2010 Transition Double - Sneak Peek

Apr 8, 2010 at 15:25
by Jordan Holmes
Transition has made a big splash in a small market, and there constant push to make their bikes bigger and better is yet to stop. With the recent release of the brand new TR450, Transition is going to keep the hype rolling with the release of these shots of the 2010 Transition Double.

Check out more info on the 2010 Double inside...We got a few of the new Doubles air shipped for the team riders for Sea Otter so we decided to share some pics. The main shipment is on a boat and will be here right when we get back from Sea Otter - middle of this month. Here is the low down on the new frame and how we were able to increase the awesomeness by 27%.

For the 2010 Double it was all about refinement and taking an already dialed frame to the next level. We looked at every tube, yoke, cnc'd bit and hardware to come up with the cleanest and trickest frame we could imagine. The result is a stronger and lighter Double that is more capable for a wider use of disciplines.

photo

1. New proprietary formed tubeset for the front triangle. Internal headtube gusset and tube shapes that mate up perfectly to the tapered headtube for increased strength.

photo

2. Adjustable travel via our new flip chip in the rocker arm. Travel options are now 80 or 100mm.

photo

3. Internal chainstay cable routing for the rear derailleur.

photo

4. Trick new custom pivot bolts that are our own design that match up nicely to dials on Fox forks.

5. 3 new colors to choose from, Raw, Lemon Lime Green, Cyan Blue.

Stay tuned for more info.

that right there is the deffinition of sex on wheels

its a nice bike just imagine how expensive and unaffordable it is for most of the people looking at it right now still wish i had it
  • 4 3
Londoncowan: Transition bikes are designed to be very "in-expensive" when cpompared to simular bikes. This will be much cheaper the a dobermann le-pink, or black market kill switch.
  • 13 1
with a fox 831, sram xo, and crankbros wheels?
or are they selling it as a frame only?
cuz this build kit is hard to keep inexpensive
  • 3 0
ya thats what i thought that looks really expensive but really nice
  • 4 0
on the trnasition website it says these pics are of jill kitners team build. so of course it is gonna have loads of trick parts on it
  • 3 4
 Does transition do completes (NO)
I Heart Emma Stevens =]
  • 6 0
damn it transition, stop making bikes that look sooooo sick and are just out of my price range
  • 2 0
That's Jill Kintners build people, not the stock one
  • 2 0
Transition sells frames with optional build kits... Ur best bet is gettng a build thruogh your kcal dealler
  • 4 0
You mean the tapered fork? If so its so the head tube/steerer tube is stronger at the bottom where it needs to be, but is not too heavy, and it allows you to use normal stems too. I think.
  • 2 3
 which foxes are they#?
  • 2 0
Tidy. I'm stoked to see this here increased awesomeness!
  • 2 0
Hit up the dropnzone.com. They are Transition's LBS (in Bellingham, WA) and do all kinds of deals on various builds. And ask Allen about the "golden hammer"
  • 2 0
Magnus, you can use either a 1&1/8th full steerer fork or a 1.5 tapered to 1&1/8ths fork which this bike is designed to be run with, either will work fine, tapered will be stronger.
  • 2 0
yea there was last time i looked a set of 36 van r's on CRC they couldnt shift going at some ridiculous price probably brought now you will start seeing alot of bike with the tapered head tubes now
  • 1 0
i like that internal cable routing.. shud b done on everything since tubes are hollow. durr
  • 15 2
Wow that bike is HOT. hotter than a blow torch...hotter than an over-heated Buick la sabre....hotter than your mom bending over to reach the garbage disposal reset button...DAMN that bike is hot!!!
  • 7 1
why the tapered head tube? how many dj forks come with tapered steerers? Argyle? No. Dirt Jumper? Nope. Manitou's new dj fork, the Circus? Nope. X fusion? Nope. Maybe SR Suntour? nahhhh. No one has a tapered fork. argh I hate it.
  • 3 1
Fox 36, yes. Fox 32, yes. X-fusion, give it 6 months...it just is awesome for strength and lighter weight than a 1.5. I'd bet most will be offered tapered by the end of the year. it really doesn't matter if you don't have a tapered...reducers are awesome. plus you're front end is lower. it's really a better setup
  • 1 0
What difference does it make? Run a 1 1/8" steerer and reducer bottom cup if you don't have a fork with a tapered steerer.
  • 3 0
the tapered head tube is not specifically for the sake of the fork- it's more to do with frame tube shape, tube fitment, and weld surface area. It's just structurally better since most bikes have a larger diameter down tube than top tube.
  • 1 0
There r new headsets that allow u to run a fork with a nontapered steerer with a tapereed headtube
  • 1 0
run a 1.5 with a drop in headset, it's the lowest you can possibly get. the weight difference between a 1.5 and tapered is negligible, and it just cuts down your options. you can still have the oversized down tube, with the 1.5, not to mention if you really want to customize your rig you can run a K9 headset. you can't do that with tapered. it's pretty much the same thing as coming up with the 15mm axle vs. the 20mm. lots of marketing, no real performance increase, and more stuff to sort though.

