For Europe, winter is a time to hunker down, peel out the waterproofs and base layers and get down and dirty in the mud trails, but its easy to find your self chin in palm starring at the sideways rain lashing against the window. Cabin fever starting to settle in, your belly filling up with the left over Xmas roast bird and reminiscing about the summer that once was.

The dusty trails and wife beaters feel like a distant past that wont be coming back any time soon. All you can do is sit it out, get wet and hope that next summer is even better!

Duane Walker is finding it tough letting go of summer. Juggling the hectic student life, full time education can really get to your head, so whats better than a mid-semester getaway! Duane found himself the shredding the hills of Les Deux Alpes this summer in search of an alternative to the standard french Portes du Soleil trip. Sometimes it nice to get away from the crowds and find another piece of mountain treasure.

Remember how it was to be out shredding big dusty corners, the feeling of waking up and not needing to put on as many layers as an onion.

With more than you think to offer, Les Deux Alpes has good variation of trails with more and more enduro loops popping up too. Short travel FR bike goes down well here. 180mm to soak up all them bumpers.

I once wore a tank top while riding to look cool...then I fell. I looked far from cool.
  • 3 1
did the same and got a very nice neck-collarbone zipfly.

it's called a vest over here d-bag, and d-bone gets style points for being such a badass. chicks dig scars and what better way to scar up then rock a beater? wise up you old man.
  • 40 6
lol. get all the scars you can, cuz it shows you're good at biking right? sometimes I crash on purpose just so it looks cool later.

nothin wrong with beaters, are you muricans too weak to show some skin? that long hair dont cover that red neck boy.
  • 12 2
@oliwat and @aiken you've both either ridden or ride American company's bikes made in Asia or USA. Lol

I'm so embarrassed to be English right now... :/

It's okay Clarky. We're not xenophobes like the above idiots, we think you dudes are pretty rad!

Yeah, no go for tanks tops here too. Not a big fan of road rash, and since when do chicks dig that? They dig scars for the badass stories that go with it, not "I didn't wear the right equipment and got f*cked up." Stupid ain't sexy, brah.

And dope riding! Hate how the frame colour never shows online, but by god those bikes are hot.

Stop hating the guy just cos he's wearing a vest!
  • 3 0
No one is hating on him. I think this is one of the more rad videos on PB. I just would not wear a tank top myself is all. To each their own but damn you kids get offended easily. I did not realize "vests" were such a controversial subject.
  • 5 0
I'll level with you, TJ. Duane is a friend of ours and so we understandably reacted when someone suggested he wore a vest to look cool. I know you didn't mean anything by it.

Peace and love, peace and love xoxox

let him wear what he wants to wear and focus on his sick ass riding
  • 4 0
Not sure if you noticed, but doesn't seem anyone is trying to strip him to his birthday suit and put him in a tux. He can wear what he wants, as we're free to post our opinions on why we would not. If you don't want a conversation, why go into a comment section?
  • 4 0
There is a difference between a conversation and people being easily offended by a simple comment. Many of these responses are knee-jerk child like responses to a simple statement...one time I wore a tank top...that same time I ate shit. I don't wear tank tops any more. If the conversation stayed on the subject of what I wrote that would be fine, but instead people wanted to cry. I did not realize some people were so easily offended on here. I should have known better.
@russclark: No worries. Peace and Love

typical pinkbike forums haha. such an easy place to get offended.
  • 2 1
Funny how people are quicker to comment on his clothes than anything else.
  • 1 0
Funny you should say that, considering how many comments were posted before this one was, aka people weren't even close to being quicker to comment about his clothing. Furthermore, don't go look if you'd had a bad day, cause it's the current VOD, and people are, as you could probably guess, talking about his attire! Figured I'd give you some warning so it doesn't put you off the rest of the evening. Cheers.

did anyone else think that a lot of that trail was up hill? haha cool cinematography
  • 8 0
Yeah I agree, last shot definitely looked like he was riding up hill!!
  • 10 0
Also, kinda crazy to have a landscape basically void of trees... you take for granted how different it makes the riding look.
  • 8 0
Yes It's pretty ommon in France to have a big part of resort without any trees because of the elevation. Les 2 Alpes must be the bike resort with the least trees and the bigger rocky section on the top. L'alpe d'huez (the Megavalanche spot) which is only on the other side of the valley (40min drive top) is more diversified with glacier on top (Les 2 alpe has a glacier but only for skiing, no ride on it durong the summer except for the mountain of hell race), rocky section, alpine meadows and a big orest on the lowest part of the resort (actually under the village elevation).
But for the both resort, the scenery is very beautiful but the most stunning scenery is at la Meige (35min rive from the 2 Alpes). This place is just gorgeus!

Over here in Ecuador we got 365 days a year of beautiful weather...summer in the day time, and fall in the evenings. Winter is not in our vocabulary! Please come visit !

Thats what fatbikes and an extra layer are for!
  • 4 0
Yeah, it's currently -10C feeling like -19C with windchill factor and wind gusts of 50km/h and the trails are pretty much solid ice and strewn with trees/branches from last weeks ice storm - I don't think I own enough layers! Smile

H82crash - I'm feeling the same pain from last weeks ice storm.

Loved it, and the tune. Think that was on Burning Calves?? Good to see Guitars and Tubs back in MTB not this touchy feely bullshit!!!
  • 1 0
Just before I watched this I thought if the next video is full of slow-mo and the music puts me to sleep I am just gonna take a nap but now I want to go for a ride. Just say no to touchy feely!

About 30 deg C outside here today. Just been for a ride with 1000 m of climbing to a dam where we swam and then bombed back down the single track. Another rough day in Africa.

Ummm if I lived somewhere like that I would not let winter get me down looks like plenty of skiing to do.
  • 1 0
Was that one ride, top to bottom? Amazing photos.
  • 1 0
i think; you can ride from 3200m to 1000m without taking a lift; but with flat pedalling junction and loosing some fun tracks.
  • 1 0
yep, you can ride from the glacier at 3200 right down to the valley floor at just below 1000m, pick the right route and you can maximise the great trails, with only a 5 minute flat transition... The less used red trails down are much more interesting than the very bike park blues!
