Life Cycles Film - Update

Nov 2, 2010
by Jordan Holmes
The creators over at Life Cycles sent through an update on where they sit on the ETA of their masterpiece.

Info on the film inside...

If you are reading this you are probably a person that is eagerly awaiting your copy of Life Cycles. We can appreciate your position and trust us we have been on the other end of this type of anticipation. We actually held off 6 months from shooting our film in 2008 waiting to get our hands on a Red One camera.

The challenges we are facing have resulted in us not being able to meet our projected delivery of Oct 18.

We have had a few big issues in bringing this to your home on time. One is the packaging, which we had been told would take 12 business days. It has now been pushed to almost a month. Second we went with a recycled package and that ended up taking a lot more time than we had been made aware off. The third is that we had some very serious issues with the quality of the DVD s we had received. This was a very important set back because there is no way we wanted to send a single DVD out that we didn’t feel was at the quality it should be. We have worked way too hard, to not see the film through this final step.

The BluRay’s have seen their own issues, but so far the biggest has been getting the menus to operate properly.

We have been trying to get exact dates from both our distributor and our supplier and we cannot get a nailed down date that our film will ship. Trust us when we say we are more eager than you to see the film in people’s hands.

Once we have any concrete information we will post it on both Pinkbike.com and our Facebook to keep you informed.

When you get your film we hope that any ill will will be washed away and you’ll see that we are truly just looking out for our audience.

They worked so hard on it, it would be a shame to wreck it by shipping out a half-done product. Stoked to see it when it's all ready to go. Worth the wait.

Agreed, and I'm glad they have told everyone how its just not worked out rather than just hiding it and keeping us waiting that way...

Just from looking and playing with the cut footage and b-roll for life cycles, i can guarantee this movie sends mountain bike movies to a whole new level. Gone are the days of the New World Disorder, as good as they are, where you just point and shoot, little thought is put into angle or visual techniques, I noticed that they were using jibs and cranes in certain shots for this movie, i stand corrected to say that this has never been done before. The angles are well thought out and planned, every shot seems to have a purpose and a statement behind it. This is what i look for in filmmanship and i truly do look forward to purchasing this movie. To all you haters out there, these are minor set backs, in todays society people pay for something and want it right away, dont pre-order it if you expect it right away. Secondly, why are you ripping the guys who filmed this, they have put their blood, sweat and tears into this film and it will show. I know if i was handling these situations i would want my film to look the best it possibly can, from packaging to dvd quality. So lay off these guys, atleast they have the common courtesy to let all you hating pinkbike users know whats going on. You'll all get your movie in time, be patient and maybe try riding your bike, watching the teaser, or learn not to pre-order a product when there may be mass production setbacks like any other dvd would have

measure twice. cut once. If you have pride in your work you do what you gotta do...

Listen to Spoiledgoods. Why aren't people being so understanding? All pre-orders will get their product around the same time. If you have seen the movie, you obviously know that these guys aren't cutting ANY corners. This is by far one of the best, if not highest quality filming and cinemetography in a mtb movie, if not any sports movie to date. And to rush such a project into an ill-formatted product for mass-consumption would be a tragedy. Let them take their time. Believe me its worth it.

If its delayed, then its only late til it comes out....if its crappy quality, then its crappy forever. Take your time and do it right I say...

As a small business owner who makes one off custom products, I understand what you guys are going through. It can be maddening at times. Do what you need to do.
At least you are not being like *some* bike companies out there that get a grand idea then rush it through production.

People need to relax.... This isn't a scam and anyone who thinks it is is clearly as smart as a brick.

I saw the premiere in Nelson and it was epic. I'm going again to the one in Burnaby because, like most of you, I want to watch this movie over and over and over. Since my DVD isn't here I'm going to support these guys further by going to another premiere and enjoying this fantastic film.

I believe my VISA was charged too (I pre-ordered before pinkbike announced it on the homepage Razz ) but I really don't care because I KNOW I'll get the product I want. Derek and Ryan are stand up guys so everyone just shut the hell up, learn to be patient and go for a god damn bike ride.

why don't you guys(lifecycles/pinkbike, whoever is sitting on this cash gaining interest) credit the peoples credit cards that you charged , until the order ships?
ya cant blame them for being pissed ... i would be too.

seems fair.... don't it?

This is actually not a production issue, but a post production issue. It sounds like the company they're working with are amateurs.

The company obviously did not have enough manpower to complete the packing order on time and promised a delivery date they could not meet.

Did the editor working on the DVD not send you guys a master? If not...WOW.

And whoever was doing the BluRay authoring (menu creation) seems to not know what they're doing either.

