Watching Kirt always makes me want to go out and ride more. Even after all of these years he still comes up with new tricks/moves to show us what riding is all about: fun.
Compared to Kirt, I'm a serious noob. I said hello to Kirt at two different OES events and ended up having small conversations where I find Kirt is not just full of life, but he is also entertaining and very funny. Hope to make it to OES Aug 27-28 on Mt. Bachelor to see some of the Bend folk I've not seen for a while!
The park is fun as hell. You wouldn't get a boatload of people and pros go week after week, including Gwin and Strait when they are off, if it wasn't a ton of fun.
@Rubberelli: thats because its the only park for 35 millon people in socal to go to. I know people get mad when others speak their mind about snow sumitt but there are alot of people including me that don;t like many things about it and choose to spend their money else where. I've lived there and utah for many years. The bike parks are better in utah but you have the mormons to deal with... so there is no perfect place... just saying
@jarrod801: I've overall found Mormons to be very easy to deal with. Pleasant. Even if their religion is totally nuts.
But if we're making generalizations here...people in Southern California (especially in Orange County) are way, way worse humans than Utah Mormons!!! This from an Atheist Californian. Cheers!
@jarrod801: i would argue that snow summit was a better bike park before they re-opened the alpine slopes about 4 years ago. those off campus trails were sick. now we can't ride a few of them like upper fall line.
@jarrod801: But there are a ton of DH and AM options in Southern CA they could be shuttling nstead, and indeed they do... once SS closes. In fact, DH trails are mostly empty all the time during the summer and then get piled with riders in Winter.
@pancakeflatted: In general they are pleasent. In daily tasks ( night life, work, culture, ect) NO!! I try to be positive and give place a chance because the outdoors are amazing but I am moving on. looking into the PNW.
@BDKR: Not anymore. Going Green opened this summer as a top to bottom beginner trail. They have an intermediate one going in now. There has always been mild xc to the right and left of the lifts, but most people don't ride them because there is not big signs and difficulty ratings since it is off SS property.. However, SS always maintained an info booth at the top where they would hand out maps to them. People aren't smart enough to ask though.
@Beanburnham: I was at Punk Fest ('94 I think) in San Bernardino where they started a riot by throwing shit at security, ending in the cops coming in full riot gear gassing us.
@Voreis is a all time dude.. watched him limp around with his bum ankle at a new local bike park he designed helping water and work his ass off.. thanx for what you do man, keeping it real. stoked to have him in Bend..
Kirt could teach a monkey to shred a bike!! He is hands down the best ambassador for a brand. Take note corporate bike world, this man inspires us all to ride our bike's. You wanna sell bikes get behind Kirt. His knowledge of our sport is over flowing. Go follow his Instagram trik_mountain_bike_skills not only does he make the sickest edits he's a world class coach. Kirt for President - Crash
I was just as shocked as you! I would have thought Specialized would have gave him some props with a goodbye mention for all those "Years of service"..But guess not. Kinda shows me Canyon is coming to the U.S.
@Voreis: Sweet riding! Could you please fill a guy in on how to get into those nose manuals on the top of the lip?? Really like to learn how to do those..
@bohns1: Roll your wrist forward as you push bars away from chest while pointing your toes as you scoop your pedals back and up with knees bent and arms straight into bucking bronco position, then bonk!! Good luck with the timing, Haha. Start slow, watch a Semenuk vid over and over again!
@likeittacky: Yeah, for real, I could grab a few different bikes to ride but I really wanted to see how that one rode. After riding it, and no bike sponsor, it did cross my mind that if I shred it they will come! Haha
@Voreis: The riding was amazing as always! Thanks for the edit. Shocked to hear you have no bike sponsor at the moment...though doubt that will last long.
@Voreis: Man, you rock. This is the only sport in the world where big stars associate with the lowly fans :-) Can you imagine Kobe Bryant commenting on thread online about him?
i met kirt in like 2004 on my local dh trails and he offered to let me tag along on some shuttle runs with him in the back of an old single cab toyota pick up back when he was still racing dh. it was incredible watching him ride and being able to follow his lines. an experience i will never forget! you're the man kirt!
