Fresh news just in from Si Paton from Geneva Airports First Class Lounge:
The UCI Gravity Board consists of a dozen key names in the DH industry and race scene that meet each year to discuss the direction in which the sport of DH racing should go. After a heated debate, general consensus finally agreed that for 2010 SPD pedals under a trial one year ban would be implemented. This would compliment the ban of skin suits and going bullet with the peakless helmets. The above decision is aimed at improving the credibility of DH riding to a wider market by differentiating it even more from the XC, Road and Track cycling disabilities.
No More..
The British NPS will be leading the way, states Steve Parr, Race Director for the NPS
www.npsdh.com. "We have acted swiftly to implement this change of rules and believe by enforcing this ban one year early, will enable the British riders to get the snap on the competition."
Expect to see the official statement on the UCI website shortly -

i think that if you wanna ride clips, who is to tell you other wise?
i think that if you wanna ride flats, who is to tell you other wise? But it has been proven by the pros that it does not make a difference, its what you feel most comfortable in!

The news is joke.
Downhill is RACING it's no freeride, cliff kucking spectacle.
Major deception for the race scene.
United Cyclist Idiots
Are you saying that Steve Peat has pure technique?
You are stupid men, period. Actually I improved my riding when I used my spd because I tried to use my balance better and it payed off.
This is just my very personal thing though.
Lots of great dowhillers use spd like Steve Peat, Brian Lopes, Gee Atherton and lots of great dhiller don't like Sam Hill, Rennie, Kovarik.
It is personal thing!
so maybe it is true, clips are for ROADIES
If riders wanna be cheating jeyboys then let them - they probably only started using clip-ins because they couldn't fathom how to bunny-hop their xc bike back in the early days... so started cheating back then!
Yes I ride clipped in but before that I rode flats. I'm happy with both but I wish I had Clips for the more pedaly DH courses. Ctd your just making yourself look ignorant and pathetic. As for the not able to bunny hop what sort of racing do you think Steve peat, John Tomac, Shaun Palmer , Rob Warner , Missy Glover and JMC (RIP) start with ?
BUT you yourself by you "rash statement " are saying you are better than the Pros (because you didn't come from XC or BMX) .
Other point is , why is clipping "cheating " and not 8 inches of front and rear suspension? Disc brakes are cheating compared to V brakes, hell gears are cheating too.
SO we should all ride single speed steel ridged bikes with flat pedals and V-brakes .
I also hate the no skin-suit rule. This is racing, the racer should pretty much be able to do whatever the hell he/she wants in order to get down the course faster.
Matter of fact is, you have to make a sport appealing to the audience aswell as the riders in order to make it popular. The riders hate skinsuits (I wouldn´t wear one either!) and it is less pleasant to watch I think. And to keep the competition fair (hello team mojo), it´s good to have them banned from the Worldcup. And all our weird friends who like ´em can still rejoice over the flying condoms at the worlds every year.
As for Pedals, it´s a matter of taste. Personally, I can´t stand ´em for DH, but I wouldn´t go without them when I switch to my road bike. And 4X without SPD´s is also quite a pain in the ass, I guess.
But, ey, I liked the joke
time to sit back enjoy a beer.. and laugh
