by Pinkbike Staff
With the weather coming in, Enduro World Series organisers were forced to make a tough call regarding racing and sent the following notice out to all riders today:

To All Riders, follows the new schedule for the next days.

Friday 2nd October:
Following a long day of checking the weather forecasts, the organisation have been forced, due to safety reasons, to CLOSE ALL STAGES on Friday 2nd October.

Saturday 3rd October:
Two options:

Plan A (good weather) - Racing will commence as normal, Stages 1-4 will open for competition
Plan B (bad weather) - Stage 2 will be cancelled and Stages 1,3,4 will be opened for competition

We will confirm either Plan A or Plan B at the scheduled rider’s briefing on Friday at 18:30.

We will post further updates as they come to hand.

The town of Varigotti comes at you fast when you reach the end of stage four.

Things are not looking this dry or dusty currently...

i think a showing of the famous danny hart/champery run is in order for the lot of em? bit of bad weather dont even stop the roadies from doing their thing!!!

Their is a fine line between all us mountain bikers being fearless and having proper respect for mother nature

The average pro road racer is a lot harder than most MTB racers. Try eating shit at 40mph+ with no pads, then getting back on your bike and continuing on as if nothing happened. For another two or three weeks.

I can't understan why my previous comment is hidden, could someone explain how this works. The question posed seemed fairly reasonable even if I had had one or two too many last night. Surely it was not that divisive that it has been censored. If that is the case that's not very good is it.

@LeDuke- Imagine if pro MTB riders got paid what Pro Tour riders get paid

@FarmerJohn If you are suggesting roadies make a lot of money, then I suggest you research what the average Pro Tour rider makes. One book that provides some insight is Phil Gaimon's "Pro Cycling on $10 a Day." Is there bias? Probably. But it opens your eyes to the real pro cycling.

Road racers, in general, make a hell of a lot more money than MTB racers. Support riders make more than top-10 DH pros.

With sustained winds over 30 mph and gusts over 50 that is probably the bigger issue.
  • 12 2
If you've ever tried riding in 30+mph wind then you wouldn't have an issue with their decision.

Wow if I didn't ride just because it was wet and windy I'd hardly ride at all!
  • 4 1
True indeed. If I didn't ride in wind and rain I wouldn't have ridden more than 3 times this year!

30mph+ winds are the norm for 9-10 months of british weather

get your brain on or go to school ....its about saftey for marshalls, rescue teams and so on .....

Looks like the driest race of the year has been in......... IRELAND!!! Whata Country!
  • 3 1
Not riding because its wet and windy?! Ha. That would rule us Brits out 3/4 of the year.
There is a huge market here for waterproof shorts and jackets. Perhaps some could be shipped over?
Man up folks, the winds not that strong and rains just rain!

I just rode stage 1 & 2 yesterday. Stage 4 you see a helmet camera footage on this page. Stage 4 is very exposed - so that is not the reason. The questionable stage 2 is in the forest under big trees. And if I look outside right now I see too many fallen branches on the ground. So my guess is the will cancel Stage 2 because of that, when the winds are too strong. My 2 cents.
Good luck to all the riders!

Makes sense really- they have to be able to airlift an injured rider off course if needed and other medical/tech support response teams would be delayed or grounded

been to finale in the wind and rain before, if stage 2 is up by the old Nato station then it's very exposed. definitely would be a challenge. Does this mean some racers are now going to ride stages blind? bring it on!

are they riding top of the range mountain bikes in the Enduro World Series or Pinatas at 4yr olds princess themed birthday party? Honestly put a freaking jacket on and get on with it.
