so basically when he built his bike he wanted to go as far away from the norm as possible when it came to speccing it up?????

The most impressive part is how you are able to go up steep hills in the woods without skidding, on a singlespeed bike, after a snowstorm. Second best is the log ride. Everything was pretty amazing though.

14 speed internal. Like a gear box in the hub.
  • + 3
flag krys1993 (Nov 29, 2012 at 22:47)
The drivetrain makes good sense. The belt is softer in the cold then a chain making it easier to crank and no seizing. The internal hub gearbox is to keep him in the right gear enabling him to have loads of grip.

 Hardcore hardtail riding.
  • + 0
flag VTwintips (Nov 30, 2012 at 10:26)
Nevertheless, his unrelenting ability to maintain friction is still amazing to me. The gear-hub is a very good idea. The fat that the belt requires the frame to be split is a huge drawback though. That and the fact that there isn't really anything you can do about a FS bike with chainstay growth/reduction.
  • + 2
flag Borgschulze (Nov 30, 2012 at 12:43)
There is a ton of ways to get around the chain growth issue, as well as the splitting the frame issue. Very easily actually.

but how did he keep his mars bar soft that's the real conundrum, when i take mine out in conditions like that it goes rock solid and you have to snap it when you bite it

dont wanna sound like a moany git, but i can't find the point when he sits on his mars bar....its not the moment before he eats it thats for sure.
  • + 1
flag plwaidner (Dec 2, 2012 at 22:06)
Haha, after looking at it closer, I think its just a slight goof in the editing or whatever. At 2:22 he definitely sets the bar down where he's going to sit, but in the very next shot when he's sitting down its no longer there.
  • + 3
flag forkbrayker (Dec 5, 2012 at 14:02)
??? Na! buddy he puts the mars bar on the table next to his drink. then sits in the space he made for his ass, then eats his strangely warm mars bar....lol, my wife has just ask what i'm huffin and puffing about......i'm too embarrassed to tell her its about whether or not some german dude sat on a mars bar or not.....think we need to kill this thread

Great rider, good to see others riding in the snow, i've been doing it for years, I'm using scwalbe 2.3 ice spikers and they are insane on ice, not so good in deep snow, but then again nothing is, I might have to start bringing a shovel.

If this vid and it being 60 F and sunny right now in SLC is any inclination of things to come we will be riding dry trails all winter.....we need the water though!
