that gives the Horst Link the benefits that it has. Putting the pivot above the axle, as RM has done, WILL change the way it performs - how, I'm not sure.
  • 1 1
 looks short as hell

On a bike you can't buy, pick any price cuz it wont matter....
