Before flying to Europe for World Cup racing he came up with an idea to do another banger! Not much to say, you just have to watch it. Pure shredding, big gaps, fast corners, and Motörhead music. Can it get any better?

Mike Hopkins - A History of Riding Big Lines with My Brother: My older brother Joe and I grew up on bikes, so naturally when bike movies became a thing, we had those things on Repeat. The Kranked series was the tip of the iceberg for us and it blew our minds that a handful of the athletes and film makers lived in our tiny little town of Rossland BC. Growing up this place was like the wild west of freeride mountain biking. Our crew of over energetic young guns would hit the trails, watch bike films, stop at the grocery store for drinks, and be face to face with the wild-men of the silver screen. It was about all a kid could handle. Naturally for a couple of impressionable young bloods like my brother and I, it was a case of monkey see, monkey do, and we went for it. We'd steal our mom's car, and go track down the biggest lines we could find... it was incredible. We'd throw ourselves in way over our head and either be home for dinner or in the hospital. It felt like we were playing in the big leagues. These experiences and films left a lasting impression on me ,and when I went pro I set my sites on pursing the childhood dream of riding the biggest lines I could find. My career has taken me in a number of different directions and well, it's been a few years since my brother and I dropped in on the unstoppable... so I figured I'd remedy that... and oh did it make for an hell of a day! Bro: Joseph Hopkins. Bud: Kevin Erwin. Film: Simon Hillis.

Team Shredits Vol. I - Nic Court: Nic rips some of his local favourites in the Cowichan Valley for Vol. I of the new Cowichan Cycles team "shredit" series.

Empty Spaces - Emil Johansson: During winter, this park is a regular ride spot for me. I've been riding there since 2015 and it was where I filmed my previous skatepark edit "XXII.XI". Location: Robbans Bmx & Skate Hall in Heby, Sweden. Video: Niklas Wallner.

The We Are One Blood Drive Initiative: In early October, 2020, Dustin Adams took a digger on a trail that he'd ridden dozens of times. He got himself to the bottom but knew that things weren't ok. His riding partners were able to drive him to the local hospital where he had to go into the Emergency room on his own accord, due to Covid restrictions. This is where he collapsed. Dustin was rushed into surgery where Doctors discovered that he had ruptured his spleen and was bleeding badly internally. They repaired his spleen and Dustin received a blood transfusion of five units during surgery that helped save his life. Back at the factory, production manager Dustin Windross (regular blood donator) decided that it would be beneficial to look into what it would take to have a company wide blood drive. As a user group, mountain bikers likely receive more blood, post crash than we donate. The Canadian Blood Service was contacted and six months later there was a blood drive in Kamloops where 53 first time donors came forward to donate on Mr.Adam's behalf. Being involved in any action sport has its risks, many that we try to minimize but mistakes happen, to all of us. We hope that this inspires others to also give back before they themselves are in need.

Christian Rigal - Still United: When you film for a full length DVD like 'Still United' it's key to push the boat out and really make it count. Well Christian Rigal didn't do just that, instead he blasted the boat down some epic handrails at mach 10. It's no secret the man like to grind but jeez, this really is something. From terrifying backwards rollercoasters, 30+ set peg grinds, and monster curved rails, this has all burly areas of modern day street riding more than covered. The man has definitely got a screw loose. Video: Peter Adam.

Cultcrew Florida 2021: Chase Hawk, Dakota Roche, and Sean Ricany tearing it up.

Simone Barraco - 10 Years with Shadow and Subrosa: Can you believe it? Simone Barraco has riding for Subrosa and The Shadow Conspiracy for 10 years now and to celebrate we've got a big year planned. Starting with this edit, which is a mix of the best of Simone's clips, and some his favourites from all of his Subrosa and Shadow edits over the years.

What The P-Rod? Paul Rodriguez has still got it.

Ryan Decenzo's "Sender Bender" Part: Ryan's been a heavyweight for over a decade, but his rampage is far from over. This part is loaded with enders, but his closing shot is in a league of its own. No wonder Phelper said, “This dude rules!"

NBA All Star Kyrie Irving Skateboarding: Seven-time NBA All Star — and 2016 NBA champion — Kyrie Irving broke every rule in his Nike contract to come skate with us at the defunct Sixth & Mill SB training facility. Was it worth it? See for yourself in this classic First Try Friday.

Kayaking Patagonia's Three Toughest Rivers With Nouria Newman: French kayaker Nouria Newman attempts the Patagonia Triple Crown with Eric Boomer and Ben Stookesberry. Experience the highs and lows of the adventure as they kayak through Chile's beautiful countryside, encountering challenging rapids and stunning scenery.

One Breath Around The World: Turn out the lights, put your headphones on, and freedive with me around the world.

New Life: Parenthood is an adventure like no other, not least in the world of adventure, where reward is constantly measured against potential risk. From fear of losing sponsors to the challenge of maintaining their expedition-led lifestyles, “New Life” chronicles the journey of The North Face’s Caroline Ciavaldini and James Pearson and documents the shifting priorities that come with raising a son in a world that revolves around climbing and outdoor exploration.

The fact that one of the most popular trails at the most popular resorts is easily ridable on a BMX is a pretty sad reflection on where MTB is at...

