These are concepts we've been working on for a year now and some of them were ideas we've had for even longer. You hope people appreciate what we've created. I hope people get the essential message of what we were trying to say with the movie, we want to be inclusive and get people stoked on mountain biking. We want people that already mountain bike to feel like they're part of this large culture, and we want people to realize that mountain biking is this amazing thing and you're all a part of it, and you should feel proud. For people that don't mountain bike, we want to spread the message and show people this is an amazing lifestyle and an amazing sport: if you want to give it a try your life's going to be better for it. Right now, I'm just happy to have a few beers, hang out with a few friends, and enjoy the evening. These nights don't come along very often so you just gotta soak it in while you can! I'm fired up! There's nothing like releasing a new film. There's been two years of intense work that's gone into this thing so this is a big night. It's not ours anymore it's the world's. We (at TGR) all bike so it's super exciting to release a bike film, I think the collaboration between the two companies has been phenomenal. We've brought together the strengths of the two companies and it's gonna be bigger, badder, and better than anything we've seen in a long time. Hopefully it inspires people to push the boundaries, to step out into the unReal world, and push themselves, and try things that have never been done before, and just experience life a little bit richer. Todd Jones, TGR, executive producer |
Filming for unReal was pretty insane. I'm trying not to use a word that sounds like unreal, I'm looking for a synonym, all right fine I'll say it: it was unreal! All the concepts they had laid out for us seemed pretty ambitious and slightly impossible but we're here, we're at the premiere. Push came to shove and the movie is finished. All the concepts worked. Couldn't be more stoked to watch it on the big screen with all these nice loud fancy speakers. My favourite shoot was Wyoming, it was honestly my favourite shoot I've ever been on. I'm just so excited to see all the footage we got there. It's been a year since we filmed it and I didn't really watch the footage as we were filming, I was kind of trying to replicate the way we used to do it when it was only 16mm film. It's way more exciting on premiere night when you haven't seen all the footage in the field and been sent little rough cuts and edits throughout the post production process. To be able to sit in the theatre and watch something from a year ago that you were excited about at the time, and seeing it now is a pretty exciting place to be in. Cam McCaul, athlete |
I'm stoked! I've been waiting to see it for the last six months and knowing what these guys have done in the past, it's gonna be sick. A whole lotta work went into the Whistler segment. It was crazy to see the behind the scenes stuff that went into our segment. Set up times were 2-3 hours for some shots so it was cool to see it all come together. A couple days into shooting the segment I ended up having a tumble and punctured a lung, broke some ribs, separated my shoulder, broke my scaphoid, and knocked myself out for a couple minutes. Other than that it was a good time haha. Ian Morrison, athlete |
Shooting at night was the hardest thing ever: hauling lights up the mountain, hauling lights down the mountain, generators, cords, being cold and having to ride. We were out late just filming small sections of trail so it was a lot of work to get a little bit of footage. It'll be rewarding to see. I think it's gonna be really entertaining. Anthill has been killing it around the clock and all the athletes are stoked! Brett Rheeder, athlete |
It's been a long time in the making so it's awesome to have the movie finished and to be able to share it with the mountain bike community. It's just great to be finished and for it to be going out on tour. We've been working on it for so long and it feels good to have it out there. It's amazing to see this many people in the building! Darren McCullough, Anthill, cinematographer/editor |
The last month has been absolutely insane, the crew has been pinning it so hard and working insane hours to get this thing across the finish line. I'm really proud of everyone who's been involved with the project, it's been awesome. Hope everyone enjoys the film, we're all looking forward to sharing it with the rest of the world!
