The results are in from the 2024 European XC Championships in Cheile Gradistei, Romania.

In the Elite Women's race, Puck Pieterse secured the title for another year as she powered through the mud. Mona Mitterwallner also matched her 2023 results ending the race 1:12 back in 2nd. Nina Benz completed the top three over two minutes off the pace.

Simone Avodetto is this year's elite men's champion as he made the most of a mechanical for Simon Andreassen to take the lead and cross the line 50 seconds ahead. Andreassen was strong in the early stages of the race but after a mechanical, he had to settle for second place ahead of Julian Schelb in third.

Euro techno aside, this was the best xco coverage all year. It showed various positions in the race and showed most of the finishers crossing the line. The best bit though, no shoddy drone coverage.

Anyway to get pinkbike to cover the results of the Pan Am games? They claim to be XC around here.

Still wondering, does this imply that Pauline gets to wear the championship jersey at the XCC races and Puck at the XCO races or do they both get to wear the jerseys at both XCO as well as XCC WC events?

It's two different disciplines, so Puck at xco and PFP at xccSmile

@shreditlikeitshot: Yeah my original question (when PFP won the XCC title) included the bit where I mentioned that points won in XCC also count towards the XCO competition so there is a bit of a funny interrelation between the two. Hence my question. But if it is like you say, thanks for clearing it up for me!

PFP wears the World Champion jersey.

@jjamms: That's also true and will only change if she loses the title after the upcoming worlds or if she takes the leader jersey, is that correct? Does she only carry the title for XCO or also for XCC?

The existence of XCC alongside XCO where points won in XCC count for the XCO overall confuses me.

@vinay: The combination of points is only for the World Cup overall... The World Championships are 2 totally separate disciplines and the rainbow jerseys are only valid in their discipline.

@vinay: World Cup and National/Euro/PanAm/World Championships are unrelated classifications.

@opignonlibre, @billreilly: Ok, thanks all for clearing that up.

I guess finishing the race Pauline decided it would take far too much energy from her Olympic dreams.

So why did she stop on lap 4? Technical or she was just not in the game for victory?

Pauline crashed two times and abandoned. Also: probably the worst attitude by a professional athlete that I was ever able to witness live. Eyes rolling all the time and not even a shade of a smile, even while fans were cheering when hearing her name. She pretty much didn't spend time with the french team and the Ineos team truck was tucked away. I honestly can't comprehend how someone can be like this.... Puck Pieterse not only outclassed her in the main race, but she outclasses her all day every day in the more important competition of life: being a human. Take into consideration that I didn't have any particular fondness towards any of them before these race, but I was able to see some things as they happened in the last week. Now I just clicked the follow button on Puck's IG and I wonder how Pauline got at this point in her life behaving like that.

@Maxipedia: thanks. I can really well imagine what you are describing.

@fautquecaswing: Such a pity, man! Conditions were dreadful, 1 degree and almost snowing at one point, but we still had people on track, XC kids and their parents cheering and a lot of people showing up regardless.

Being a local, I am really REALLY proud of all these people and everybody else involved pretty much. And of course of the racers who soldiered on this Sunday. Nothing but respect for them!

@Maxipedia: In a Red Bull TV interview, by Rob Warner, PFP said that as a child she threw away the runners up trophy she got after her first race!