Was the crew doing the post production, or did they send it to a place to get done? If it's the latter, that place should be giving you guys back a lot of money...

Why do so many people not understand that Life Cycles is meant to be a high quality biking movie and on that same note it needs to be presented as one. These drawbacks and delays are necessary if you want the top quality product THAT YOU PAYED FOR to be on your doorstep. Why would you spend money for anything less than the best?

WHERE IS MY COPY?????????????????????? PRE-ORDER NEVERMORE

I AGREE WITH THE WORDS BELLOW........

"so no date seriously? and no update? pretty disappointing... i preordered a copy thinking id be watching it before i went skiing not for xmas. truly a marketing fail.... oh just saw in the comments might be shipping out soon... WHY NOT PUT THAT UP TOP?!"

"NEVER going to pre-order again"

"OK so why is it good enough for all these Premiers, but not good enough to ship? Just curious...That's all! Kind of weird business to me."

" your information is incorrect - my Visa CC statement shows PB charging me on 1st September 2010 - I had actually placed the pre order at the end of August - so yes I must be a wizard"

" I think our money has been invested somewhere... 3 months in a thrust at 15 % that could mean a lot of money to them !
Not stoked anymore."

"I honestly don't even want to see this anymore"

It's real nice to see people who take the time to ensure the product they are producing is produced correctly. However, I've got to feel for anyone who pre-ordered this film. This is exactly why I won't pre-order.
  • 1 1
The only problem in this case is the anticipation. Those who pre-ordered aren't out any money, so its not big deal.
  • 2 0
Except I'm pretty sure my credit card was charged close to two months ago.
  • 2 1
"A couple of orders were charged just to make sure that the processing was correct and ready to go.
General practice for our store is to not charge pre orders, as per most any other online store.
And when your card is processed you should have received an email update from Arvic, the processing company we use, stating your card was charger."

I've received no communication from anyone connected to PB or your processing company since placing my order 2 months ago, which I am puzzled about as PB has a great PM system, and you have our email addresses held against our PB accounts?

the only evidence I have of my purchase, is that I have my Visa credit card statement, which is sitting in front of me right now

let's make this clear - I am sure the LIFE CYCLES movie is going to be a "game changer" to borrow a phrase - I have NOT bought any bike movies in nearly 3 years as they have basically bored the sh*t of me (i.e. latest NWD) - I completely understand that delays happen, and I am sorry to hear about these production problems...no one wants that to happen!

but according to Visa, i have been charged, and have nothing to put in my Blu-Ray player?

its a new mtn bike movie stoked no matter what take as long as you guys need people need to stop bitching and ride bikes for in the mean time then when the movie comes in youl apreicate your little bicycle ever so much more Smile
  • 1 0
Well hopefully the film makers can learn their lesson and source out better companies to create their final product next time. The movie looks dope! I'm sure it will live up to the hype and set the bar for mountain bike movies... and cheesy, cliche narration. Smile
  • 1 0
It's worth the wait for it to be at the quality intended! Saw the premiere in Santa Cruz and the movie was inspiring and I'm definitely getting it for the home. Thanks for making a quality product and a work of fine art!
  • 1 0
It'll be worth the way. For that I'm sure. You guys put all your heart in this project so I can understand your frustration atm. In the end we will all be smiling and enjoying the movie even more...
  • 1 1
I really wanted to support the film makers with this project by pre-ordering. This has taken so long my credit card has expired. I now have the dilemma of reordering when it is eventually released. I was really looking forward to seeing the incredible cinematography, but doubt that I will attempt to pay again. To Life Cycles, I love your work but cannot wait any longer.
  • 1 0
 Cool Story Sis........
  • 1 1
I've pre-ordered, card has not been charged. I repeat, not been charged. But I'm still eagerly awaiting my copy, I hope this all gets worked out soon.

Also, please don't release it on iTunes before you ship the hardcopy... I got all butthurt when my card was charged, and I didn't have my DVD when Follow-Me was released, and yet my buddy'd already downloaded it on iTunes. I thought that sucked.

Oh, and is there any chance you could release a V2 teaser to tide us over until the real thing comes in?!?!

Oh, and thanks for keeping us updated. it's nice to not be in the dark.
  • 2 2
The only problem in this case is the anticipation. Those who pre-ordered aren't out any money, so its not big deal.

Or not. They do not process Credit Cards until the day that the products leave their hands and are enroute to the customers, so these delays are in fact costing them money, not the end user.

