Monster-Monster Trucks Invade!

Jun 2, 2008
by Si Paton
Check these gas guzzlers out! These are the Monster-Monster Trucks that are currently invading the U.Ks Downhill No1 Downhill Series, the MSC/Descent-Gear NPS.

Supporting all the riders and spectators trackside at each and every round. You all now know about Monster Energy being Gold Sponsor of the U.K's MSC/Descent-Gear NPS Downhill Series. No surprise then that they are also energizing all the athletes at the races.

Gaz Burns in the Hot Seat

In the U.K all of our races are in muddy fields so how does Monster deliver 1,500 cans of the green stuff? In a Monster-Monster Truck of course!

photo

There are currently five of these rolling around the U.K as we speak so keep em peeled

photo

Each pick-up truck is imported from the States and is a custom lifted Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD with a 6.6 litre Diesel V8 engine. There's a Fabtech Sports Lift System and all terrain tyres give the beasts extra height bringing the overall dimensions to 5m long x 2m wide x 2.8m high!!

photo

Each truck is also fitted with a Kicker sound system with base speakers under the back seats and aquatic side speakers fitted externally under the side of the body kit.... the beasts are ready to rock n roll!

photo

Cost? £65,000.00 for each truck..

photo

The Monster Trucks will be at each round of the MSC/Descent-Gear NPS:

July 5th and 6th - Fort William
August 9th and 10th - Mid Wales
September 20th and 21st Carlton Bank

since when did pinkbike.com turn into corporate-slug.com.
  • 16 8
agreed if any other person was to promote a company it wouldnt get posted it would get rejected
  • 6 4
AINT THERE ANY SMART PEOPLE ROUND HERE?!?!? ITS BECAUSE MONSTER ENERGY IS PAYING PINKBIKE.COM MEGA BUCKS TO POST THIS CRAP , AND TO MAKE MONSTER ENERERY LOOK SO GOD DAMN COOL , WHERE ELSE DO YOU THINK THE MONEY COMES FROM FOR THIS SITE!?!?
  • 6 4
Lol 1969 just another person blaming corporate america. Its these companies that are pushing the sport dumbass. W/O redbull where would freeride be. People like you are the ones that make this world dumb.

Stay in school, you need it.
  • 3 0
Small point, but Red Bull is not American - you probably weren't told that in school though
  • 1 0
t3h1337r, you're vacant on so many levels, it just wouldn't be worth my while explaining anything to you.
Your 'school' comment is so ironic it's almost cute, I'm not the person abbreviating three letter words. I'll try to avoid commenting on your nick entirely, it'd be too easy.

Also: chortle.

I was working yesterday at the millenium stadium at cardiff.. for the monster trucks, one of these trucks was outside handing away these drinks!! they're so nice!
  • 21 3
A company like this could use the £325000(65000x5 trucks) to make something useful for the enviroment..and they seemed to be proud of the "gas guzzlers"...6.6 v8 to carry 2 persons and 1500 cans? that's pretty stupid...

What a well delivered response to a perfectly acceptable observation. STFU... pure genus.
  • 8 2
I agree. It's no longer "tough" to like big gas guzzlers. It's just part of the impending disaster...
  • 18 4
since they put so much time and energy into the site, they figured living on top Ramen and Canned Baked beans was taking its toll, so they decided to pay some bills, like the electric and water, so they could keep there computers and showers running, its simple really..
  • 17 4
Thanks I'll stick to Red Bull as they use Mini's.

 Guys,

As a race organiser of the NPS - The British National DH Series we have to go out and get new sponsors who come into the sport and pay $$$ as well as add infrastructure.

Monster Energy as Gold sponsors provide us at great expense to themsleves the two trucks and eight people at each event and fuel up the riders and spectators. They also supply a huge sound system and a big marquee.

In return they of course want maximum exposure and Pinkbike is one of those avenues.

Without plugging their brand on here and on all other relevant sites they won't be coming back next year to support the series.

Therefore the NPS, the riders and the spectators would be a lot worst off as would you the readers of Pinkbike.

That is exactly how it all works, so perhaps think before you type regards your comments. We all need the likes of Monster, Nissan, Jeep etc.. and any other outside sponsors to invest in our sport.

Speak to anyone who has attended a NPS this year and they will all say Monster has added some "Sparkle" this year to the events..

Cheers.

Most of us know this, Si, but as someone who took money from a gas-guzzling, environmentally unfriendly sponsor for two years - to expect people not to point out the obvious is a little silly. No-one is really questioning that Monster are being 'involved' in the sport, or that their involvement as a brand is bad - but they are questioning their choice in promotional tools and rightly so. The only reason I even read the comments here was to see how many people caned the trucks on their environmental angle... and I am sure you would have seen it coming too.

