Evolution Premiere in San Diego Evolution Premiere in San Diego
Solidfoto.com and Matt Collins are proud to present a screening of Evolution at the Martini Ranch located at 528 F St in San Diego, California. Fresh off a respectable 5th place finish at the Red Bull Freezride, Kirt Vories will be attending along with Haro honch Mike King. If the footage of Kirt is anything like the riding he did at Big Mountain last week, this promises to be a killer vid. Sorry, but you've got to be 21 or over to enter. Visit Solidfoto.com for more information.

Ibis Files for Bankruptcy Ibis Files for Bankruptcy
Ibis Bicycles, builder of high end titanium and steel frames since 1981, filed for Bankruptcy last week. The builder recently moved from their longtime home of Sonoma, California to Bozeman, Montana in an effort to reduce costs and provide their employees higher quality of life. Scot Nicol, the company's founder, left the company last year after being bought out by a group of investors. In addition to their beautiful bikes, Ibis will likey be remembered for their tongue-in-cheek marketing approach with names like "moron" tubing (ie More on the Ends) and "hand job" Brake hangers (hand shaped). This is probably the last you will see of Ibis, as they have filed for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy.

Lopes Promo Video Online Lopes Promo Video Online
California boy and World Dual Champion, Brian Lopes has put together a promotional video with the help of Sprung Productions. It features some great racing footage, Motocross and gnarly freeriding "California" style. In my humble opinion, it is a little heavy on the ego factor, but I guess you have to be confident to win. Check it out here and catch Brian in the new 4-X format at the Sea Otter Classic.

Norco's Answer to Air Norco's Answer to Air
For those of us tired of bustin’ up unsuitable lightweight (and expensive) components, Norco has updated and expanded it's lineage of Super Cross bikes for 2002, producing rigs that are specifically engineered to handle the punishment that dirt jumping and urban can dole out.

The bikes are designed to be beefy and not weight conscious, with specially gusseted geometrically correct frames complete with BMX standard bottom bracket housings, three-piece cromo cranks, and oversized bar and stems they are set up for big air.

The line up includes the One 25, the Two 50 and the 4 Hun all of which are complete with a dirt jumping Marzocchi fork, except the One 25 that shows up with a Rock Shox Judy TT. Component versatility exists throughout the line, with mounts for any brake system and the acceptance of either 24 or 26 inch wheels. For a full suspension dual slalom machine, Norco coughs up the VPS 4 by 4 that utilizes their four-bar linkage.

Priced fully assembled, the line starts with the One 25 at $959 Canadian, suggested retail.

Check out the 2002 Norco Super Cross line.

White Lightning Products Tested White Lightning Products Tested
Lube... your bike won't work for long without it, but it could very well be the most taken for granted product on the market. Most of the folks I ride with don't give the viscous fluid a second thought as they apply it to the drivetrain of their precious $5000 bikes. In this neck of the woods, lube choice is much less critical than the hot dusty terrain of SoCal, or wet, slimy soup of the shore. That doesn't make me any less picky about what I run on my babies.

Round 3 of the UFC is Up Round 3 of the UFC is Up
Round Three of Race Face's Ultimate Freeride Challenge is under way and Thomas Vanderham has advanced from last week's voting. This week's list has some well known riders like the Superheros, and NSX 5's "Super T" Tyler Klassen, as well as the Cove Bike Shop's Dirty Girls and Calgary's own Ian Burgess. Some stellar riding balanced with some serious comedy. This is all good stuff. Vanderham is up against fellow Vancouver local, Cory Leclerc for the semi-final. Remember you have just one week to cast your vote. Here's your one chance to tell Race Face where they put their marketing dollars!

Red Bull Freezride Wrapup Red Bull Freezride Wrapup
I really should have had this to you on Tuesday, but once I got writing I realized just how much content (some may call it fluff) I had from my week in Montana. All competitors, locals and pros alike put on an unbelievable show for everyone who attended the event. With the likes of Christian Pondella, John Gibson, Derek Westerlund and Aaron Teasdale in attendance, I'm sure you will be seeing footage from the event for months to come.

Avro rim deals Avro rim deals
Avro Rims are clearing out a bunch of rims. These are DH and Winter Cycling rims that have welded rim joints. New production have bonded rim joints. It is just a change in the technology used to produce rims. Both types are equally strong at the joint. It is just that we don't want to ship some of these and some of those. At retail we are selling them at $45 USD instead of $70 USD. A good opportunity to pick up a deal. Quantities are limited.

Go to the Avro website for more info.

Red Bull Freezride Results Red Bull Freezride Results
The Red Bull Freezride finished today at Big Mountain Resort in Whitefish Montana. Riders really stepped it up and everyone in attendance was awestruck by the evolution over the weekend. Unfortunately due to an extremely slow connection, I am unable to share the weekend's photos. Look for them here tomorrow afternoon. You won't be disappointed. I'm just gonna share the top 5 with you today, but stay tuned for a play by play from the weekend's festivities and the rider's thoughts from the event. Results are as follows:

1. Timo Pritzel
2. Randy Spangler
3. Kyle Strait
4. Gareth Dyer (and my Monster T)
5. Kurt Vories

Let me leave you with this thought while I try my best to catch up with both my thoughts and my sleep. This has to be the coolest bike event I have ever been a part of. Both the riders and Red Bull put on one hell of a show! I promise to get the photos to you by Tuesday, trust me it's worth the wait!

Red Bull Freezride Practise Starts Today Red Bull Freezride Practise Starts Today
After one long strenuous week of frantic preparation, the Red Bull Freezride Course is ready to ride at Big Mountain in Whitefish Montana. The course is littered with great features like a diving board, teeters, huge gap jumps, gi-normous berms, skinnies, a gondola, hip jumps, doubles, wall rides, and a bus with some big hucks thrown in for good measure. Emphasis will be on style and flow rather than who can go the biggest. Look for riders like Mike Kinrade, Dylan Tremblay and Darren Butler to rip it up alongside Kurt Voreis, Chris O'Driscoll, Kyle Strait and Gareth Dyer. We'll try our best to keep you in the loop with photos and updates over the weekend. Check back tonight for practise day photos and the inside word. If you're within driving distance this holiday weekend you should be in Whitefish. Check it out!

Sun Peaks to Host Nationals (again) Sun Peaks to Host Nationals (again)
The good folks over at Sun Peaks along with Brad and Henry from Java Cycle will again be hosting the Tim Horton Nationals on July 19, 20 and 21, 2002. After the huge success of last year's back to back Nationals/Finals weekends, Sun Peaks was the natural choice for 2002. The technically challenging XC and DH courses were competitor favorites, and the on site facilities are world class. The event will be part of the week long Canadian Mountainbike Festival that includes downhill clinics, dirt jump competition and mountainbike camps. Visit Sun Peaks' Website or www.canadian-cycling.com for more information.

Long Term Test: Rocky Mountain RM7 Long Term Test: Rocky Mountain RM7
Back in June of 2001, Kevan at The Bike Shop gave me an RM7 to ride. He said to me, “Treat it like it’s yours and go have some fun!” What he may not have realized was that I really like to abuse my stuff and that is what I do for fun.The fun started that very day on a machine shop roof next to a near flat landing. I had a few crazy things go through my mind during my short stay on the 12 foot high roof: Can I handle such a big bike? Will it break? Will it suit my riding style? What am I doing up here? Does it like to fly? Did I leave the toaster on?
