Morpheus - Name the Prototype DJ Bike Contest Top Ten

Morpheus Cycles has spent the last year developing their dirt jump concept frame from a list of demands, detailed designs and now finally to life. The long slung and compact frame looks quite different to anything else on the market, but it has proven to be up to the abuse under Crankworx debutant Anthony Messere and Mitch Chubey, taking both of them to some impressive results in the FMBA world tour. The production version of the bike is set to debut in January, 2012. The only problem is that the bike still has no name...

Morpheus' yet to be named prototype outside their New York headquarters.

Last week Morpheus Cycles and Pinkbike paired up to provide Pinkbike members with the opportunity to win the first production model off the line. All you had to do was suggest a name for the bike in the comment section of the Name the Prototype DJ Bike Contest article. The response was incredible, with the article garnering well over 3000 comments and suggestions. The contest is now closed and Morpheus Cycles has managed to narrow it down to their top ten choices.

As a company it took us collectively over 30 hours to review and consider each and every name suggested. Below are our top 10 listed in no particular order. We will decide the overall winner within 24 hours. Stay tuned!

• Icon
An object of great attention and devotion

• Archetype
An original model or type after which other similar things are patterned; a prototype

• Daemon
A Guardian spirit

• Lucid
Easily understood. translucent or transparent. A dream that appears to be reality.

• Envy
A feeling of discontent and resentment aroused by and in conjunction with desire for the possessions or qualities of another.

• Prodigy
An act or event so extraordinary or rare as to inspire wonder.

• Phenom
A person or thing with outstanding abilities or qualities.

• Vimana
A Flying Mythological machine said to have existed over 6000 years ago. Considered to be created from a lost technology more complex and advance than anything known today.

• Lotus
A symbol of independence, self-regeneration and self-existent. Lotus flower is supposed to give that ingesting it godly like powers.

• Scandal
A circumstance or action that offends propriety or established moral conceptions.

The contest is now closed and Morpheus Cycles is dead set on picking the winner from one of the ten suggestions above, but do you have a personal favorite on the list? Are you one of the lucky few who has been chosen?

It's funny you say that since Mitch had way more to do with the designing of the bike and he's beat Anthony 2 out of 3 contest they both rode their hardtails at. If any thing mitch should get the choice. I like icon envy or daemon the best.

I vote phenom, because it flows of the tongue when coupled with morpheus. The term phenom is very marketable right now because of messere, but it applies to chubey as well, he was a phenom when he started getting coverage too. i remember watching drop in and i WAS AMAZED. he still kills it too. also Vimana sounds like a brand of women's shaving lotion, so that name sucks. but I'll be real here, Phenom was my idea first in the comments and I really want that bike, especially since i have no money haha

It has to be Vimana, its original, and the meaning is much more significant than the others! a flying machine made from more advanced and complex technology than anything known today..... says it all! All the other names have been used on loads of bikes, cars, bands, well really the list goes on and one!

One One Scandal
Specialized Phenom
MirraCo Icon
WeThePeople Envy
Dekerf Prodigy (also, there used to be a Giant Prodigy, although I don't think it's in their lineup anymore)
Daemon used to be a company that made motorized bicycles (not motorcycles...)
Lucid Cycles is the name of a custom frame maker in Park City

Soul Cycles has a bike named the Icon. Archetype would be my choice of those. Most unique, makes the most sense for that frame.

I think I like Vimana just for the originality aspect and no one would know what the hell it means. But, I must say there's one I'd eliminate right off and that's Lucid. Lucid is not a noun, it's an adjective (e.g. lucid dream). I can't imagine saying I ride "a lucid". Just thinking it would sound really stupid. I don't know why I think about these things but I do.

I know it's been said above, but most of those names just sound like typical 2 cent modern brand names. For example, there is already a phone, and a computer by the name of "Envy." This bike is a really unique new product what with the new dropout design and really slung back geo. It should have a fittingly unique name. Morpheus should not be pressured into resorting to these types of "safe" marketing names. Honestly it makes me respect the bike less when I hear that they would be willing to slap some lame name like Envy on it. Vimana and Scandal get my vote as the most unique ones of the bunch. Just my opinion as a consumer.

The Vimana idea has more meaning, and all the other names are re-cycled so guess i hope that one wins. Morpheus Vimana is a f'in mouthfull though, so it won't...damn i wish it was my job to name bikes

In regards to the very different look of the frame. I would suggest calling it the "Morpheus Metamorph" Starts with an M so it rolls off the tongue, and the repetition of the Morph covers the brand name well. "He rides a Metamorph" everyone would know what bike you are referring to.

All those names are weak, sound like something specialized would use on a geek trail bike. Maybe use scadal but scandalous may be better considering these cheesy looking rear dropouts.

It should be called the Morpheus CLAY. Clay being the bikes fave surface to perform on. Also reminds me of Cassius Clay, who was the best of the best.
