@motoboy36: Haha..yep. I remember that used to be a snowboarding term only. Then there's also messing up and "dabbing". Now dabbing is a silly arm move. Kids these days...I tell ya.
He puts on a cornering clinic with every video he's in.
I just wish he'd host a real cornering clinic. It would be well worth the money and super entertaining.
This video is so opposite of my concept of Santa Cruz. Here in AZ every well healed retiree (pensioner) buys a Santa Cruz. So I constantly see grey haired 60+ year olds in " Stans no tubes" spandex doing loops on flat trails with their wives, each with a 6k dollar Santa Cruz. Many are from California, they likely associate the brand from their youth.
I have noticed it too, though I live in the bay area near santa cruz. I think its influenced by the high ticket, boutique-status the rich geezers like to portray (the price of sc bikes lend to their opulence).
Sounds like coachvernon worries too much about others instead of just living his life. Who gives a shit that retirees and their wives prefer SC? It's all about what's important to you. For every a*shole that whines about bikes being too expensive there's a kid that flipped burgers and bought a $6k bike instead of drinking two redbulls a day.
@skookumsalmonarm: no, most of the riding spots where im at its pedal up, then drop your seat and bomb down. no real need. thought about it few times like when i raced a super d in fontana.
I'm only 50. Still in SD. Bought the wife a bike but she won't ride. Still looking for this flat loop you speak of. Dickies hide my padded underwear. Voted for the dropper (thanks reverb). Grey haired. But let me know where you live so when I retire I can keep your local bike shop open when I buy an overpriced Nomad and spandex from them. Then I will share my cold beer with you in the parking lot. Cheers.
@skookumsalmonarm: Ha Ha, down voted because the trails i ride. i mean suspension and brakes are one thing but i dont know how the sport progressed from riding fire roads in the 80's to redbull rampage with out being able to drop your seat while you ride

@nvranka: "Idiot" I may be, but I grew up witnessing the most beautiful (flawless) bikes glistening in the sun as it cruised along decomposed granite of West Cliff. As a student who could only afford a bike 8 years old, it certainly was frustrating to realize so many top-o-line bikes would never be ridden as intended. Surely the gray earned the right to purchase and own the bike, but it doesn't change the fact status played a role.
Pissed off, pushing my bike miles from home in the rain and wind with a flat tyre. A van stopped and offered me and my bike a lift home. It was the Burgtec distributor for the UK here in Stockport. I am now a fan of Burgtec ...
really wishing that he would be back at the WCs next year and this year is just a sabbatical. the WC circuit is a better place when he is involved (he is a WC Overall Champion and a WC Silver Medalist after all).
His videos lately are like the ones from Chris Akrigg. They almost make me believe that I could do the same if I just had the same bike. Marketing: 100% done.
Didn't he say that i wanna keep the environment more and the World Cup circuit requires many travels hence he quit it. Even though it Seem like he still travel around the world for a mtb productions...
This will be downvoted in no time but... I can't help but wonder hong long rat boy can produce amateurish content and maintain pro contracts.
Admit it... 90% of that video could be any joe (ya, ya, "you can relate" and the editing and filming is barely a step above film school 101 (you don't need all the artistic filler crap.... but these are just hacked together clips).
I know, rat fan boys love it... but you're probably the same ones who slag grins for similar videos and probably hated on semenuk for his less than pro level bmx clip!
Probably 5010, that's what he says he rides mostly these days. And Hightower for EWS rounds.
Which really begs the question: if all Ratboy needs is (admittedly sorted) 130mm trail bike for smashing around on, who really needs any more than that!? Makes me feel a bit silly having 150mm travel.
@Murfdog: Ha! Still tho, I bought my frame thinking it was something my riding would grow into. Rode a mate's 130mm trail bike the other day and was like "who am I kidding??". Would easily cover any riding I'm likely to be doing and some. A lot of some.
Do they rock the 130mm rear so they get less compression for jumps? I smash trails (sometimes with my face) so i love my bronson with 150mm rear but it def has its drawbacks on jumps with the longer travel sucking my speed and bucking me a bit awkwardly (need to slow my rebound to help with this)
I got some ideas about where they are, but just in case im right i dont wanna spoil them as they are nice private spots. Tbh i dont think Josh (ratboy) would tell anyone anyway.
Not in Sheffield actually, but not too far away. (Not going to say exactly where though). Used to ride there years ago when I lived down the road. Miserable local pensioners/dog walkers etc with nothing better to do would destroy the trails/features so it died down for a while. Good to see people are building there again (raises fist). Must have a trip back for old times.
its burgtec bro, how dare you try and cast shade on a fucking fantastic home grown company, have you ever even tested any of these products or are you just making an ignorant generalisation.

Meanwhile, here Ratboy is jumping the wagon wheels like a mad man–fully on the bandwagon and smiling.

Rat is an amazing rider and infectious personality. I just don't feel these vids reflect that...

They ride 150 front dude, as I ride with them!!
Otherwise stock on 5010
Hightower's 160 front!!
