Brandon Semenuk is without a doubt the most versatile and naturally talented rider to ever ride a mountain bike

Nope. He is the best Slopestyle rider ever, that's it. Kyle Strait is far more versatile.
  • 43 14
You forgot Jared Graves as well.
  • 81 2
How so? Nothin against Kyle, but besides rampage what else does he win? (Obviously the hottest fiancé award too)
  • 44 12
I wouldn't be an American without saying Gwin is the best

Strait raced World Cups, got 3rd and 4th in Jr World Champs. He's won Rampage twice. How's Semenuk is versatile?
Gracia was/is more versatile.
  • 16 3
Semenuk is actually pretty fast. He may not race, but there's a vital one lap of him keeping up with a world cup racer and another pro.
  • 19 4
@MmmBones, again, Semenuk won Rampage AND slope style events... As in he was numero uno in different disciplines of riding. Kyle won Rampage, nothing else. So Semenuk wins the "more versatile" argument.
  • 28 0
But can they drift like Kovarik?
  • 19 3
In terms of versatility, although Graves wins points for most versatile racer (4x, enduro, xc, dh and so on...) I think Semenuk takes it because who else on the above list is fast AND has the world of slopestyle DJ and freeride on tap? Gwin (to my knowledge) hasn't proved himself in the mtb world in anything other than DH (where he's a *nearly blasphemes* legend) and Strait neither has Semenuk's bag of tricks nor is necessarily as quick - Junior WC was a while ago, although he did do well at a slalom? recently. Semenuk looks very very quick, and I want to see him race. Yours sincerely, pinkbike's resident armchair judge. Also, Kovarik wins drift of the year award.
  • 8 2
@MmmBones just because Brandon doesn't race doesn't mean he's not capable of it. You have no idea how fast he is on a bike. Sometimes multi talented people choose to focus on the discipline that makes them happiest
  • 4 4
@MmmBones So what? Nico Vink raced World Cup and Fairclough did rampage too. And they both did quite well in a different discipline. But none of these matter, cause a 4 time crankworx winner with a rampage title proved that Semenuk is the best rider on this planet.
  • 6 1
Personally, in terms of a mixture of pure bike control and style, I think Brandon wins. But not like he cares, as with any of the other pros. They may appreciate the compliments, but at the end of the day they're all just damn good riders.
  • 7 2
^ We need top trumps cards
  • 12 4
... and all you motherfuckers have forgotten about Cedric, just like Dre.
  • 13 1
where do you put chris akkrig? talented, versatile and out of this world bike control
  • 4 3
Martin Söderström shares this title with Semenuk. Slopestyle, Rampage, DH-&Enduroedit's, Streetskills...
  • 9 1
My vote goes to Chris Akrigg. Doesn't need to prove anything. Just watch him ride... any kind of bike.
  • 2 1
I guess you got to throw Brian Lopes in there also.
How about Wade Simmons for the people champ?!?!
  • 5 2
The ultimate rider would have the speed of Gwin, style/finess of Semenuk, manliness of Bearclaw, technicality of MacSkill and the flow of Barrel. We could call it a Liger. Its pretty much my favorite animal.
  • 3 1
semenuk is a slope style guy that can ride a dh bike quickly. strait is a freeride guy that can ride a dh bike quickly(wins smaller events all the time). cedric can ride anything truly world cup fast while being able to huck the shit out of stuff too.
  • 1 1
@elong801 those are both slopestyle events, more or less. Lyle has won other non-style contests.
  • 3 2
jesus christ you all think semenuk came out of the woodwork doing slopestyle only. The dude was f*cking raised in BC/squamish and whistler was his f*cking back yard. He used to race when he was younger, he rides his big bike all the damn time. He's not your typical run of the mill dirt jump rat, the kid actually shreds EVERYTHING. We tried to follow him and the party on Schleyer at Whistler and he was f*cking gone. His sponsorship and big money is in slopestyle, it's literally how he makes a living, but the kid freerides as well if not better then a lot of these folks you people are comparing him to.
  • 3 4
@anchoricex So BS is really good in his backyard and he's faster than you. gr8. did he podium at DHI World Champs? No, Strait did. Has BS ever qualified for a world cup? Of course not. He only does style contests.
  • 3 5
@Aaronhuang You missed the point entirely. I said BS is not the most versatile... Doing BMX tricks on huge jumps better than everyone else doesn't make you the "best rider on the planet"
  • 2 1
ok semenuk is faster then the average guy on a bike. id expect him to be.... still doesnt make him the greatest.
  • 3 0
@MmmBones just because Brandon doesn't race doesn't mean he can't. He just doesn't because it's not what he finds fun. Doesn't mean he isn't versatile
  • 1 2
@thook I didn't say he was not versatile and I didn't say he can't race, I said he's not "the most versatile". I'm pretty sure anyone can race if they have the $, bike and helmet.
  • 2 2
Oh ok. Strait definitely is a good racer and freerider. To me at least, if you add it up, strait has slalom, dh and free ride. Semenuk has dh, slopestyle, and free ride. So in a way theyre even
  • 1 6
flag MmmBones (Nov 2, 2015 at 16:30) (Below Threshold)
@thook What are you talking about? Semenuk has no DH credentials. Kyle straight has a 3rd and 4th place finish at WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS.
  • 4 0
No DH credentials? He might not be on the same level as Kyle (I said might, not going to debate this point) but watch the last segment of Strength in Numbers and tell me he can't ride a big bike fast
  • 1 0
 Wikibike Definition Semenuk Precision
  • 6 0
I'm regretting commenting on this because I feel like this will never end.
  • 2 1
Like I said above, semenuk may not race, but that doesn't mean he isn't a beast riding downhill. He holds his own riding with world cup racers.
  • 2 1
or riding on 'rad company' with brendan fairclugh. Semenuk is f*cking fast. (but I recon superman would be faster)
  • 2 0
@thook & @JoseBravo You mean like eating shit trying to follow Brendog in Rad Company?
  • 1 0
Huh? I never mentioned rad company. Never even seen it. We're probably not going to get anywhere with this so I'm fine with agreeing to disagree. They're both brilliant riders. I do suggest you watch his one lap (it's the one with Luca cometti in "Mexico") it definitely surprised me when I first saw it.
  • 8 0
slammed the door on all the trick or treaters the other night because none of those pussies had any mothafuckin DH credentials
  • 1 0
if we're talking about rampage, I'd like to bring up Cam Zink. Not saying he is more versatile than Semenuk, But he is a top rampage contender every year, as well as winning it. He also does slopestyle, and races, for example the nationals at mammoth, and the kamikaze games
  • 3 0
Yes @dropoffsticks, I would go as far as to say Zink is more versatile than Brandon. In one of his interviews this year he says Strait is "the best bike rider on the planet", so at least someone agrees with me.
  • 1 2
What about Gee Atherton? 4x champ, dh champ, and has competed in Rampage.
  • 4 0
gee is more boring then watching paint dry. the dude can ride but has zero personality
  • 2 3
^ Maybe you should focus on the riding instead of silly crap like your interpretation of a rider's personality. Wink
  • 2 0
still not as impressive as cedric. you know the guy with a personality and who won all you mentioned before gee.
  • 32 4
I love all the content that Sram media puts out.
  • 26 3
It seems that Whistler gets demolished all the time by latest video crews, stop this destructive filming! #savewhistler #alineforrollerbladesonly
  • 22 2
Its officially confirmed now. Brandon is not human
  • 19 2
Semenuk's Utah seg just cannot be watched enough... Here I am on the 10th time still going 'OH!' on that rock gap.
  • 6 0
That cork 3 to tree grab was what got me going. Such a steezy rider.
  • 2 0
 flatspin
  • 1 0
also have people still not bought the full movie? the whole thing cant be watched enough
  • 10 1
Clicked on this thinking "Oh cool, some sick new videos", but then i realized ive seen them all multiple times

