Slack Randoms: Wheelless Bikes, Schladming Laps, Wheelbarrow Sends & More

Jul 8, 2023
by Ed Spratt
We use Slack as our workplace communication tool at Pinkbike and we have a #randoms channel that we use to share an assortment of videos and stories from all corners of the cycling world and beyond... We thought a couple of the moments from the past week were too good not to share with a wider audience, so here are some of the highlights.

I'm disappointed in the wheel-less bike. I thought the planks would be turning.
  • 3 0
And generate electricity in the process!
  • 2 0
I could only ride that if I could not hear at all! OMG it sounds really bad. But it looks super cool and would get a lot of attention.

Holy that vid with Jack Moir is bananas… the speed he smashes berms is amazing
  • 6 0
That should be on the must watch list in my opinion.
  • 3 0
Whoever Big Chris is he's a ripper too.
  • 4 0
@Dustfarter: it’s Jacks team mate Christian Textor

If Q put his mind to it, he’d probably come up with one helluva rad full/highly effective suspension design. Even if it only fell apart after just a few laps around his favorite park, it’d be worth it.

how did veronika widman do in the final?
  • 9 6
Who downvotes this? It's a simple question. She got third, btw. timingzone.com/megavalanche-2023/#6_27A239

@ak-77: Always made me wonder why people say what you just said. So there is my question: why do you care if someone downvoted you? World is full of morons, most of us are opinionated idiots, defo plenty here in pinkbike comments, why do you care mate?
  • 11 8
@gooral: Me neither I don't care why I downvoted you.

 @ak-77: Because Google

@gooral: What makes you think I care about people downvoting me? I wasn't the one that was downvoted in this case. I was just wondering why people would downvote a post that expresses no opinion whatsoever, but contains only a question. Why would you be opposed to someone asking a question? @paulskibum hints at an answer below.
  • 2 1
@ak-77: At least 50% of all DVs are a mistake and there is no way to fix that on this platform so only be half-assed upset.

@ak-77: Veronika Widman english??? She is from italy

reply I received I from Nukeproof Bikes via Google/You Tube one minute ago

"3rd… there’s another wild video to come soon!!"

you can downvote paulskibum for being so quick with the snark when an adequate answer was not available on google 2 days ago

Love the 50 to 1 lot, proper mountain bicycling
  • 4 0
Agreed, it makes me want to go for a mountain bicycle ride.
  • 3 0
@woofer2609: How do you do, fellow mountain bicyclers?
  • 2 0
I feel like you, from the colonies, are not respecting the correct and proper way to describe our trifling little distraction. I shall be writing to your governors.
  • 1 0
@Peskycoots: Only one Governor here, old chap. Contact our Governor General, as in all sincerity, any law that makes it through the parliament and senate here stills needs Royal ascent from the King via the GC.

 @Peskycoot:
These lads are the funnest bunch of shredders I have seen since Wade was a kid in the North Shore. I love the 50:01 crew too mate incredible talent. I try to support their cause on their store. Pretty solid clothing for not full robbery.

A dude and his wheelbarrow. Ride what you brought.
  • 6 0
Not sure why I find that wheelless bike so funny. Maybe because I am a little lit? Respect to the work that went into though.
  • 7 0
I respect the fact that they didn't try and preach that this new "transmission" isn't going to revolutionize the sport.

 @Brave1i1toaster: Just wait...

Certainly because you just found it "entertaining", and it's enough for you. Mediocrity is bliss, isn't it?
  • 3 1
@danstonQ: What a mediocre attempt to show your assumed superiority.
  • 1 3
@WhateverBikes: it's not my fault if you only like it when the bar is low. You musn't feel alone though.

Bike with no wheels and no sense
  • 1 0
not as nonsensical as my 1" travel pogo stick
  • 3 5
Yes, Q is clearly bored and like most youtubers he likes to create hollow useless contents to exist. And it works 'cos mass people like to be entertained with easy lazy meaningless crap.
  • 2 0
@danstonQ: is ready the comments section any different? Just a different form of meaningless crap, but alas...
  • 1 0
Not sure what draws me to the "Hydraulic Press Channel", but really enjoyed the comment about tire pressure (so true) just double it (that's almost what I do anyways). or the "this will be exciting" only to find out not as exciting as the one before it... easy enough to fast-forward past the VPN promo.
  • 3 0
Did you catch his video with high pressure testing of a miniature carbon fiber hulled submersible? It was sort of inconclusive but I was amazed at how quickly he got the video out in response to current events.
  • 3 0
why go thru all the trouble for such a long track, and only use the end of the track? if the track were horizontal (like a military tank), you'd really have something.
  • 3 0
It’s not really going to be useful for anything. He did a video not long ago where he used basically the same tread design on square ‘wheels’. It worked but it’s not practical for anything.
  • 3 1
respect the work that went into it, but so many weird choices with that tank tread bike. just...why. there were so many ways to do that idea better.
  • 1 0
1 inch "wheels" get the Darwin award for "wheels"
  • 2 0
Sweet run by Ms. Widman! Not just dead last, but with delay as minor mechanical was dealt with, then just let it go. I'm not sure I wouldn't already be in the beer tent.

Veronika'run was such a great watch, what a warrior!
  • 1 0
That was indeed a good one. I'd like to know what these racers BPM are. I sound like that after 3 minute DH race.
  • 2 0
That MoiMoi tv episode was a wild one. Talk about flat out.

50to01 long edit of Nexus, I’ll put kettle on now!
  • 1 0
That 50to01 vid hit home with the TF music. Miss digging stupid stuff with my buddies.
  • 1 0
That tyre video. But according to Holywood you can puncture a car/lorry tyre with a knife, so it must be true
  • 1 0
Eh? I don't see how crush testing of a wheel and tire is comparable to stab testing a tire with a knife.
  • 1 0
You can easily puncture a car tire sidewall with a knife, (maybe not a BFG TA KO2.) Now cutting brake hoses with a pair of pliers as shown on the A-Team and Rockford Files? No way. (Yes, I've tried. And you don't get 3 pumps after they're cut before your brakes are gone either.)
  • 1 0
@woofer2609: If you have a deep-cycle car battery got can drive for a good while if your alternator dies.
  • 1 0
@suspended-flesh: not with 4 punctured tires and no brakes you can't.
  • 1 0
@woofer2609: I carry a puncture repair kit, sidewall patches, and a compressor. In 4-low I could limp out with only the e-brake.

Your move....
  • 1 0
@suspended-flesh: I stole your keys while you weren't looking.
  • 2 0
@woofer2609: Dammit. I had to hotwire it but I'm coming....good thing you didn't steal the battery
