Ya buddy! Another sick video Tam. Love the colors and your filming style! And of course the riding was top notch too!

first off he lives in an apartment in Rossland, not some huge mansion in whistler, he rides the BUS to get laps in, he lives with his girlfriend who most likely supports Mike in numerous ways (many top athletes regardless of sport say they couldn't have gotten to where they are with out support of their significant others). Most people don't have the mind set to go out and work on one single area of their riding (ie cornering) they just do multiple laps, but if you want to be on the top of your sport you have to work on the little details. When your a pro you can't say "I don't feel like riding today", you go out and ride every single day (sounds a lot nicer then it is) whether your sore from yesterday, its raining, its cold or whatever you use as an excuse to not go ride (we all have them).
Sponsors have huge obligations for their riders and expect results on comps. If you have an off season your dropped on a moments notice for that next hot shit kid coming up. You need to be on your game at all times, you can't call in sick. From what I have seen Mike is one of the harder working dudes in extreme sports (both skiing and riding) and you shouldn't say he has an lazy life and imply that things just get handed to him.
If you think it's so easy to be a pro rider why aren't you the one in this video?
Bikebuster: I just think he leaned it up there while he tied up his shoes, I don't think he just leaves it outside all the time

You clearly have no idea how the industry works. It doesn't matter if he lives in an apartment or a house, the fact is that it is nice and he is living more comfortably then he should be. He rides the bus for the reason he gave... it is great transportation to get him to the trail head and that isn't because he doesn't have a truck (he does have a nice one) it is because he doesn't have anyone else to shuttle him for laps. He gets paid way enough to support himself and he is also a "pro" skiier so that doesn't decrease his funding either. He isn't at the top of the sport, his sponsors don't expect any result from him because he does nothing in terms of entering events, contests, or races and he isn't even close to one of the hardest working extreme sport athletes out there.

He isn't a "pro" because he is a good rider, he is a "pro" and gets paid because he has good connections.

He was invited to the redbull rampage evolution last year and qualified to the finals. To quote you from the link you provided "because you sure as hell aren’t training for anything worth our time in mountain biking". I'm glad you put the redbull rampage in that category!! Well done.
What does living more comfortable then he should be mean, that all pro riders should be dirt bags.....
PS I read most of your blog posts on Thrash Bike (yes I do research before I comment) and not much original content there, mostly just you posting other peoples vids other then your trip to colorado crankworks which was written more like spectator then a journalist.

woah woah woah. 'Ridingthemoment' I never said he was lazy and gets shit handed to him. I was just curious about how far sponsorships go, because after watching this vid it looks like he has it made in the shade. Obviously its not easy to be sponsored. You have to be on your game and stay in shape. On the other hand considering that his career is something that he loves. I cant see his job being really hard. There are more strenuous careers.
Second. Dont assume. Never said I deserved to be a pro, and neither did I say it was easy.
Third. You forgot to say...he is a "pro," b/c he is a damn good rider.
(In 2 sports)

Not all the comments were aimed at you, someone further down said "He has the most lazy liife i've ever seen". Your right, he is a damn good rider and your also right I shouldn't assume my bad.

Good for him! He entered a contest and actually qualified! He must of been so far out of his element. How about all the other riders that were invited and qualified and placed above him? Brandon Semenuk, Kurt Sorge, Grahem Aggasis, etc. etc... Last time i checked Aggy still had a job at Milestones to get enough money to make it to the events and he is placing top 10 at all the events he enters whether it be slope-style, dirt jump, big mountain, dh, or the Rampage. Now you are trying to justify Hopkins getting full salary and more magazine exposure then 95% of the riders in the sport just because he went to Rampage and qualified last year? That's weak.
By living more comfortably then he should be, I was meaning that he should be receiving that letter of unemployment from his sponsors, along with all the other riders who have been relaxing and getting comfy in that one spot they have been in for the past 3 or 4 years. He should either pick it up or move on out because he is taking a lot of money away from riders who could be using it in a much more productive way.
Thanks for tuning into ThrashBike as well, but I think you are miss-understanding the idea of the blog. With only my content and Nick Brandreth's, we would have very original content but long intervals in between post seen as it takes a long time for original content to happen. That would mean we would loose readers if we didn't put in some fill and still what I end up posting for fill is rather fresh. If a friend of mine posts a video trailer up on the internet, that means that they want it viewed and how else are the masses going to view it if that trailer doesn't get posted in more then one spot?
The Colorado trip was written from a riders perspective, I wasn't intending for people to think I was a journalist.

As I mentioned earlier. I've heard that Hopkins has been working extremely hard to put together a sweet segment for the up and coming movie Life Cycles. Doing things just as good as any pro rider. Just look at this ad, the kid is touching his handlebars on the ground on a basically flat corner. Haven't seen too many pro's do that.

He got 6th at Rampage, one of only 4 riders to hit the huge gap, and the kid has a hard work ethic. Don't tell me sponsors could use their money better. There needs to be riders like Hopkins, totally down to earth nice guy.

I know Mike personally, I grew up with him, Ive been riding with him since grade 3. That guy works so hard its crazy. I helpped him make his first few sets of promo videos. I was working 10 hr days a full time job and he would be over at my house till 3 am prefecting the promo. It wasnt good enough until he said it was good enough. His first bike promo we re-did close to 40 times. Theres a reason why Mike is where he is today. Its how hard the kid works and his attention to detail. Very proud to say Im his friend.

just in case anyone still cares, being sponsored is tough shit, contracts don't last for ever and to keep the good ones you have to actually improve, which contrary to popular belief actually takes some effort and long days trying to improve your technique and style, or become faster if your racing. yeah its a sick life and yeah it's easy but only if you love doing it.

I can tell you first hand that NO ONE in the bike biz gets anything they havent faught for or just straight up deserve. There isnt a huge warehouse full of Scott Dh bikes, shimano components and cases of Monster waiting to be given out to the guy or girl who writes the nicest letter or sends a thoughtful email. This guy has those things because he did what it took to get those things.....hard work. And to all you jag offs hating on the guy because he has nice things.....go get a job + work hard = and you'll have nice things too.

im really missing the country lifestyle now...he coudlve had some much better pedals on his dh bike, those pedals didnt even look sealed! throw on a pair of those pick twenty6's and he set

Mike is the man

yeah I don't think it's a lazy life either.. but it's a good one for sure, living in the woods with your girl, your buddies, riding every day... I don't see any problems with that

that is so cool a minifridge that says momster full of monsters a bus that goes right to were the trails are thats like whistler withought the lines thats sick
- + 2
Being able to ride to the trail and then travel back on the bus with your bike... if only it was like that everywhere.
- + 1
Actually, some trails run DOWN from Rossland. The Bus is handy, but he probably has to take it on the bus,'coz his tires won't fit in the rack either!

i would tell you, but i asked aswell, but no one seems to want to awnser, they are more intrested in argueing about how lazy or how lazy he isnt. just cant watch the video and enjoy it.
there are too many critics and not enough people who just get on with it, there are so many people who think they could do this, some may be able to. but the rest just rant like i am now... just get on with it and then you can get connected and maybe payed to do this amazing sport
soo what is the 2nd song it rocks i just want to ride to it.
