The creators over at Life Cycles sent through an update on where they sit on the ETA of their masterpiece.
Info on the film inside... If you are reading this you are probably a person that is eagerly awaiting your copy of
Life Cycles. We can appreciate your position and trust us we have been on the other end of this type of anticipation. We actually held off 6 months from shooting our film in 2008 waiting to get our hands on a Red One camera.
The challenges we are facing have resulted in us not being able to meet our projected delivery of Oct 18.
We have had a few big issues in bringing this to your home on time. One is the packaging, which we had been told would take 12 business days. It has now been pushed to almost a month. Second we went with a recycled package and that ended up taking a lot more time than we had been made aware off. The third is that we had some very serious issues with the quality of the DVD s we had received. This was a very important set back because there is no way we wanted to send a single DVD out that we didn’t feel was at the quality it should be. We have worked way too hard, to not see the film through this final step.
The BluRay’s have seen their own issues, but so far the biggest has been getting the menus to operate properly.
We have been trying to get exact dates from both our distributor and our supplier and we cannot get a nailed down date that our film will ship. Trust us when we say we are more eager than you to see the film in people’s hands.
Once we have any concrete information we will post it on both Pinkbike.com and our Facebook to keep you informed.
When you get your film we hope that any ill will will be washed away and you’ll see that we are truly just looking out for our audience.
Life Cycles Crew
At least you are not being like *some* bike companies out there that get a grand idea then rush it through production.
I saw the premiere in Nelson and it was epic. I'm going again to the one in Burnaby because, like most of you, I want to watch this movie over and over and over. Since my DVD isn't here I'm going to support these guys further by going to another premiere and enjoying this fantastic film.
I believe my VISA was charged too (I pre-ordered before pinkbike announced it on the homepage ) but I really don't care because I KNOW I'll get the product I want. Derek and Ryan are stand up guys so everyone just shut the hell up, learn to be patient and go for a god damn bike ride.
ya cant blame them for being pissed ... i would be too.
seems fair.... don't it?
The company obviously did not have enough manpower to complete the packing order on time and promised a delivery date they could not meet.
Did the editor working on the DVD not send you guys a master? If not...WOW.
And whoever was doing the BluRay authoring (menu creation) seems to not know what they're doing either.
Was the crew doing the post production, or did they send it to a place to get done? If it's the latter, that place should be giving you guys back a lot of money...
I AGREE WITH THE WORDS BELLOW........
"so no date seriously? and no update? pretty disappointing... i preordered a copy thinking id be watching it before i went skiing not for xmas. truly a marketing fail.... oh just saw in the comments might be shipping out soon... WHY NOT PUT THAT UP TOP?!"
"NEVER going to pre-order again"
"OK so why is it good enough for all these Premiers, but not good enough to ship? Just curious...That's all! Kind of weird business to me."
" your information is incorrect - my Visa CC statement shows PB charging me on 1st September 2010 - I had actually placed the pre order at the end of August - so yes I must be a wizard"
" I think our money has been invested somewhere... 3 months in a thrust at 15 % that could mean a lot of money to them !
Not stoked anymore."
"I honestly don't even want to see this anymore"

General practice for our store is to not charge pre orders, as per most any other online store.
And when your card is processed you should have received an email update from Arvic, the processing company we use, stating your card was charger."
I've received no communication from anyone connected to PB or your processing company since placing my order 2 months ago, which I am puzzled about as PB has a great PM system, and you have our email addresses held against our PB accounts?
the only evidence I have of my purchase, is that I have my Visa credit card statement, which is sitting in front of me right now
let's make this clear - I am sure the LIFE CYCLES movie is going to be a "game changer" to borrow a phrase - I have NOT bought any bike movies in nearly 3 years as they have basically bored the sh*t of me (i.e. latest NWD) - I completely understand that delays happen, and I am sorry to hear about these production problems...no one wants that to happen!
but according to Visa, i have been charged, and have nothing to put in my Blu-Ray player?
Also, please don't release it on iTunes before you ship the hardcopy... I got all butthurt when my card was charged, and I didn't have my DVD when Follow-Me was released, and yet my buddy'd already downloaded it on iTunes. I thought that sucked.
Oh, and is there any chance you could release a V2 teaser to tide us over until the real thing comes in?!?!
Oh, and thanks for keeping us updated. it's nice to not be in the dark.
Or not. They do not process Credit Cards until the day that the products leave their hands and are enroute to the customers, so these delays are in fact costing them money, not the end user.
