by The YT Mob

The US National Championships 2016 in Mammoth Mountain were nothing but a good time. Aaron Gwin and Cam Zink were battling the dry and dusty race track and had a great race weekend together. Check out our American YT crew in our latest US Championship's edit.

Step one in my goal to be like Aaron Gwin is checked off, as I also ate five pieces of pizza. It's only a matter of time now.
  • 16 1
pssh, Aaron has work to do if he wants be on my level. 5 pieces? Ha
  • 9 1
I'll just eat an entire pizza! That builds speed, right?

I am growing to realllllly like these edits.

Like rum and coke, Claudio previews and YT edits are a welcomed treat that never fail to deliver.
  • 13 0
@aoneal: only difference is rum and coke continues to deliver the following day.
  • 12 0
@adrennan: I'll probably watch this again tomorrow an enjoy it a little less. Kind of like a rum and Coke the next day...

YT seems to really, really suit Gwin. I think he's just becoming more comfortable with himself as a racer as well, but the chill, fun vibe that YT has going on looks like it's helping as well. Good on him for making the switch to a place where he can be happier
  • 46 6
Yeah, I'm wondering how many people who have been bashing him for his God loving the last few years are changing their tune. He's much more relaxed and comfortable and it shows. Now maybe they need to move Gee to YT to remind him he has personality.
  • 52 5
Look at Jared Graves, he doesnt seem to happy anymore... Cough* Specialized *Cough
  • 16 1
Was thinking the same thing. The Aaron Gwin on YT is a far more likeable and relatable rider than his previous persona. It's damned hard to evolve one's personal brand, but he seems to be doing a fine job.
  • 49 9
I must be a psychopath... I never had problem with Aarons God, nor with Gee's serious face. Lately I heard so many people hoping for the Portugal to lose Euro, because they hate Christiano Ronaldo. I honestly think it's either me being numb, or some people should really look into the mirror more often... There's some sht flowing out of their mouth, wipe it...
  • 23 1
@WAKIdesigns: I tend to agree. Certain people will say those with serious faces and a lack of personality on screen (i.e. Gee or Gwin) take things too seriously. On the flip side, others will say those that are always smiling and playing around while winning (i.e. Cam Newton or maybe CG) need to take things more seriously. The fact is that you can't please everybody and the mere fact that any of these athletes are performing at the highest levels of their sports means they're doing something right. I don't think Gwin's changed at all personally, these YT Mob videos just give us a chance to see him behind the lens a bit more than we did with Spec or Trek. Same great dude IMO.
  • 7 3
@WAKIdesigns: I think you have inhaled to much off gassing from the E-bikes batteries. Permeant brain damage!
  • 5 1
@WAKIdesigns: I totally agree, we see them in front of the camera 99% of the time. People don't understand that it can be awkward and intimidating to be being interviewed or questioned, especially when they all ask the same question for the most part.
  • 13 5
@brandaneisma: quite honestly I think most of haters are just a-holes who see athletes as puppets who are meant to entertain them and deliver cheap and easily digestible brain candy. It's the same pattern through all sports. Hero archetype complex: the same people who throw crap at Gee or Gwin are surely worshipping someone else to a greater degree than you and I ever could. I don't get that hate but I am also far from worshipping Peaty, Hill or Bruni. They are all humans. If I met Minnaar in a bar I wouldn't talk to him unless it was just us two and it would get awkward not to. What should I talk to him about? We have nothing in common. I can't even tell him about that ride with my buddies last weekend. What if I met Obama? wouldn't talk to him either. Just like I wouldn't to some dude that sits next to me right now on the airport

I think part of it is that there weren't many edits of him. I'd guess he hasn't changed all that much, we just never saw it. One thing I do like is that they're showing him as part of a team. That was never emphasized in the past.
  • 6 0
@WAKIdesigns: you must be a right laugh on a night out.....

