@Lagr1980: Yeah if you think about this season he always was on pace... in chile until he had a flat, in la thuile until he smashed his wheel and in whistler until he flatted again... the only unaffected bad result was colombia.
Yeti finally built an EWS worthy 29er for Rude. The 5.5 is one hell of a trail bike, but not near setup for these tracks like the 150, IMHO. Rude’s got three wins on the new rig, seems like it suits him well. It seems 29ers with the right geometry are a good match for his style after all.
What an epic spot to ride and or vacation. Congrats to Rudeboy back on top. Maes is coming on mega strong but Hill would have to have epic fail the next round. Plus Maes would have to finish 2nd which is likely. The final results might look just like this round. Good on Hill moving up 10 spots to protect his points lead.
@Trailstunter: the message is this: people are assuming that Martin gave up time and race positions to help Sam. The fact is that yes Martin helped Sam but it was on an untimed transfer stage, which had no bearing on race results. Richie won, Martin got second - fair and square.
looks like hill has the series pretty well wrapped up. if Martin wins the final round hill only has to get 46th place to take the series by a 5 point margin. but if hill has trouble and gets a DNF then martin only has to get second to take it by 10 points. Oton is out for the title but could still move up to second as it is tight with maes.
Yes we all know Martin helped Sam. Yes it was on a transfer stage. The time didn’t matter. I’m just curious, does anyone think that Sam would have been in trouble if making the cutoff if Martin didn’t help. Either way still awesome to see these competitors having great sportsmanship
So Maes ist that close to Sam with missing one race? He never scored lower than 420 points per race. Beast! EWS champ 2019. And DH World Champ. Maybe next POTUS?
What a fantastic weekend!! Got some great pics and met some really nice people. We live in Ainsa so we know the trails, but these guys rode them like no one else!
Anyone who watched and was impressed with the trails, the mountains or the views - come and see us. You'll love it :-)
If Martin Maes wins the next race Sam Hill has to finish in 37th for them to be on joint points, and if EWS applies the same rule as many other sports whereby the number of first places come into play with 4 wins it'l be Sam Hill's. He could of course place 36th or better and its his
@mrsmythe: Our rules break any tie by awarding the win to the rider who finished with the highest position in the last race. If in the incredibly unlikely event that the riders tied in time in the last race, the highest last Special Stage will be taken, if that's a tie too, we go to second last stage, so on and so on.
Only that far back after a puncture is pretty damn good. Of note maes helped during a transfer not the race, apparently. Shows how good Rude was this race.
@Trailstunter: happened in practice on a drop that all the racer hit that day. Its racing crashes and injuries happen. Part of racing. Could say the same thing about Maes being lucky Hill flatted yesterday.
@Fix-the-Spade: yes he got a flat and he still did very well by most people's standards but his other stage results weren't at his usual standards either, though he was probably taking it a little easy
@Clifflane3: hill would never got the time back he lost in stage one, so BS. And he only lost a few points, not a race. Hill got lucky Maes helped him with repairs.
They changed the course after Maes fell, all were crashing there...
@Trailstunter: @Trailstunter: you oppearte pretty loose with facts don't you? They didnt alter or change the track in Colombia because of Martin crashing. The heavy rain the night before the race ruined the climb up to that stage, and it went through private property on a botanical garden that would have been too heavily damaged. Additionally the race day was going to be extra hard and long in those conditions that one stage was cancelled, which only by coincidence is the one Martin crashed on.
As for Martin Helping Sam, it was more a gesture of comradery and sportamanship than anything else. They had more than enough time to make it to the next stage and Martin could have left Sam on his own and both would have been just fine.
These are facts... But will you say that since I am arguing with you an telling you that you are doing nothing but making up rumors that I am discrediting myelf? like you have on another thread you are also currently cluttering with nonsense?
@Trailstunter: @Trailstunter: even if Martin raced and won in Colombia, Sam would still be leading. Even a half decent result in Finale will see Sam end the year with a bigger gap over Martin than could be made up in a single race... So Sam could miss a round as well and still have won.
Facts... They are important to know before making bold claims ;-)
in my opinion RUDE and EWS Anisa was overshadowed by how sportsmanship was displayed in MTB . athlete helping another athlete to compete in the highest level? that's why I love MTBking as a sport in general. XC,DH, Enduro, 4x, pump track or whatsoever, there should be a trail/ or a world series that would have all disciplines needed.. climbing and descending with berms and rhythm sections plus jumplines....now im dreaming.
How is ~40 minutes or racing over a weekend considered enduro? What is the minimum time required per regulations? For example in cyclocross, as I understand, the Women's races shall be 40 minutes min.
That's 40 minutes of timed descending. The race is an entire day when you factor in liasons, shuttles, etc. I think each day was around 20-30 miles and over 5000 feet of climbing on the bike. So while it's not as much as an all-day epic ride, it's quite a bit of riding, and when they are descending it's all-out. Not easy.
Not discrediting his sportsmanship but it didn't count against his race time.
We live in Ainsa so we know the trails, but these guys rode them like no one else!

Really !
Otherwise it would have been a total different score now