Sounds like we have a little bit of a confusion here. Any of the pre orders done through the Pinkbike.com store, as well as any back ordered orders do not get charged until we have the product.
sorry all this information is completely bogus - I was charged - my Visa credit card statement clearly states "01/09/10 (1st September 2010) pinkbike.com calgary AB CAN$35.49 @ 1.597210 CANADIAN DOLLAR - GBP £22.22"
after placing my order, I received no email or any further communication, the only way I knew I had pre-ordered was when my credit card statement showed up! and I have heard nothing since, apart from posts on PB news where the film maker has explained the delays
fair enough you have duplication delays (it happens!!) making what is looking to be an excellent film, and as a company that imports Devinci into the UK we are very keen to see the Devinci bikes and factory in the film
however, you've had my money for 2 months now, and I have nothing to show! our other shop also placed a seperate order to mine, for several SD DVD and were charged immediately, and have nothing to show or any communication!
you guys really need to learn how to operate proper custom service in the on-line store, and not take customers money for pre-orders, which is actually illegal in the EU
as an example I pre-ordered HBO's WWII drama "The Pacific" TV box-set on HD Blu-Ray from Play.com over 4 months ago, and was only charged on Thursday when it was in stock and ready to ship, and I received my goods this morning
"life lessons: who not to do business with when making a product."
MOST IMPORTANT. NO MONEY SHOWS UP IN OUR ACCOUNTS UNTIL THIS MOVIE SHIPS. I know some of you have been charged but most people aren't suppose to be charged until the DVD's ship from Pinkbike. We do not get any money from pre-orders until the movie ships. We're not running around spending your money and I've included this link to show you I'm not loaded. 3 pictures up from the bottom is a picture of my mini-van.

Sadly a week after this picture was taken the tranny started to go out on her and I'm currently bumming rides until the money from the pre-orders shows up. I don't tell you this to get any pity, i've chosen to be an action sports filmmaker but, I just want people to know we aren't trying to scam you. Please except our apology for the delay and I promise we are doing all we can to get these DVD's/Blu-rays shipped out as fast as possible. Thank You everyone for your support, your pre-orders, and your patience. Ryan Gibb.
if you ever find yourself in san diego and need a ride, just holler at me...i'll be more than happy to give you a lift.......in trade for a couple free copies of the movie
keep up the good work Life Cycles...
No complaints here guys. What you guys are doing / did was and is amazing. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to get my copy with it shows up!!
Soon it will be better if you send some ski movie instead since we are soon into that season .
Still looking forward to see the movie though since the trailer is amazing!
I don't think you would be complaining (to no effect) over here at Pinkbike if you minded your 'hard work'.
Allow me to present this under a different light: It's 31 dollars. Whatever it may take to get it delivered to your very home won't be much, but even so, let's make it twice that, for good measure. Still: you're paying 60 bucks for a piece of work that's occupied a handful of people for years. If we want to get as inadequate as some here seem to be, consider that people are willing to pay 150 million US dollars for what is - pragmatically - a 30-square-feet piece of fiberboard with some oil paint mess on it. Look up Jackson Pollock's "No.5, 1948" if you're in the dark. That's (at least) 2500000 Life Cycles DVD's, which is probably nowhere close to the number that will actually be ever made.
On the other hand, what you will eventually receive for those say 60 bucks is a full-length work of cinematographic art which - rather masterfully - focuses on something many of us consider a lifelong passion. If that's not worth the wait, I don't know what is.
Either way, that film crew has certainly gone through a beating already while making the film. If people will go on b*tching about having to wait to get a bloody DVD, it may well happen that in the future, that'll make for one less group of people making the world of mountainbiking that bit less spectacular.
Have you actually had a chance to see the film? How do you feel its been over hyped? Life Cycles marks such a massive step for filming and the mountain biking appearance in general. I find it hard to believe you think its over hyped, after all the only massive delay has been production. As well, the guys at Life Cycles didn't do any MASSIVE promotion or sponsor grabs, they have been simply trucking along on a 6 year project and are finally stoked enough to show it to people.
As well I noted to oraclebigfoot below, we haven't charged any cards for pre orders. Life Cycles does not see any of that money until long after you order your DVD and sit down to enjoy it, so the idea of them "taking your money without providing a product" is impossible.
Simply put after putting so much time, and effort into something I am sure you would want it to look pristine. It would be much worse for them to launch the DVD and for it to look bad right?
Hope you understand.
I really hope the sponsorship was enough to cover costs and that the makers earn enough to cover some of their time. I am happy to pre-pay for this and give something back to them for what I suspect took significant sacrifice on their part.
There is nothing going on here except a high quality film crew making sure you receive a quality movie. It's as simple as that! NO CONSPIRACY HERE!
