You really think he doesn't know it's possible to Stephen Murray himself without actually riding like Stephen Murray? I could come on here & tell everyone to stay in their homes because the world is a dangerous place!!!! Don't go to work or anywhere because you might get hit with a jumbo jet or blown up with a car bomb!!!!! Build a rubber room, bury it in a hole & f*cking stay in it!!!! Don't even look outside because the UV will damage your eyes!!! You know what? Just kill yourselves!!!! Yeah yeah yeah do that because then & only then do you completely eliminate all risk of injury or death. It's the safest way.
You ride how you wanna ride & all of us will ride how we wanna ride. Not wearing a helmet is f*cking stupid, but so is complaining about someone else not wearing one. Sometimes I wear my helmet (almost always), sometimes I wear my seat belt (almost never). It's my call. Not yours. I evaluate risks myself & make my own decision. So does Bafus, so do you & so does everyone. Everything in this video without a helmet was not nearly as dangerous as Rheeder & Semenuk at X or Zink & McGarry at Rampage or D-Mac any time he's on his bike, no matter how much protection they're wearing. The level of protection does not rise proportionally with the things that action sports athletes do & I doubt any of you whiners here on Zinkbike are telling Cam that he shouldn't have flipped that Oakley advert because no helmet could save him from that if it went as bad as it could go.
Since riding a bike without a helmet is illegal if you're under 18 in an increasing number of states and countries, I think kids are growing up wearing helmets as a natural part of riding a bike, and with proper parenting, will be less likely to take them off in the future. I'm all for saying "Wear your helmets kids.", but I don't think it's my place to tell an adult how to create his art.
A moment of perfect form captured in a photo. Imagine them wearing plastic helmets. For me it would definitely take away from the beauty of that moment. That moment that years of dedication and practice had led up to.

explain to me what I missed? If I recall correctly, you said that wearing a helmet would definitely take away from the beauty of that moment. Maybe I am just seeing things, I did eat alot of shrooms earlier today...err was that yesterday? I don't know.
I was using kung fu as an example of my perspective on riding a bike. For me, the form and style used to achieve a goal is just as important as the goal itself.
A fun exercise to see this for yourself is to look at photos of riders doing simple, but stylish tricks like tabletops or turndowns, and imagine them without the bike. Some look like they are in a perfect kung fu or yoga position, while others goofy and awkward.
I'm just pointing out that there are different perspectives. Things aren't black and white.
I always wear a helmet when I ride, and I recommend that everyone else wear a helmet when they ride as well, but I'm not going to try to guilt someone into wearing one by projecting some role model ideals onto them.
It's not about whether anything is gnarly enough or not. It's not about whether he needs a helmet with his obvious skills-o-plenty.
The point is: It's on video. On the interwebs. Where kids will watch it. And try to replicate it. But without his skills. And without any sense of their limits.
So, this coming from a country where NOBODY wears a helmet on their daily ride back form the store, packed with groceries, using their mobile phone etc. And from somebody who does not wear a helmet in normal everyday traffic either: When you're out doing stunts or going fast (especially when you're making videos and releasing these videos on the internet): Have an effin' sense of responsibility. It's not just you with your uber-skills using the space. Other traffic does not expect you to be twice as fast as a normal cyclist. Other traffic does not expect you to fly off a wall and land just in front of their bumper. Other traffic does not expect you to jump over a railing suddenly appear on their side of the fence.

The parents are the ones responsible. You want the kid, YOU look after it! It is not the world's responsibility to look after someone's kid. If your kid beats up another kid, YOU are held responsible. If your kid steals from a store, YOU are held responsible. If your kid is such a dumb little retard that they don't know enough to wear a helmet while doing dangerous things, then like Enduro27 said, there's either some genetic disadvantage there (got the f*cketard gene) &/or there's something wrong with the environment that YOU are providing for your kid. Comforting stupid parents for being stupid might be something that you worry about, but the rest of us have riding to do. Riding our own way, however the f*ck we see fit. Pro or not.
