Well I have tried to do those front wheel wheelies on tight turns and 90% of the time i go over the bars. This guy shows remarkable skill and a huge set of balls.I would much rather watch this stuff than some kid in a chequered shirt doing tail whips etc.Dont get me wrong , that stuff is fantastic and commands great skill but to be able to do what Max did on that trail is a super human effort.

Lovely video Col,you really pick some amazing places to film.

He can't even sit down on those massive balls of his

Wouldn't be surprised if the front disc had melted after that run...

I'm not denying there's serious skill here but for me the chequered shirts doing whips and tricks is more what I want to see personally, yeah this is serious skills and impressive to see! That's the beauty of the world, different people different opinions!

This video defiantly shows the full potential of "mountain" biking, to that... Cheers Smile

He better hope his brakes don't go out
  • + 3
My thought has always been the risk better equal the fun...To me that didn't look like much fun and it was probably really risky at times. Hey if you into scenery and trials like biking then this shits all day! But I love me some flannel whippers!

@mnorris122 - was on the front page a few weeks ago, yes, but not VOD.
  • + 3
doing this front wheel stuff is one thing, but doing that on loose gravel is a whole different thing! Hats off!
  • + 4
@cydaps...very well said mate. This is more of what i would like to see and do but i fully respect all forms of riding.....The more variety of riding means more folk will get a bike and ride which can only help this awesome lifestyle and sport we do.I think this being a bit different to the normal stuff is great but i do like my "flannel whippers" fix too

describing dirt jumpers as "kid's with chequered shirts" is is pretty stereotypical if im honest.

why dont you get a pipe and some slippers an stay at home with them skids an FRONT WHEELIES....... chequered shirts the cheek.i hope you go over your bars next time you try to do it again Wink

Round a few of those corners is it really necessary to do those front wheelie turns? Surely it would be easier, more fun, faster and look better to stick your foot out and throw your bak end round?
Either way awesome video and sweet skills!

This could be a brake commercial!

neg prop me! i am going to put this comment on every VOD of 2012 and i want to see how many negs i can get in 1 year!
  • + 2
Max Schumann can do this with a regular mtb helmet, but I would wear a fullface because I'm sure I would smash my face every few turns Big Grin This guy has got skills!
  • + 2
does anyone else think that its really satisfying to watch the suspension compress in the corners?
ah bike porn
  • + 1
 ^^^i second that!!!
  • + 13
Thought that was pretty boring, too much skidding and turning with the front brake.

didn't like it either, dont really see much skill on that... only liked the place, so cool terrain and views.

^^^ "not much skill in that"^^^?!?! lets see you do that!
  • + 4
Try it first then think about it. I thought the same at first but then I managed to join one of these guys for a ride. I thought I was going to die. It's not that easy! It's hard! Nobody really rides a bike on that mountain. It's steep and there is no defined trail! You find your own trail. Everybody I know doesn't even believe me that you can ride a mountain bike down Zugspitze until I show them this video of Max. If you don't like it then fine, but saying that there is no skill here is plain ignorant.

i feel like he went thru a set of tires with that ONE descent....
  • + 3
his skills are amazing and I could never do that without going through a few pairs of boxers, but the filming deserves a lot of credit to walking down that must be pretty sketchy when your not holding an expensive camera
  • + 2
gosh he shows skill, but i didn't know whether to take a nap half way into the vid or just close it and go to the crashes section....alittle boring and shows no blood or at the very least falls
  • + 4
This track is almost impossible to ride but you did it, Max ! Unbelievable skill. Great video too.
  • + 1
That's right - it's a pretty understated effort and the video does the exposure no justice.
  • + 4
that would suck so much to bail down the hill there
  • + 1
I like it better in the winter, but you definitely made the most of it. Gnarly terrain, fantastic rider. Max really is at the top of his game currently.

In German: Bikebergsteigen, which means Bike mountaineering. Kind of a boring name, others called it "Vertride" which sounds better I think...
