50to01 TV has strengthened my resolve to pop around on the trail more and try goofy parking lot tricks.

As the kids say these days, "jibbing"
  • 3 0
@motoboy36: and now you made me wanna dig up the VHS of Jib
  • 5 0
@motoboy36: Haha..yep. I remember that used to be a snowboarding term only. Then there's also messing up and "dabbing". Now dabbing is a silly arm move. Kids these days...I tell ya.

He puts on a cornering clinic with every video he's in. I just wish he'd host a real cornering clinic. It would be well worth the money and super entertaining.
  • 27 2
Although you'd need an interpret to understand everything he says. Wink
  • 4 1
@cool3: more like anything he says, but I'd definitely be down for the clinic.
  • 2 0
Wish there was a way to watch this is slow-mo or advance frame by frame!
  • 1 0
He puts on a clinic of most fun cornering techniques, not necessarily fastest. But, I wanna have fun!

This video is so opposite of my concept of Santa Cruz. Here in AZ every well healed retiree (pensioner) buys a Santa Cruz. So I constantly see grey haired 60+ year olds in " Stans no tubes" spandex doing loops on flat trails with their wives, each with a 6k dollar Santa Cruz. Many are from California, they likely associate the brand from their youth.

And they all voted for the dropper post for the best innovation in the past 20 yearsSmile
.

I have noticed it too, though I live in the bay area near santa cruz. I think its influenced by the high ticket, boutique-status the rich geezers like to portray (the price of sc bikes lend to their opulence).

 you guys sound like idiots

@nvranka: yeah for real... everyone knows it's really Specialized that the yuppies love to rock.
  • 46 1
@cuban-b: yuppies ride all kinds of bikes...and so do shredders
  • 54 5
Sounds like coachvernon worries too much about others instead of just living his life. Who gives a shit that retirees and their wives prefer SC?
It's all about what's important to you. For every a*shole that whines about bikes being too expensive there's a kid that flipped burgers and bought a $6k bike instead of drinking two redbulls a day.
  • 7 1
this is weird, here in Italy a lot of joeys own a santacruz
  • 8 1
a bad workman blames his tools... never about the bike, always about the rider!

 @bikeetc: you didn't?!

@skookumsalmonarm: no, most of the riding spots where im at its pedal up, then drop your seat and bomb down. no real need. thought about it few times like when i raced a super d in fontana.
  • 5 1
@kubaner: your the man for this. To many pussies in this sport
  • 32 1
I'm only 50. Still in SD. Bought the wife a bike but she won't ride. Still looking for this flat loop you speak of. Dickies hide my padded underwear. Voted for the dropper (thanks reverb). Grey haired. But let me know where you live so when I retire I can keep your local bike shop open when I buy an overpriced Nomad and spandex from them. Then I will share my cold beer with you in the parking lot. Cheers.
  • 3 0
@Gfromars: HAHAHAHA true Santa Cruz is Joeys bike of choice
  • 4 1
Thats funny all I see those spandoids riding are Pivots and Stumpjumpers. SC has and always will be the brand started by skaters for skaters.
  • 1 0
@skookumsalmonarm: Ha Ha, down voted because the trails i ride. i mean suspension and brakes are one thing but i dont know how the sport progressed from riding fire roads in the 80's to redbull rampage with out being able to drop your seat while you rideSmile

@skookumsalmonarm this comment not necessarily directed at you, just couldnt reply to my own comment

they lower their seats prior to hitting gnarly lines. Seems easy enough.
  • 1 0
@nvranka: "Idiot" I may be, but I grew up witnessing the most beautiful (flawless) bikes glistening in the sun as it cruised along decomposed granite of West Cliff. As a student who could only afford a bike 8 years old, it certainly was frustrating to realize so many top-o-line bikes would never be ridden as intended. Surely the gray earned the right to purchase and own the bike, but it doesn't change the fact status played a role.

Pissed off, pushing my bike miles from home in the rain and wind with a flat tyre. A van stopped and offered me and my bike a lift home. It was the Burgtec distributor for the UK here in Stockport. I am now a fan of Burgtec ...

The irony of Brendan Fairclough saying Ratboy got "out before he has to jump on the wagon wheel bandwagon" www.instagram.com/p/BT1xJKJFApp/?hl=en

Meanwhile, here Ratboy is jumping the wagon wheels like a mad man–fully on the bandwagon and smiling.

In a bike check video he did he said his Hightower is like riding his DH bike
  • 9 1
incredible amount of flow and style in a sub 3min vid! still waitin for the 50to01 playlist as well Wink
  • 11 2
Ratboy, you inspire me to live a better, more interesting life.
  • 6 1
The style of this reminds me of burning calves or any other 90's biking movie that loved biking more than perfect edits or flashy camerawork
  • 8 0
 Was that Adam Sandler?
  • 1 0
I keep laughing, as much as I try to resist.
  • 7 1
sarcasm> why would you want a rider advertising your pedals when their feet come off them every jump? /sarcasm>
  • 5 1
really wishing that he would be back at the WCs next year and this year is just a sabbatical. the WC circuit is a better place when he is involved (he is a WC Overall Champion and a WC Silver Medalist after all).
  • 6 1
One thing's for sure: This video will probably sell more mountain bikes than any result he's ever posted on the World Cup Circuit.
  • 1 0
Too true. Imagine how many people have thought "Wow, those 5010's sure can take a beating. They must be a hoot to ride! I'll save up for one."