Sounds like we have a little bit of a confusion here. Any of the pre orders done through the Pinkbike.com store, as well as any back ordered orders do not get charged until we have the product.

sorry all this information is completely bogus - I was charged - my Visa credit card statement clearly states "01/09/10 (1st September 2010) pinkbike.com calgary AB CAN$35.49 @ 1.597210 CANADIAN DOLLAR - GBP £22.22"

after placing my order, I received no email or any further communication, the only way I knew I had pre-ordered was when my credit card statement showed up! and I have heard nothing since, apart from posts on PB news where the film maker has explained the delays

fair enough you have duplication delays (it happens!!) making what is looking to be an excellent film, and as a company that imports Devinci into the UK we are very keen to see the Devinci bikes and factory in the film Smile

however, you've had my money for 2 months now, and I have nothing to show! our other shop also placed a seperate order to mine, for several SD DVD and were charged immediately, and have nothing to show or any communication!

you guys really need to learn how to operate proper custom service in the on-line store, and not take customers money for pre-orders, which is actually illegal in the EU Frown

as an example I pre-ordered HBO's WWII drama "The Pacific" TV box-set on HD Blu-Ray from Play.com over 4 months ago, and was only charged on Thursday when it was in stock and ready to ship, and I received my goods this morning

  • 2 1
Dude I could wait for days for this. It's just too good to have to have right away if you know what I mean.
  • 8 11
This is freaking bull! I will never pre order another movie again. Meanwhile life cycles is doing who knows what with my money. Everyone that pre ordered it should get it for free for having to wait months and probably more. Oh and life cycles stop posting your teaser on all your updates, we dont want to watch it anymore. We just want our movie we paid for!
  • 14 1
I don't know if anyone is more frustrated by this delay then us. We had the film to the posthouse on Sept 28th which by any standards is plenty of time to get the DVD's out the door. The posthouse we are using are not amateurs by any means, they've work on Hollywood movies and that's what makes it even more frustrating, we expect the best and the first pass came back much less then perfect. Our biggest set back at this moment is packaging. We switched to an eco friendly package and for some reason beyond my comprehension they can't hit the dates they initially promised. The hardest thing for us to swallow is all of these delays have been totally out of our hands. I feel like flying down to LA and throwing a couple of throat punches.

MOST IMPORTANT. NO MONEY SHOWS UP IN OUR ACCOUNTS UNTIL THIS MOVIE SHIPS. I know some of you have been charged but most people aren't suppose to be charged until the DVD's ship from Pinkbike. We do not get any money from pre-orders until the movie ships. We're not running around spending your money and I've included this link to show you I'm not loaded. 3 pictures up from the bottom is a picture of my mini-van.

www.pinkbike.com/news/interbike-2010-products.html#top

Sadly a week after this picture was taken the tranny started to go out on her and I'm currently bumming rides until the money from the pre-orders shows up. I don't tell you this to get any pity, i've chosen to be an action sports filmmaker but, I just want people to know we aren't trying to scam you. Please except our apology for the delay and I promise we are doing all we can to get these DVD's/Blu-rays shipped out as fast as possible. Thank You everyone for your support, your pre-orders, and your patience. Ryan Gibb.

if the video is half as good as the trailer hypes it up, i'm ok waiting a little bit longer. plus i cant argue with someone who actually cares enough to use eco-freindly packaging.
if you ever find yourself in san diego and need a ride, just holler at me...i'll be more than happy to give you a lift.......in trade for a couple free copies of the movie Razz

keep up the good work Life Cycles...
  • 1 0
Patience is a virtue. I can wait. Can we download "Life Cycles' from iTunes?
  • 1 0
C'mon guys, this movie is going to be sick, who cares if it takes a bit longer. I think that addressing quality issues is more important than a due date. "Everyone who pre-ordered should get it for free"........?? Huh? So nobody else is waiting for this?
  • 1 0
ya I was wondering when it will be available on iTunes too?
  • 1 0
The video will be up on ITunes but not right away and im sure the wait will pay off, I saw the video at the Prince George premiere and I have to say you guys will be in awe when u see the time lapse shots. Good job LifeCycles
  • 2 0
Ya guys, I was at the Vancouver premier and your going to be blown away. I admit waiting is frustrating, but I've been waiting for the last couple years to see it, so I can wait another month.

No complaints here guys. What you guys are doing / did was and is amazing. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to get my copy with it shows up!!
  • 1 0
DVD/Bluray is dead. Release it online instead and you won't have all this hussle. Much cheaper as well, plus far more eco friendly since there is no plastic discs and no shipping.

Soon it will be better if you send some ski movie instead since we are soon into that season Big Grin .

Still looking forward to see the movie though since the trailer is amazing!
