Bienve had a huge crash on his canyon gap today, misjudging the speed from his stepdown above, and sending it deep to flat. Fortunately, after getting checked by medical staff and various scans in the hospital, he’s reportedly alright and will hopefully practice tomorrow. Absolutely wild.
"OMG ITS TOO DANGEROUS! I CAN'T WATCH! THE ORGANIZERS SHOULD STOP THEM FROM DOING SUCH DANGEROUS THINGS! CANCEL RAMPAGE! STOP THE MADNESS! THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!" - 90% of Pinkbike right now
@riccardoleumann: Lacondeguy was so far above everyone that year they couldn't not. But there's deffo a bias. Brendog, Bizet, McGarry, Godziek all 100% would have been on the top step if they'd been from NA
@Cocorico no best he's got has been 2nd, he should have but didn't grow up riding aptos/cali with the judges so isn't allowed to win
@Exbow: already been proved right, 2 of the sickest runs in history and TVB gets a higher score for a caveman and then a manicured jump trail to the bottom
@hgardner: Yeah, you have no clue how gnarly that line is or the judging criteria. I trust the legends of freeriding who are judging this comp over a rando Harry Potter fan on pinkbike LOL
I hope for the actual footage of the event they can get the camera zoomed a sensible amount, these crazy zoomed in shots are rubbish for understanding where the rider came from and is going
I appreciate showing the med staff checking in with him proving there is attention to the athletes well being. His line is going to be baller! So long as he can dial the speed…
Maybe it's camera artifact, but in the POV section, if you slow it down, the flex on that front wheel looks massive! I'm sure that's normal for this kind of abnormal riding, but damn... a bit disconcerting.
Every Friday there's no shortage of Pinkbikers scoffing at the unfortunates on Friday Fails for "riding above their skill level". Aren't these two recent crashes at Rampage also evidence of Gee and Bienve "riding above their skill level"? Yet somehow they're lauded as heroes, iron men, beasts and suchlike. Isn't there some inconsistency at play here?
yeh small crashes are very funny, we can also all relate because we've had similar experiences either personally or with mates. It's not about scoffing at people learning to ride.
Some of the fails on FF aren't funny but are more like wow holy shit moments.
Rampage is people pushing the limits of the sport, the equipment and the human condition and the crashes are massive so walking away or even surviving sometimes is impressive, that said everyone of us was a tough watch,
@tigerfish50: so would you rather not have any MTB events and just everything be a simulation? Professional riders are not the same as Friday fail riders. Educate yourself
@giantwhip: You should take some reading comprehension classes - that's not what I said. As for the pro riders - even the PB reports inform us they made very basic miscalculations - just as the FF riders do
@tigerfish50: We're humans, we all make miscalculations. How uneducated are you to think pro riders don't make mistakes. Might as well find a different site to vent negative thoughts.
Have you ever done a first hit on a new feature? Now, multiply that into a rampage line that has never been done before and is on the limit of what has ever been done on a bike. If you're off a little, you're going to have a bad time. They know the risk.
@giantwhip: Hooray! You're the poster child for remedial reading classes. It took a while but you managed to comprehend my comment and repeat it back to me in your own words. But it seems you're still missing the point. I wasn't criticizing the pro riders for making mistakes - I'm well aware we're all flawed - I was wondering why PB posters made fun of FF riders while treating the pros as mythic heroes when the results were exactly the same - catastrophic disaster! You're on a roll now - can you clear up this apparent irrationality?
Oh wonderful another big crash to entertain the masses and sell a few more tins of drink. Why do people seem to enjoy watching riders they admire getting hurt
We don't enjoy it. We enjoy the skill, effort and dedication they show towards the sport and respect that they are aware of what they are asking of themselves to do.
Cuz its lit if it is not a game of football and you can still win the league with the team that is in charge and you have a good team to play against but the game of the year will not end in the same league and the league will end with the team is a game where you can win
We don't like watching people get hurt. These guys are extremely good at what they do and they should be allowed to show their skill to us. Sometimes things go wrong. That's just the unfortunate reality. No one likes it but these guys wouldn't ever have a chance to show us what they could really do if they never took big risks ever.
I didn't know that companies weren't allowed to sponsor events anymore. I notice that you only complain about the title sponsor, not the other other sponsors. Care to explain?
@Cocorico no best he's got has been 2nd, he should have but didn't grow up riding aptos/cali with the judges so isn't allowed to win
Really hope Bienve is ok more importantly though.
Nice concise assessment.