You know what, I will lift my truck more gavind just because you said that. You know why I run my truck rich, just to piss tree hugging environmentalists off. Sierra club sucks....
  • 1 0
I think you miss my point. Whilst I care from a personal viewpoint about the environment, when it comes to doing business in sponsorship I am simply concerned with what the majority, or louder minority think. My point to Si is that whether you agree with them or not, the flood of comments here was always going to happen and should have been expected. Heck - we spent two years finding every way possible NOT to show our cars off (not because they were environmentally unfriendly, but simply because they were butt-ugly pieces of badly made turd), so I know what a minefield it is.
  • 7 1
I have to give a nod to Monster as I like the taste of their drinks a bit over Redbull, but those trucks are really irresponsible. I'm not certain why companies still feel they need 'monster' trucks to promote a product or their image. In the US now car dealers and customers are losing money on SUV sales both used and new as no one wants them due to high gas costs. The gas guzzeling truck image has come and gone. Time to look at new avenues to promote your goods....more girls with tight logo shirts/shorts maybe???? Sure would be a lot less expensive than $65K a pop.
  • 5 1
I totally agree with you. Fridges carried by Prius and powered with solar panels would cost the same and have a better image.
  • 2 1
I second that opinion. I find monster truck gas guzzlers completely unimpressive and see them as a waste of time promotion wise, as well as destructive for the environmental impact they cause. If monster was going after my dollar and my praise, they should at least make the trucks with hybrid engines. Even quentos has the right idea. by the way IH8ONU we all pay for it in the end. The sooner we get these kind of trucks off the road the better. Sorry to soften all the redneck boners out there.
  • 1 2
lol squishbiker, you go ahead and tram in your prius hippy.
  • 4 1
 Chris,

Everybody is right! Gas Guzzlers aren't cool for the environment and neither would a sinclair C5 be as the hot seat for our great sport!

This article isn't about GreenPeace it's about Monster Energy jumping in and bigging up the sport of DH MTB. We all ride bikes so this exhuberance is more than outweighed by all the guys at the NPS (riders and spectators) who all ride bikes more than push an accelerator.

Regards more pics of bikes, surely there should be more pics of the girls!!

Cheers.

Si..

seriously, if you guys were about to be hung.. you'd complain about the rope they hung you with.
all of you dumb ass's ... do you know how the world works?
do you retards realise how much Gas it takes to Fly the Same Helicopters that the NWD crew and ALL the other bike film companys Use to shoot videos for you little mama's boys? well.. errr.. ahhh lets see..uhhh f*ck load more than that truck will use in a year.
your just talking to talk, like one dude said.. go back to school.
  • 3 1
I think its a good idea ... all you hear lately is people moaning and asking the question why dont monster energy sell their stuff in the UK...

so they spend 10s of thousands on cars to get it to us ...

and you lot moan? i say get a grip personaly and support them.. GO MONSTER
  • 2 0
OK OK... Superfly is right, the sport needs support no matter if it comes from truck or cigarette companies. I guess it would have been cooler if the photos were a little less of truck tires and steering wheels and more about bikes, cool events, with a subtle Monster sprinkled in there for good measure...
  • 3 0
Well, with all this talk, Monster has achieved what they're looking! We're talking about it! It's what they want people! This is marketing pure and simple! So, that truck just paid himself!
  • 1 0
 Touche
  • 3 1
No offense to the people making what they think are smart enviromentaly based comments. Dont tell me switching my car makes a difference...one plane ride accross the pond uses more fuel than a fleet of these trucks could use in 5 years. They could have used other vehicle types...sure....you have the choice to not support their products then....STOP QUOTING AL GORE!!! HE IS FULL OF SHIT!
  • 2 1
As if chevy silverados dont look ugly enough they go and compound the problem by fittng tiny little tires. They would have been better off lifting something like a hilux and sticking 35 inch tires on em. Looks way better. Better mpg, and the steering wheel's on the right side. Plus they would cost about £60,000 less.
  • 1 0
Or you guys could just accept the fact that they made a truck that carries around energy drinks for the races. Maybe going outside and spending some time riding wouldn't hurt either...

It's just a truck, really. WHO CARES - I thought we were on this site for biking? Anyone?
  • 0 0
 Perfectly put.
  • 1 0
Yeh its really cool that they come to the races and hand out free drinks. They were at the last nps 4x round at bridgnorth but the truck didnt have a big fridge in the back.
  • 0 0
its all good them handing out drinks at the races, but you cant yet buy it in any uk shops!!
  • 0 0
Yea jamesoliver, people forget to mention all the free shit they hand out, and instead complain.