It would be awesome if the Bottlerocket got an update like this. With the adjustable rear suspension design the Bottlerocket would be the ultimate Slope Style/Freeride bike.
Does anyone know if the rear rocker on the 2010 Double could be put on an older version?
  • 3 1
but it's still just a single pivot design. The wheel mounts to the chainstay, not the seat stay. So your gonna get brake jack, and the other loads of issues people have with single pivot bikes.
  • 1 1
Horst link suffers frome brake jack too, as does vpp and dw... i prefer a standard swingarm 4 bar, simple, gets the job done well.
  • 4 1
It really make no difference on a 80-100mm SS bike. If anything a single pivot is more reliable, lighter and snappier.
  • 2 1
 Who's braking?
  • 5 0
wow really nice looking, would like to see the lemon lime green color.
  • 2 1
Why would you want custom pivot bolts? So when you need one you're out of a bike for 4 months while you wait for transition to send you one? Or is it so you can pay $40 for a stupid bolt because it's transition branded. Stick to standard hardware!
  • 1 0
I could be wrong, but maybe the old bolt style still fits?
  • 2 0
all of these new 2010 bikes ive seen, are just completely decked out. look at this thing, xtr cranks and everything. the real deal.
  • 3 0
"to increase the awesomeness by 27%"
A bike company with a sense of humor... Cool.
  • 4 0
i hate these rims i would much rather the revolutions
  • 3 0
possible anodised pivot bolts? they look sweet as they are but coloured would be even more awesomeeeeeee Pimp
  • 1 1
On the second pic down the brake cable has alredy rubed off the paint and there's mud and crap under the frame also that weld dosent look very strong on the right hand side it just another bike that people will buy then sell cuz they don't like it or another bike has come out plus it's a crap silver I don't nowether u can get different Coulors but it's just boring the rims aree nice And the brakes but thz about it

  • 1 0
i dont know but you could get a damn fine one for the price of that bike Razz but still that wouldnt even come close to how sick this bike is
  • 1 0

  • 2 1
Is that the new Fox DJ fork?
  • 2 0
Yep fox 831 it's acually bent a little bit more to the likes of gated racing but like most short travel fox forks they prove usefull for just about any thing short travel ss or dj
  • 1 0
That's so freaking cool. I don't even 4x or DJ and I want one.
  • 1 0
i dont even want to know the price :/
  • 1 0
 what are those rims called??
  • 1 0
im pretty sure they're the crank brothers cobalt
  • 1 0
Its definitely Crank Bros and the model I'm sure is Cobalt. That's not the name of the rim, but the wheelset. You can't get the rim separate and it wouldn't work with any other spokes or any other rim.
  • 1 0
I gotta learn to type faster, at least we agree!

There's an Pinkbike article on a similar Crank Bros wheelset:

early season; the bike's owner is still waiting for some sponsorship product
  • 1 0
Hahaha what ever works whatever works
  • 1 0
Sick bike not the bigggest fan of the color but i like the setup
  • 2 1
Always wounderd, do you have to use a taperd fork on a taperd headtube?
  • 3 0
Nope, can still use a standard 1.125" steerer in there Smile
  • 1 0
Is there gunna b a new Bottlerocket on the horizon?
  • 1 0
Feeling like this bike will be a hit! Freaking orgasmic! Big Grin so pretty
  • 1 1
looks kinda cheap. maybe because of an overload of multi-coloured, chrome-like parts.
  • 1 0
too many colours, makes it kinda less attractive, but still a great bike
  • 1 0
Parting out my double soon if anyone's looking for frame.
  • 1 0
 wuuut!!!!!!!!!!?????????
  • 1 0
 thats a nice bike Eek
  • 1 0
 Im hot for this 3
  • 1 3
Normally i'm not a fan of internal cable routing, but i'm stoked on this design. Only thing shitty is that Fox has anybody buying the Double on a leash
  • 3 0
how do you figure that? any fork will work with it.
  • 1 2
He's talking bout that's the only dj fork out rite now that will run a tapered headtube
  • 1 0
just put an inch and half reducer on the bottom and a normal inch and 8th on the top???!!!
