Trying the near impossible plus throwing big tricks on every feature...and landing them clean = 100. Bobble a couple of those landings but make it through the course without throwing a lesser trick because of loss of speed...well that should have gotten at least a 95 IMO.
I think the only reason he didn't win was because he double whipped twice (repetition gets docked) and he only barred up the drop. Everything else was gnarly, and very impressive that he didn't slip a foot on that 1080. I think top 3 was scored fair. Wish toquato got higher tho, his run for me fired up!
True...but he threw a combo on the run-in into the last feature, which...if I remember the winner whipped it and third barely got the tuck and wasn't able to throw his hands on a tuck no-hander...all for that speed I know, but still. Sem also looked like he wanted more on an earlier feature and reeled it in a little to keep that momentum. Some say Rog looks a little ragged but, he still goes all in when he maybe shouldn't...and pulls it off, although sometimes not so clean.
He got a tuck no hander, but no combo on the second last. Either way, I think its refreshing to have someone who's not 100% dialed at every trick like rheeder and semenuk, but willing to lay it on the line. Obviously brandon is the most well rounded bike rider of the three, but I think Rogatkin has his place amoung them as the few who dominate.
If he had pulled that oppo 7 clean I think he would have taken it. That run was so varied and packed, the judges were just heavily favouring clean landings over big tricks.
Earlier in the contest I was wondering with all the oppo stuff going on how long it would take for someone to do an opp cork 7.... welp... there ya go. He's insane if that was really his first attempt at it.
He had one or two other bobble landings during his 2nd run besides that, so that probably didn't help either. Same with Nicholai. So it shows more why Brandon one. Not to downplay anyone, just saying. It's gonna be an exciting year.
Rheeder miss one foot twice-on a flip doulewhip and oppo cork7.So thats why score is so low,not about clean landings (rogatkin pedalling 3.5 times more than Sem/Rheeder, that's doesn't count heavily like many think)
I'm always surprised how much they spend on marketing instead of actually pumping up the quality and becoming a real competitor of GoPro. Come on, it's Sony, we know they can make great cameras. this one just simply doesn't have it.
OOHHHHH! Now that I've seen it from his POV I think I can do that same run too. Just wasn't sure how to do that one part. Now it all makes sense. I'll probably nail it at whistler this August. May throw in a cork 7 one way then the other with 7 bar spins all off the same lip. My signature move. The 777. Easy!
Rheeder should have gotten second place, not third. His final landing had a bit of a bobble. Nicholi just about crashed on the last jump, and landed sketchy on a number of features.
Just gonna say it, rheeders my fav to watch, hes super exciting in terms of pushing his and the sports limits. And hes not a robot, cant wait to see how this season unfolds.
Nice!! this kind of videos is obligatory for all the riders!! I am sure one day we will be available to see the Action Cam run in a small part of the display into the live transmission!
I fear the genius of Rheeders runs gets a bit lost during judging (no discredit to the judges intended). You need to pay very close attention to which direction he is spinning or whipping. While it may look like he is repeating a few tricks during his runs, he actually does them both ways.
Maybe a minority opinion, but oppo stuff is overrated. It's clearly easier for some dudes than others—like some people are naturally more ambidextrous.
I like Rheeder a lot—I think he's a class act, but tbh I'm glad he didn't win for this run. 1080 and 7-bar are so much gnarlier to me than just the same trick, spun the way that a bunch of other dudes do it naturally.
@steezysam I understand your point, but just because it's easier for one person does not mean it should go unrewarded. Opposite tricks might come easier to him because he is naturally ambidextrous, or because he works his arse off to do what he and many others in the same comp does/do. I'm not disputing the judging by any means. I just thought I'd share a thought.
I think rheeder should of won. those opposite combos are crazy. I think his run was better. Maybe if brandon got the bar on the flip whip it would be closer
So it shows more why Brandon one.

But man, how can you say that when Nicholai threw down a 1080? and brandon did a 720 cork.. with a barspin.
They both had so much on rheeder