still watched all of them again twice. These vids are f*cking epic. Props to semenuk for being the best, and then topping himself again and again. #1 rider to me for sure
  • 9 1
I was looking forward a Stop Motion video of rampage like the pic on the front page, but there is no stop motion video.
  • 1 0
youtu.be/u3uPZZQVoCg just saw this Playmobil bike video on YouTube. freakin Hilarious!
  • 15 4
kyle strait is overrated... the whole rest of the field got robbed when he won rampage with suicide no hander
  • 6 5
Yup, his run was just the suicide no-hander... nothing else. Yup, he didn't have the gnarliest top section line or anything.
  • 1 1
Clearly you did not see the last jump, after not hander.
  • 1 1
Last year he also deserved the victory. He flew more than Andreu.
  • 7 1
The rock gap is ridiculous....but if you wanna be blown away watch the vid of him overshoot it with style! Just born to be on a bike that man.
  • 7 2
They should change this month to "Videos of the month" Instead of singular. Way too rad
  • 4 3
Am I the only one who wonders how an event such as joyride with such a huge media coverage can produce such a poor video of one of the greatest slopestyle runs ever?
Honestly, the run is so good, but the video SO bad!!
When I was at Crankworx 2013 I counted dozens of gopros around the final jump of joyride. And this video looks as if it is just one single camera, standing at the bottom of the course zooming in, in spite of all the obstacle, lifts etc...
  • 2 0
I agree. Super run. It wasn't a terrible video, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the others featured here. Too much slow motion.
  • 3 1
my vote is for R-dog! #3 - all the way. I could watch that edit every day for the rest of my life.
  • 3 1
R-Dog's got style for days. I'm stoked to see 2 of the most sytly riders in the world on the list. R-Dog and Sem.
  • 1 2
He is in the wrong sport, his is the BMX...
  • 1 0
This article has a lego rampage picture in the main page. Where is that from? I looked up Lego Redbull Rampage but nothing...
  • 2 0
it was POD a few days ago.
  • 2 0
Thanks! I was hopeing it was a Lego Redbull Rampage Video! That would be fun!
  • 2 1
3bikes_3minutes Rocks! The steed with the speed and steez...
  • 3 1
 R dog rules.
