I hate to break it to ya, but this photo can't really qualify for POD, it's been too heavily photo-shopped. I will definitely agree that it is a brilliant image as a photo for an advertisement set in fantasy. But even if the background is actually the original background, the shafts of light are certainly "man made". And besides, if they were to make it picture of the day, pinkbike certainly shouldn't be giving the credit to Diogoa.
