With endless terrain to explore, Darren and Ricky take to the motos to try and find some lines to ride on their mountain bikes. With ridges and cliffs everywhere and access to almost anything they can see, the door is opened to some truly unique features. As professional athletes, Darren Berrecloth and Ricky Brabec come from two very different, yet relatable worlds—Darren is a mountain biker and Ricky, a cross-country moto racer. Both live lifestyles that are equal parts passion and hard work. Wide Open is a series that documents a week in the desert with the two as they enjoy the freedom and good times that only two wheels and zero obligations can provide.

thats not crypto soil, as you can see there is absolutely no vegetation on it, probably hasnt been for a million years. This shits all over the place in utah

 You're right, between 163 and 157 million years ( +/- 1 million year).

This is about bikes. Therefore, I enjoy. (It's cool, I like it, nice series)

 Nice video series Smile
Also, hats off to the Bearclaws's wife for sticking during the travel with a new born.

Sure hope that's on private land. That cryptobiotic soil will take decades to heal, if ever. There's a reason it's not a mojave desert but give it a few years and that's what you'll have.

Huuum... that looks like Oxfordian Black Shales! Pretty sure there must be some very thick-bedded sandstone turbidites with regular parallel-sided and sharp contacts! That is perfect for oil exploration! I'm gonna call an oil company right away. Can't believe a French is actually gonna produce millions of jobs in the US... we're gonna call it FREEDOM LAND!

I've heard that after a rain the place looks like nobody has ridden there. Erosion happens faster than the crypto crust can grow,

this is the perfect video. makes me wanna ride moto and mtb.

Interesting. They take finding a good place to ride above, and beyond that's for sure. Should be cool what comes of it.

Seems cool but I can't help feeling like they are fucking up those hills and they ain't gonna repair. I might be wrong but it seems like a dick move. Cut a loamer and the hill will heal these sandy ridges aren't gonna suddenly grow sand. Bad claw

I'm pretty sure the Claw and all of his sponsers are going to make sure it's legal to ride there before they make a movie out of it. I live in Utah and there are miles and miles and miles of this stuff that are open to the public. See no problem here.

@cheeverbrent: This is correct. We worked with @FreehubMag to make sure all locations were legal for camping, riding, and filming.

This is 'Murica! We have public lands, and we'll fight the government to keep it that way!

Why don't you go ahead & lose a bunch of sleep over it you fvckin' tree fvcker?

Rad lines always look forward to the claw shredding lines like this!

Was hoping to see some bikes without motors but sick anyway.

Just be glad they weren't riding e-bikes. These would have completely destroyed the terrain.

 You'll dig the next episode!

@Maxxis: Haha, I understand it makes perfect sense for exploration purposes to enjoy pedal assist on the way up on the bike you're about to bomb down. Just be prepared for some organized dislike by your North American readers typically because of the way trail access is defined over there (strictly non-motorized, that is). It might not be too bad as these aren't mountainbike trails here, but I just wanted to prepare you just in case Wink .

Just be glad they weren't driving some shitty VW.

i forgot.... was this about bicycles?
  • 17 19
Not a fan of the motos tearing up those ridges...
  • 14 5
Yeah lol, they completely ruined the desert for everyone now.
  • 15 1
This is an OHV area managed as open; there are no established trails and you are free to ride where you like.
  • 11 2
@TahoeRob: growing up in Moab, I'm used to open OHV. There's nothing wrong with this video. Free to play.

A few rain storms and the trails are practically gone there. Other wise you'd see every ridge trampled down to a flat path. The ridges are a blast to ride. Hopefully that helps you sleep better at night.

Poor desert. Bet it's really hurtin'. Frown
