After bringing a rising star to sulfurous Cuba, our director Hadrien Picard went exploring a land rarely visited for the good excuse of BMX, a dream destination for all the lovers of astonishing landscape, the land dear to infamous Björk, ICELAND. Mentally prepared to hold his Lumia during a complete frozen week, Hadrien goes there to discover Anton Arnarson, a young and tall man, blond, not sensitive to the cold, a dry fish and liquorice lover ; that would sound like the description of a viking right ? Well, this short documentary filmed with a Lumia 1020 is telling us a bit more on this rare, talented and motivated rider, riding for hours, in the cold and the loneliness of a never ending winter.
THE DIRECTOR – Hadrien Picard Brilliant mind with a master of geography and a charming personality, Hadrien Picard has mixed his two passions, bmx and photography, in SOULBMX 10 years ago, a magazine he is now owning partially. Naturally interested in the video, he has learned this art on his own and has become one of the best in BMX…between other fields. Some of the more dynamic brands involved in action sports didn’t miss the chance to trust his creative ideas and pleasant edits : Redbull, Nike or french phone company Sosh who gave him the responsibility to shoot, film and edit « ANTIPODES », a remarkable movie gathering several sports in a fantastic road trip through Australia. Joining with enthusiasm Nokia PureViews program, Hadrien manage to use the best of the fantastic lumia skills…even with frozen hands.
THE RIDER – Anton ArnarsonYoung but already strong like the wood he is carpentering, Anton is the best bmx rider of Iceland, the best of …a little group of 15 people carrying on regardless the weather and an obvious lack of parks, thanks to an amazing motivation. Passionate to the point of riding almost eight hours a day, even after night has dropped, in order to film every clips he dreamed of, anton has showed us all his natural sweetness. Welcoming, well educated and warm like all icelandic, he loves his country, the wild life, the serein society, the strong traditions ; but he is also influenced by American culture, on the bmx side of course in which he is proving to be just unbelievable, but also regarding the rest of his teenager habits. A bit shy and uncomfortable in front of a microphone, Anton is a good guy, simply human, with a warm heart. That might explain why he is always wearing only sleeveless shirt.
THE MUSIC – For a minor reflection www.foraminorreflection.comIceland has been known for years as one of the most dynamic indie rock scene on the planet, and even more precisely as the capital of post rock, this atmospheric and instrumental music that take you high in your emotions. Flirting with electronic music, « For A Minor Reflection » brings also a touch of lyricism to very soft melodies that matches perfectly the images of this land of fire. It was an obvious choice, given even easier after our enthusiastic discussions with the band used to play with Sigur Ros, another national music icon from this fantastic island.
and shot with a lumia, all of it? man.. these phones are getting into some serious tech phase..

Ólafur Arnalds is worthy, but not really post rock. I've always like Mum's dorky electro chilled sounds. Doubtful I'll ever get to see the stunning Sigur Rós play live in my lifetime, but I did get to see them rehearsing in Reykjavik once. I was mesmerized and bought Von immediately. Cool story, bro. Are they even post-rock? Seems like they were making music before the term post-rock was even coined by NME or whoever.
Anyone remember GusGus?
