Pre-Semi-Finals: The race to the registration desk.

The fact Kaos Seagrave can race but, Brayton can't is bullshit. I know its a rule but, its bullshit

 No Dakota?

Spomer brought up same thing on the green site. Very strange.

ESO probably canceled him because a non-top-30 standings rider making the podium is most likely a disgrace to their elite-ism top level synergy sports package...

His teammate Joe Breeden was also not on the entry list. As far as I know, registering for the race if you're a team rider is the responsibility of the team. Since they had until 4:30 (local time) today to submit a late entry and they were supposed to pick up number plates by that time, I imagine the oversight was rectified and both riders will be on the start list for qualifying.
UCI hasn't posted the start list for qualis yet, so it's not apparent whether they've been registered.

No Brayton? As far as I'm aware, the race organisers still haven't commented on excluding one of the sport's good guys through sheer incompetence...

Listening to Needles Podcast with Sven, they mentioned how two Elite Roadies (Sagan and Van Der Thingy) were bumped up a few spots in the start line at the world champs XC just because they are big names in Bicycle fitness racing (road), effectivley jumping the queue and pushing full time XC racers back, Obvs not fair on the full time XC racers, but on that basis the UCI should be able to change the rule at the click of their fingers to allow a stalwart and huge fan favorite like Grandad in. The whole thing is sickening.

Has Gee been on other start list this season, hope he's racing, we need the Vulcan back!

He simply didn't pick up the points he needed, in national or international races. UCI may be incompetent, but not letting "one of the good guys" participate is no evidence of that.

I realise the points issue what he required etc, it’s the fact the the UCI can move the rules around to suit their favouritism’s. They don’t see Brayton the way we the fans see Brayton, but they do see Sagan and Van der Pole their golden boys and are happy to bend the rules for them. Hey Ho.

@pj-irons: world champs aren’t really associated with the World Cup series in any meaningful way.

@mi-bike: I was using Brayton as an example of how mountain bike racing is becoming increasingly elitist. My suggestion was to change the semi-final points rule to count as actual points, just as everyone thought they did. The UCI certainly aren’t averse to a rule change…

Where's Neko been for the last couple of weeks?

He went and raced World Champs and realized that he wasn't anywhere close to where he needed to be strengthwise in his recovery from the injury (basically major atrophy in his injured leg). He said that he felt he could do more to get back healthy and up to speed Stateside in preparation for the races in North America. The last I heard, he was planning on racing the final two races.

@Hogfly: I did wonder if maybe he wasn't fully healed yet? Hopefully we may see him at the Fox US Open in a couple of weeks as a warm up for Snowshoe and MSA.

Rick James representing in junior mens DH. He's a super freak, has fire and desire etc

I feel like I haven't been following the World Cup at all this year. It used to be me and my wife's favorite Sunday morning tradition to watch the WC DH finals on Redbull. But the production quality is so much worse, that we have totally lost interest. I feel bad, b/c I know it hurts the athletes the most, but I hope lower views forces them to reimagine the production of such a dynamic event.

 Gaze on the road still?

 Think so, on the Vuelta.

Sam had to abandon the Vuelta 4 days ago. Sounds like he's in pretty rough shape.

IINM, No Pidcock this weekend either. He's racing in the Tour of Britain which finishes on Saturday.