His videos lately are like the ones from Chris Akrigg. They almost make me believe that I could do the same if I just had the same bike.
Marketing: 100% done.
  • 8 2
This young man is enjoying life. So cool.
  • 3 1
Didn't he say that i wanna keep the environment more and the World Cup circuit requires many travels hence he quit it. Even though it Seem like he still travel around the world for a mtb productions...
  • 4 0
No he didn't. Claudio said that. He probably got mixed up with Harry Heath retiring at the same time for those reasons.
  • 8 7
This will be downvoted in no time but... I can't help but wonder hong long rat boy can produce amateurish content and maintain pro contracts.

Admit it... 90% of that video could be any joe (ya, ya, "you can relate" and the editing and filming is barely a step above film school 101 (you don't need all the artistic filler crap.... but these are just hacked together clips).

I know, rat fan boys love it... but you're probably the same ones who slag grins for similar videos and probably hated on semenuk for his less than pro level bmx clip!
  • 8 1
For as long as he epitomises mountain biking; that is, having fun.
  • 3 1
@u-otter-b-sry: see how many sponsors you can get as a representatve of good times. Those few spots seem to be taken.

Rat is an amazing rider and infectious personality. I just don't feel these vids reflect that...
  • 3 1
Right on! another video of ratboy not giving a FUCK!! these dudes are doing the opposite of whats popular in the mtb comunity DGAF
  • 6 3
This might actually be the best thing I've ever seen.
  • 2 5
 Haha! Ok.
  • 3 0
...reminds me of good oldschool freeride videos Smile Nice one !
  • 3 2
If that video doesn’t make you want burgtec bars and stem and pedals, nothing will!!
  • 2 1
That was so rad my face melted. So amped on the way rat boy has gone, sick sick sick
  • 1 0
Excellent ! Makes me think of old school videos, but with modern quality. Love it !
  • 2 0
 What bike is he on?
  • 1 0
 5010
  • 1 0
Most of it is on a Hightower 29er... then 5010, I think I saw a bronson too.
  • 1 0
@silkyrhino: yes, sorry, also a hightower. The hightower is the black with green logos, the 5010 is black with rainbow tie dye logos.
  • 1 0
Whats Ratboy riding? Bronson or Nomad?
  • 4 1
Probably 5010, that's what he says he rides mostly these days. And Hightower for EWS rounds.

Which really begs the question: if all Ratboy needs is (admittedly sorted) 130mm trail bike for smashing around on, who really needs any more than that!? Makes me feel a bit silly having 150mm travel.
  • 4 0
 @akexhyland
They ride 150 front dude, as I ride with them!!
Otherwise stock on 5010
Hightower's 160 front!!
  • 1 0
His rainbow decal bike is a 5010. He also rides and races a hightower but it's the more standard, black with green graphics model.
  • 7 0
@alexhyland: He only needs 130 because he's smooth AF.
  • 2 0
@Murfdog: Ha! Still tho, I bought my frame thinking it was something my riding would grow into. Rode a mate's 130mm trail bike the other day and was like "who am I kidding??". Would easily cover any riding I'm likely to be doing and some. A lot of some.
  • 1 1
 @Murfdog: Thanks!!

Do they rock the 130mm rear so they get less compression for jumps? I smash trails (sometimes with my face) so i love my bronson with 150mm rear but it def has its drawbacks on jumps with the longer travel sucking my speed and bucking me a bit awkwardly (need to slow my rebound to help with this)

the last spot is not far from sheffield. not a bad spot for a play around

 Favorited after like immediately.
  • 1 0
So if I buy Burgtec I can drive like Ratboy? Must buy that stuff now!
  • 1 0
Proper thrashing or whatever they say
  • 1 0
Lame, go back to the 90's or get back on your DH rig. #MakeRatBoyRaceAgain
  • 2 1
 It's not in sheffield
  • 1 3
 Where's the spot in Sheffield?
  • 2 2
I got some ideas about where they are, but just in case im right i dont wanna spoil them as they are nice private spots. Tbh i dont think Josh (ratboy) would tell anyone anyway. Frown
  • 1 1
Not in Sheffield actually, but not too far away. (Not going to say exactly where though). Used to ride there years ago when I lived down the road. Miserable local pensioners/dog walkers etc with nothing better to do would destroy the trails/features so it died down for a while. Good to see people are building there again (raises fist). Must have a trip back for old times.
  • 1 1
@Shatner: this place never died #locallove
  • 1 0
@anythingmtb: it kinda went quiet for a bit when trail builders moved up the road to trail x (although a mate told me that's all gone now) Frown