I kind of see things the other way to you, I talk to everyone, more so to people I have nothing in common with, the conversations with my mates are primarily around beers, bikes, cars, gym, women etc, so its good to chat to people who have other interests.
  • 6 3
 @twellsie: no worries

We all have different sides within ourselves. I don't know what kind of a guy I am on the night out to my friends or who could I be to you. I like stuffing jokes into everything and I like jokes that strike close to home. I wnjoy uncomfortable matters.

Anyways... The only time you need to worry about mine or anyones personality is when there is a chance we would interact with each other for extended period of time, like if I moved next door to you, or I became your work mate. Other than that I may as well be a secret fan of Pol Pot, cut the eyes out of pictures of Curtis Keene or masturbate to the thought of Honey Boo Boos mom raping Kanye West, and it would not affect the quality of your life by a tiniest bit.
  • 3 1
@WAKIdesigns: I'm not worried in the slightest, like I said I cant help but talk to anyone, I find peoples personalities and reactions generally more intersting than the subject matter, but that's me.

your references other than Kanye are lost on me

keep it real dude

@twellsie: Gotta give credit to @WAKIdesigns for his Cambodian & US popcrap references. That said, I learned everything I know about the UK from Benny Hill, and was sad to find out that Yakety Sax was not a song of British origin. That song rips and should be used in an edit soon.

@WAKIdesigns: the aircraft looks a lot more aggressive imo
  • 13 2
 @pigit77: I'm not 100% sure...
  • 3 3
@pigit77: Looks can be deceiving...results are not. the iconic D3 Helmet, on top of it already being the most victorious full face in MTB and BMX, won 3 pro mens U.S. National Championships with Mitch Ropelato winning the Enduro, Slalom and Gwin winning the DH...oh wait, an A1 was on Mitch's head for slalom and enduro, that's our other bad ass lid. :-)
  • 4 0
@stikmanglaspell: who cares about results. you want your helmet to look awesome and be safe, at least i do. i want my shit to have some nice racey graphics, aggressive angles, i want lots of scoops for cooling but i want those scoops to look bitchin. i want to look like an x wing pilot from an alternate universe. I wear a '12 red Sam Hill D3. the most bitchin, bad ass helmet ever made

TLD helmet is the only thing that does not fly sideways when Brendog is in the air. Coincidence?

Really loving these edits showing more of Gwin in day to day life! For a guy that has been more or less dominating downhill the last the few years, I feel like he is still a bit of an enigma. Everyone seems to know about Bruni, Bryceland and even Fairclough. But none of them are anywhere near the level of wins and expertise as Gwin. It's cool to see that he seems like a pretty relaxed and down-to-earth guy.
  • 6 0
Beyond genetics, being at the top in sport usually involves something thats not a mystery...hard work and training. I'm willing to bet Gwin trains harder than those guys. Its like Kobe or Jordan - sure genetics helped, but they were up at 5am daily shooting while everyone else is sleeping.

@motard5: hard work is overrated. Work smart is where it's at. I bet our dads work harder than Gwin does.

If I had to pick a pair of pros to ride with for a day, Gwin and Zink would be tops on the list.
  • 11 0
Absolutely! The ambassador of downhill and the ambassador of freeride! Great to see them on the same team! Big Grin
  • 9 0
Totally, me too if I could avoid getting dropped before the first turn.
  • 16 0
I'm not so sure. I'd be terrified.

Gwin: Pray I don't drop you on the first corner.
Zink: I'm sure a straight air is fine, its only 70ft.

Gotta say, last year when the rumour mill was working overtime saying Gwin to YT i just couldn't see it. I'm a big fan of Gwin and a big fan of YT (I own a Tues) but it just didn't seem a great fit.

But watching the YT mob vids this year it's really painted Gwin in a different light we're seeing a more casual side to him. Loving the vibe of these edits. Here's a team getting it done week in week out but seemingly enjoying every minute of it.

Great stuff!