To be fair it didn’t look that enjoyable

I see moms/dads all the time letting their 4 year old ride their little bike on double black trails, then complain that thay are to dangerous for "everyone" to ride..... i guess thats why trails are getting easier and easier...... there is a huge drop and my kid fell down it we are going to sue...... slow the hell down (on the pro-line) my little kid is riding hear. ect ect.

the trusty BMX with the rusty brakes

Problem is braking causing braking bumps, no need to brake = no braking bumps, but having riders of different levels riding one trails will not stay smooth for long!

There's a reason its a popular, it's a machine built trail that's very accessible with no features of any real consequence. It makes total sense that you could ride it with a BMX. I'm sure most of the riders who go down that trail on the daily could also do it on a dirt jump bike with no issues. Now lets see Goats Gully or Indeep on a BMX.

If something is popular it will not be hard. Because most people don’t enjoy doing hard things. And even if they did gatekeepers would come along and use the competence of the masses as evidence that it’s not hard.

Anyway, don’t be too worried about dirt merchant. I’m much more concerned about the fact that most systems “black” would be a green in whistler.

Pilgrim rode Whistler on a Walmart Klunker.... This is nothing..

Saying this is easily ridden is a bit of an overstatement. It's a big jump trail so of course it's smooth, but if you're not clearing the jumps it's painful on any bike, especially a bmx of a gravel grinder or a trike, or whatever. I'd agrue this is exactly where big jump trails should be and what they should look like. They have the resources to keep them in great shape, and not sure who some of these people are riding with, but I've never seen anyone on dirt merchant under 10 who wasn't a way better rider than me.

@Linc The reality is that most resort trails are just fire roads with features.

I mean dont get me wrong I like a good tech trail but just because this dude rode it on the bms bike doesn't mean you or I could to any degree of success. There is Plenty of gnarly technical riding to be had at the particular park Im more then sure.
  • 4 0
@RMWB: No features of any real consequence? I think the drops at 1:33 and 1:57 could end your day if you screwed them up badly enough.
  • 4 0
@barp: Yah i'm thinking most of the parks aren't gnarly comments are from people who haven't ever ridden park. Im a tech trail type dude but can say a day of lift laps on fairly sizable jump lines makes for an amazing and tiring day of riding.

@king-joe: This wades into a whole area that annoys me: grading trails based on danger alone, and not the level of skill required to ride them. These are different concepts. So many trail centres mess this up. A smooth flow trail with big jumps is easy to ride, but has high consequences for failure. It's also the perfect combination of encouraging squids to go out and hurt themselves.

We need waaaay more trails that are build as double blacks because of the skill level required to get down, but not because of the danger or consequences for failure. Give me a rake and slight rocky incline, and I could produce a 'double black' difficult trail in a few hours with zero berms and zero jump.

@RMWB: "no features of any real consequence". Tell that to the Whistler and Lionsgate ER. you d*ck
  • 1 2
@RideThicccBC: people go to the ER from crashes on bike paths. If you've managed to make it to the start of DM without any idea for the skill required to ride that trail your either an idiot or a masochist. My point is that there are no mandatory drops, no gap jumps, and the exposure is very low.
  • 1 3
@barp: both of which have ride arounds

@Linc: Your comment is interesting, but also confusing. Are you saying trails are currently graded based on danger and should be graded based on skill? Personally I think they should be graded separately, but if we're using a single rating it seems like you need to be an expert to take on a high consequence trail like DM. It's not the sort of thing you want to be barely handling.

And could you elaborate on what kind of consequences/riding skill you're talking about? slow speed technical rock gardens come to mind, but I doubt that's what you mean. Seems like most really difficult technical moves involve pretty gnarly OTB possibilities for a non-expert rider.
  • 2 0
@Blackhat: Guess I’m saying a lot of thing. Yep - Separate danger and skill grading is what the sport needs. High skill low danger would be often just reflect trail speed, but also factor in, for example, tight rooty corners, off camber with difficult high lines, little natural gaps and hops, pinchy climbs etc
  • 2 0
@Linc: so basically a trail that most riders can handle, but that rides much different and faster for good riders. I definitely think those trails are underrated. One of my favorite trails is so easy I bring first timers there, but if you can carry speed every corner is a total blast, with lots of chances to wind up on the ground.

AS a whitewater guy - I'm glad to see a video in here - Nouria is a beast. I always tell my friends - it's just like DH - only the trail moves under you.

She is an amazing paddler - so much control and understands how to use the water very well, she started winning at the tail end of my slalom career. The French paddling system is incredible.

I know there's judgement and variables in everything, but top-dog kayaking is just nuts. So much out of their control.

@IamZOSO: but so cool and exciting to watch! Are there any good films I can watch?

Great to see a spotlight on blood donation. Rich or poor, just about all of us can donate blood. If you’ve ever been in the hospital, there’s a good chance you’ve had to receive it at one point or another. I can also remember when my uncle had leukaemia and needed regular transfusions... blood gave all of us precious extra months to spend with him before he died. It’s fantastic seeing the good our cycling community can do.

The Simone Barraco edit is the best riding AND edit I've seen in a looooong time. Great choice of music for the riding style, top-notch street riding I haven't seen since the Gonz days, and solid video editing. Makes me wanna ride.
