At Sea Otter this week, Fox is showing off a new Proframe helmet, intended for release this fall and called the Proframe RS. RS, as we learned only after running through a long list of possibilities like 'Reduced Styrofoam' and 'Radically Sweet,' stands for Race Spec.

The helmet uses a Fidlock closure, MIPS Integra - a low profile variation of MIPS - and a 360-degree BOA closure and adjustment system. While the current Proframe weighs 750g in size medium, the Proframe RS gains 70g in robust protection and adjustability to weigh in at a claimed 820g in size medium. The large size weighs in at 910g, while Fox claims a paltry 710g for the small.

A Boa closure means that the Proframe RS is more adjustable than most full face helmets.

Adding to the features, there's also a GoPro mount that comes stock on the helmets, so despite its still-light weight, Fox isn't shaving any and all grams on this model.

It comes with a GoPro mount on the now-adjustable visor. And those coordinates? Those'll take you to the Fox HQ in California.

More information will become available as the launch date approaches, but the Proframe RS is due to become available this fall for $350 USD.

Finally an adjustable visor on the ProFrame. Looking forward to this one although I hope I won't have to replace my current one for a while...

Crap! I JUST threw out all my neon green gear from 10 years ago! Dammit!

@scary1: We'll have no matching colours here please, clashing colour schemes only...

 Sweet! Power Ranger colors collection.

 The colours are fucking hideous.

BOA? What was wrong with lashing my helmet to my head with laces fox?

Hope it’s a bit stronger than the last one too , cracked the jaw in half on mine
  • 9 0
Did you crack it by crashing by any chance?
  • 3 0
Yes it did ! Not much of a crash though @sagec:

I cracked mine too, but I still have all my teeth so it's all good...

The jaw on mine failed when taking it off one handed. Wasn't rough with it, I suspect material fatigue. It would be nice to see Fox offer some sort of discount/crash replacement to existing customers.

 @pockets-the-coyote:
They do! At least they did for me. Had a bad crash broke the visor, dented it from the outside, and the foam at the impact site was cracked. Just call them direct.

This looks great. I love the current model. It breathes as well as many half shells, if not better. Adjustable visor and updated looks are a plus. Just wish it would be available for race season.

Solid improvements on the current model. Good job Fox!.. Im sure it will come in solid black.. The Boa system and the adjustable visor will fix the two main gripes I have with my current Proframe so thumbs up!

Can't wait for it to be available after I've done all my park riding this summer

'Race spec'. I assume this means it has all the (DH) certifications? Because the text above doesn't mention any.

 Good point

I guess not, but to me it seems like the BOA, being fixed to the frame in the back, would limit the movement of the Mips system?
  • 1 0
The Boa dial is fixed to the frame, the system 'laces' are fixed to the liner.

I like my current “regular” Proframe, but this looks like a good upgrade.

MIPS Integra: better than basic MIPS, but lesser than SPHERICAL. Is that Correct? Either way, it's a step up from the last version of the helmet.
  • 1 0
actually, I saw the MIPS Integra and had Spherical on one of my older helmets - when you look at it, it looks the same, just that yellow anchors are a bit different ... with Integra, they are circular rubber thingis as in Spherical, it's the yellow rubber bands.
  • 1 0
@Yurifi: Ah, interesting. Looks a lot different than my spherical. Perhaps various brands can make variations on the style? But again, Integra looks better than regular mips for sure!

Would prefer to have an integrated GoPro mount on the chin. No great solution for that yet.

There are 3d printed options for the actual proframe. Buy mine at www.r3pro.co.uk but you still have to use zipties...

too many health and safety issue with that. None of helmet companies recommend it.

A retention system! Can’t wait, so stupid when brands put a bunch of different size pads in box for sizing. And that mips invention looks cool.

Love my Proframe and this looks like a solid upgrade. Not so sure about the colour schemes though!
  • 2 0
At least they stayed in the lines when colouring with the highlighter

 Royally Screwed
  • 2 1
Why would you want to make the helmet heavier
  • 1 0
 Is the forehead pad improved?
  • 1 0
I want all the upgraded features, but in matte black.
  • 1 0
Love those colours cuz they are pissing everyone else around Big Grin
