The second round of the 2019 EWS headed back to Derby, Tasmania for one of the rowdiest races to date. Big rocks, even bigger crowds and some fresh new faces on the podium - this race was one for the history books. Here are the full highlights from one of the most intense races in the series' history.
@Tombola27: nah he's not dude. rode with him the other day and he reckons he still prefers 27.5. Rode with him while he was trying a 29er but nah doesn't like it
It would be unfair to say that Isabeau Courdurier is winning just because Cecile Ravanel is not racing. Isabeau Courdurier was the best of the field in Tasmania.
Don't think many of the other girls did Crankworx either. Jill deserves a serious amount of credit for pulling a podium in her first real EWS race. She is going to be a threat for the rest of the season.
What I meant with 'fresh legs': all the other nine female Top 10 finishers at Tasmania did the EWS in Rotorua the week before, so they had two races in two weeks. One week is not enough to recover at the highest level, and Tasmania looks physically demanding.
and as I said from the beginning: "don’t get me wrong".
- Maes is absolutely crushing this season! - What's up with Sam Hill? They mentioned very briefly he was still sick, but is that all? - The real story here is we have a real battle between Master's bros! Wyn currently in the lead, with Eddie following closely behind. We need both to keep racing EWS and probably an entire mini series dedicated to Masters Vs Masters. Masters-Bowl for ultimate family superiority! (PB I volunteer to go to the remaining events to cover this very important story for you) - Great video and production quality! However I still can't stand Ric
Sam is racing with the Flu.
Most people curl up in bed and whinge like little children but he is still out there competing. Hopefully he will get some down time now before the next race to shake it off but even then, it will take him some while to regain his form.
That Melamed crash yeah ,been there done that, fatigue?or the to little low speed and not enough rebound with a high speed dialed a little bit to much, and not enough low speed rebound :-))),congrats Martin and isabeau and of course all the rest
He's allowed to race because a judgement hasn't come in yet, but it sounded like he's sitting out until everything is finalized. Seems like a class move ...
@sap: Also I heard he's hoping that if there's a suspension of some sort that he'll get "time served" back to the last time he raced, shortening his overall time off the bike.
absolute worst music in the vid. id rather just hear the bikes than this f*cking than this electro-imagine-dragon-nickleback trash. like f*ck you guys never heard of king gizzard? would've been much more fitting since theyre one of Australia's best bands to date.
Yes let's cater to every random dude that thinks his music is the best ever heard!
Short turn around video's use easily available stock music, then they try to appeal to the most possible people, this is not a conspiracy to hurt your ears. Put your King Gizzard on, mute the EWS video and viola, your dreams come true!
The tracks look amazing as does the crowds and there’s some serious talent turning up to these races now would be pretty cool if whoever organises these events actually finally pull their fingers out and sort some actual coverage of the races to do these events justice. My days of refreshing a webpage to see who’s winning a bike race is over.
I guess everyone’s happy with a total lack of content from a series with some of the best riders and race tracks in the world. I mean how hard is it to set up a few camera’s around the course for us to watch the riders come through? I could live stream my ride through Instagram if I wanted to yet the EWS can’t?
You can downvote me all you want but if you don’t ask you won’t receive and absolutely nobody can argue the case that they’re doing enough because they do absolutely nothing except a few pictures from practice and a ten min highlight video from a 50km race. Pull it out guys or the next hype train will be along and that will be it.
@thenotoriousmic: Wanna hear a story? During most of the 90's,I had to wait about 2 months or more for Mountain Bike Action (magazine) to arrive in the shops here in Portugal, so I would discover who won a world cup race. Enjoy your free content on the internet, and please get your head out of your ass.
@thenotoriousmic: Would you seriously watch cameras setup on random stages live streaming for 8 hours all day with no production/commentators? Just static frames of riders rolling through? No one wants to see that. To actually put a compelling live coverage together would be stupid expensive to get a passable product.
@nozes: yeah so did I. Guess what it’s not 1998 anymore. My head isn’t up my arse there’s absolutely no way of following the event other than refreshing the race feed on the EWS webpage. I’d like to heard your argument on how they’re actually doing enough to cover the event seeing there’s absolutely no coverage at all.
@gramboh yeah definitely. Use gps so you know where your favourite riders are on the course and pick the appropriate camera to watch them come through. Exactly how other events do it like marathon coverage or motorcycle enduro’s. I know they can’t cover it like a World Cup but they can give us something. Right now we’ve got nothing and it’s super boring.
Can't wait for the next round!

Some facts:
- Jill Kintner had 'fresh legs' since she ditched Crankworx NZ to focus on the Tasmania EWS.
- Rowena Fry knew the trails, as she stated on the video.
On a side note: Morgane Charre was on the fight until the crash on stage 5.

Also, when is Wyn TV gonna start covering the EWS?