I was at a cycle speedway match the other day. A member of the other team had a can of monster energy, me and one of my team mates went up to him, (he was thinking we were gonna ask him about the match) but instead we said 'where did you buy your monster' with which he looked at us strangely and said some spar shop. So it is available!
  • 2 1
Its a sad day when one of the organisers gets slagged off for promoting one of his main sponsors! I bet if they turned up in smart cars or hybrids they would all be saying the same thing!
  • 3 3
ok 1st off compare the sliverado with the durmax then with the vortec the vortec will need to fill up b4 the 10 mpg beast will because diesel burns at a higher rate using less to burn creating more hp so there for the duramax will go farther then the vortec and diesel has less impact on the enviroment then a "gas guzzler" does (neg- prop me idk its the truth)
  • 2 0
globle warming its to late were already fucked monster owns and sponsers most bike events and pinkbike owns and a monster pink bike would be hard to ride

im not gonna read all the bullshit up above my comment im just gonna say monster rocks even if they have a giant truck cause its fcking awsome. And i like monster i drink it everyday to keep me going when im riding the local trails! thanks monster for being rad.!
  • 0 0
As for the guy who said monster energy were nothing without sam hill, obviously aint watched, moto x or the corr series or most american sports shows! At the end of the day this guy has done what every promotor would do, and push one of the main sponsors of the sport he obviously loves, and for that i applaud him and his colleuges.
  • 2 0
I would rather spend my money on a new bike than gas to fuel that beast; just a thought.
  • 12 11
the trucks look bad. paints cool, but they lifted it and kept the small wheels. they need bigger wheels. also, its a chev, pretty disgusting.
  • 11 1
 you're a ford man aren't you...
  • 9 11
 Woot Gooo ford Razz
  • 21 5
In about 15 years I'm going to stand back and laugh, excessivly I might add, when you guys can't afford to run your trucks. Sorry for the generalising but the people from the West; they'll stand back - gobsmacked saying 'Oh no!! How, why, when did this happen!?!!'
So just much is fuel over your way? Something like half of what it is here?
I'm sure that when your gas is $4 a litre, or $16 a gallon and your chevs and fords and dodges with obese engines will sit in your drives rotting whilst you ponder the question of just how you'll survive without 5 litres of glabal warming rolling you about.

However, erm...globabl warming is a punishment from god for keeping xc legal
  • 9 10
sorry to be an even larger a*shole here, but
1) Monster are nothing without Sam Hill
2) That fact doesn't matter though, seeing as they do have Sam Hill...but you see what Im getting at?
3) Solar panels for that fridge would have been a nice eco-friendly touch 4) For £65k it would have been way cooler and eco'r, and everything else'r if they had a fleet of Smart cars, or those disabled peoples vehicles that do like 33131030813 mpg

  • 1 0
agreed newer truck are so damn plastic and all computer run. what ever happened to metal and pure power. not to mention good looks. also half the trucks on the road today are lifted and all jacked up, but only like 15 percent acutely get dirty. the people who drive there pavement princess trucks around should sell and buy cars and let, or use there trucks for what they are meant for. ( not looking tough when they are only 4 in a half feet tall)... completely off topic Wink
  • 7 1
 haha your all such idiots!

England doesn't produce any oil you absolute retard...what the hell are you smoking? We're a tiny island and have no oil we have to import it and refine it blah blah etc etc

Bio-deisel is a rip off, and its been proven that the plans that make and refine bio-deisel are infact more polluting

So erm...shut up

But some of us are doing something about, unlike most gas guzzling people in america, it's stupid, I can't see why you can't agree that a 5-10 mpg truck to publicise an energy drink is stupid
  • 1 0
I think they are running smaller wheels to save gas with the trucks. They do have to drive them to all the venues. I'm willing to bet that there are some 22+ inch wheels sitting in storage somewhere.

Global warming is complete bullshit. The earth is doing fine as it is and we are not harming it quite like all you smelly hippies think. Don't always buy what the media shoves down your gullet. Yes gas is expensive, so go support the rigs and make enough money to not give a crap about how much you have to spend on it. And anyone that says anything to the effect of "Monster is nothing without Sam Hill" ahahaha. Ever heard of something called desert racing? There is actually money in that activity, so much that each team has multiple helicopters and stuff. Ever see the Monster Energy trophy truck? Yeah, that's what I though. Jesus H. Christ folks ditch your 4 bangers and get some 8+ cylinder courage!

Monster want this to happen. Bad news is the best news. People talk about the name. Then they 4get what they were talkin about in a couple of years. Then when a conversation on the topic that this company is involved in comes up. All the people remember the name and not what they do. Smart thinkin on their behalf. If all of u greenies drive ur own car out to a track everytime u go to ride there and there are 5 of u, wudnt it be betta for the environment if u all jumped in one car and used a little thing called a bike rack. Think about that for a while.
