I had to document the trip of some guys in italy and as we passed this cave I suggested that one of them do this drop. They all declined it. I WANTED THIS PICTURE so I did the lighting job and handed the camera to one of the guys and did the drop by myself. After three attempts he got the moment right.
It was a pretty sketchy run in / run out.
I think it's a sick POD. Granted most of us could ride off that drop, but I know I sure as hell would screw up the photography part of it. F*CK the POD bitching. If it was a 30 foot drop someone would bitch that there are too many DH PODs. If it was a huge trick on a dirt jumper someone would make fun of the riders skinny jeans (probably me). So keep up the good work brotha.
This isnt called the OMFG That Was Insane, I would never try that, props to that guy POD. Its simply POD. That means it can be some crazy jump shot, some super high speed shot, or a kick ass, very different, artsy shot.
So all you little pukes who are bashing it simply because it isnt the biggest drop you have ever seen should go back to school and try to develop a true sense of life.
Great shot, very different! I love it!
sweet lighting on the shot, but its like two feet, if u were styling a 10-15 foot ledge id say ok p.o.d but wtf mate>? hah i cooda rolled over this little thing on my 24" hardtail
Ok so the photography is uber sick lighting and everything the photographer did made it badass but really an 8 yr old could do it, the ledge that is, not the photo so super props to the person who pushed the button and told him to say cheese. POD for the photography and location, not the ledge
It's a cool looking photo and all, but isn't he just riding off a two foot ledge and landing in some loose rock? Not sure what's so 'ballsy' about it..
I did read the description, so what? The guys he was with didn't want to do it, and he did. For all I know the other guys could be shit riders or just not like the look of a crap ledge to flattish landing enough to try it. Nothing about the description or the photo is proving this to be ballsy.
I still give credit that it's a cool location and the lighting sets it off well but let's be honest i've dropped off bigger garden walls on my way to the shops.
@Dirty. PODs don't all have to have some insane whip or drop or what-not. its cool because it shows the epic places riders go to ride. either down a fat mountain or in a cave. lets see you find a drop in a dark cave and ride off it.
I wasn't disputing it's right to be POD, it certainly deserves it. I'm not into just massive jumps or drops in photos, I can appreciate arty and individual shots. All I was saying is why is everyone calling it such a ballsy move?
No disrespect to the photographer/rider i'm just questioning the above comments. Put it this way...Do you look at the photo and think 'excellent shot' or "Holy shitballs I would die if i tried to ride that'?
haha ericbirk.. no pukes here, downhill ridin hittin them dope stepdowns, shuttling that shit with buddies, just sayin the roots that i ride over r bigger than the rock in this pic thats all u probs suck @ ridin but wtv sall good evryone to their opinion
oh man I am so impressed. I wish I could be more like you...
oh wait no I don't.
You probably are a better rider than me, you live in Nanaimo and I live in Edmonton...
I get out probably 5 times a year, you can ride everyday. I guess its a good thing I don't really give a shit hey...
There is more to life than going big cool guy.
IF your going to bash someones photo about not being big enough, you should probably have something decent in your own photo selection... All your photos are of you posing, you broken, or you trail riding...
Im just sayin, you know sall good, wtv...
Yep! It was called the red bull race down under and it was in a salt mine in Germany. The course was lame, BUT the actual race was pretty crazy. It was pitch dark in there, but they gave every racer 1 head lamp so we could at least see where we were going. Good times!
