@6foot5aussie: Yes - for sure. The 100K was (relatively) small-change for Gates - and really just a side-quest on their plans. There's an Atherton video that outlines the support their team receives from Gates to produce the drivetrain and model the associated kinematics etc... and that was what made the gearbox/belt drive etc... possible as an R&D project. Gates would have done similarly for most Belt-teams, meaning they're invested *way* beyond the 100K.
The 100K was mainly as a combined marketing push that supported all belt teams - which is literally the 'outside MTB dollars coming in to MTB DH'ing' that we've all been crying out for since Volvo and Grundig :)

The sort answer to 'piano and/or lego to rebuild the nerve' is: yes. Nerves can't be 'rebuilt' but the signal can be remapped along other paths. Doing the movement exercises (both macro and fine motor) stimulates all the (previously minor) pathways and forces them to level-up. That's why it's such a long process.
Balance is different, but complementary activities do 100% help - remember Mick Hannah and pump tracks before they were cool...
