The 2023 Big Mountain Enduro Season is wrapping up this weekend in Big Sky, Montana, but before the season ends, we wanted to get racers hyped for 2024 by announcing the schedule early so plans can be made for next summer!

On Friday afternoon, Big Mountain Enduro went live once again on our growing YouTube channel to talk about the season and the highs and lows, but mostly BME went live to share the season lineup for 2024.

You can watch the live feed on the official Big Mountain Enduro YouTube channel to find out where we will take you next summer!

BME is stoked to announce that we will return to Mt. Nebo, Arkansas, and then head to Rock Creek in North Carolina, where the 2023 Mountain Bike National Championships took place earlier this year. Then BME will head west back to the popular Sunrise Resort, Arizona; from there, we will head to a to-be-determined venue in Colorado and then our home mountain Brian Head Utah. Tamarack, near McCall, Idaho, will be home for the BME finals in 2024!

Honest question...I'm not trying to be shitty...why is registration for this event so expensive? Discounted price a year in advance is $250 per race?! I'd be keen to race, but the price has me thinking twice.

Because if you are fast enough you have the chance of winning a SET of 26 IRC tires, or anodized bar ends.

It looks like they're expanding, and maybe working towards becoming a national series. Rather than a regional, or local, which does up the logistics cost a ton. That's just my best guess though. I agree, I'm old, and just race for fun, so anything over $100 better be something amazing.

You may also be surprised to find that the $250 entry does not cover lift tickets at sone venues either, so that $250 becomes a quick $350.

Went to one this year, 10 of 10 will never go back to this series. Falsely advertised, poorly taped, mis-marked stages, and may the higher powers have mercy on the amateurs. Macho bro down for sure, not good racing. In fact the announcers even referred to the pro women as “guys” multiple times at roll out.

That’s my opinion, curious what the 38% of racers who did not finish think about it though.

@morse-ah: i’m gonna assume you went to brian head. That was by far the worst BME i’ve ever done. there was literally no stage start/finish markers and the taping wasn’t complete by practice day 1.

These races are also forced 2 day 8 stage races- we raced the same tracks multiple times at every BME i went too. I raced 4/5 this year. i think they are trying to hard to make it “big mountain enduro” and all the races would have been better as 1 day 5 stage races. They are super fun races and have the best competition in the united states, but there is definitely some room for improvement.

@morse-ah: called the women guys in a general sort of way?!? That is truly horrific, possibly a hate crime. Maybe worse. They should be tried at The Hague for crimes against humankind

And they don’t even give out a free beer ticket any more. Total scam!

Come up for the Canada Cup races. WAY cheaper than either of the series posted in this thread.

@morse-ah: apart from Brian head (which wasn’t that bad, just look at the signs) bme does a pretty good job with taping compared to most if not all races I’ve done (naec, rev, natl champs). Keep in mind the bme operation is small. I do agree with the cost bit tho

You’re not being shitty 250$ entry fee is friggin comical

Because of the sue everyone for everything culture in the US, liability makes sh!t expensive

For $250 I’d love to see them give back to the local trail building community, but the years they came to the San Juans never saw that. It then switched to 100% bike park race after. Not my style.

@rad8: did you type this reply from 1988? lol

while we are litigious(so is Canada, eh..), liabilty waivers and the law surrounding it, have drastically tightened up in the last couple decades. If you break yourself at a bike park here, you are on your own unless it can be shown the park/org. was expressly liable(read also: an employee ran you over with a Gator side by side, or a lift tower fell on you from improper maintainence) for your injury

 @Brandon-mtb167: hilarious, actually wasn’t Brianhead.

@VelkePivo: get woke, go with folk. Or apply for a job working with BME.

@morse-ah: 95% of the time BME has there shit together. If it's a mess up then it's probably something to do with the venue. Went in 2022 and the venue (Durango) was a complete piece of shit to me and family, the BME staff was great to us though. We go to EDR, Crankworx, World cups, etc... and sometimes it's the venue and not the promoter.

I would think if they aren't going back in 2024 it's probably a sign the venue was a pain in the ass and made them look bad. Hence why they are making a change so people like you don't have a bad experience.

oh yeah, and most venues do not allow camping / sleeping on the lot. So $250 turns into $3,500 by the time you take days off of work, pay for hotels, transportation and food.

@frenchlinesandfrenchfries: I camped at every venue for 2023 expect for Big Sky and Purg. Those two I had to camp just down the the street basically.

I know it was a major topic for the 2024 season to have all of them with camping on site. I think with the venue changes it should be happening.

Cost less, better courses, much better rider support.

BME has become Big Money Event.

Wish it was still the good ole Big Monster Erection, no longer gets me that excited Frown
  • 4 1
Rev has worse course taping tho
  • 4 0
Rev costs $275 fro two day races.
  • 13 1
Shouldn't the mountain be big for it to be a Big Mountain Enduro?
  • 1 0
Ask anyone who raced when they had it at Shepherd Mtn (previous ownership) if the trails were proper enough...
  • 1 0
@ksilvey10: I didn't intend to imply the trails weren't proper, I'm just not sure it's a Big Mountain Enduro if it's not a big mountain.
  • 1 0
@mcleodpulaski: If you ride up it enough laps it feels big
  • 1 0
@ksilvey10: I've been using that tactic a lot myself.

How do you expect a young person to do one race, much less an entire season? I understand if you're not getting rich off putting these on and at the end of the day you have to profit to keep it alive but Im pretty skeptical this is the way to do so.

Traveled to CO from the east coast for the Purgatory race expecting 2 long days, big backcountry stages and overall a "Big Mountain" experience as advertised. Instead It was 2 days of lift access bike park stages with repeated stages and sections across both days. Paid entry fee and lift tickets for 2 days of practice. Ended up dropping out at the end of practice due to a crash, wonky fork damper (hack rebuild, my fault) and general lack of stoke. Apparently there were issues getting permitting for the backcountry stages, people complained about distance or whatever. I ended up using the 2 days to ride up in the high country and do the real Big Mountain riding I was expecting.

$250 is about what a (hurr) EDR elite entry costs for reference.

 No more big sky. Weird.
  • 2 0
Yeah but they got Tamarack instead which should be….laughable.

Been wanting to check out one of these races but also had sticker shock. After hearing how many people don’t like the format/organization I will save my $$$ and stick w/ the California Enduro Series. They are great. Professional, low key, fun & about 1/2 of BME I think.

CES has its issues too! the Shasta race is a god damn joke of infinite sadness, and the mexico race blows too. Ashland, China Peak are stellar. thats it. this years N* race is horseshit with no Boondocks and a bunch of repeat shit.
  • 1 0
@Mtbdialed: I liked the Mexico "race" just not the transfer up a waterfall but Big Lou is doing good stuff. Love going to new venues
  • 5 0
 Rock Creek- small mountain enduro
  • 1 0
$250 to $290 is a big ask. It creates a barrier to entry that all but eliminates grass roots and privateer efforts.
