Young Rider Passes Away After Accident at BC Cup DH Race
Track builder and long time downhill racer here. It's a delicate situation for sure. There's absolutely no way we could make this sport 100% safe. I'm sure everyone agrees that there have been COUNTLESS sections of track where we know that if we or someone else messes up this section up in the right way, they are going to have a very very bad day. We bury this way of thinking down deep to the point where it's almost an intrusive thought (impossible to ride well otherwise), but the number of sections like this on trails we ride are countless and there's just no way around that. THAT SAID, deaths from accidents (not health related) are extremely rare in this sport - especially when it's a skilled, well equipped and well prepared rider. It's impossible not to dig into a situation like this and figure out what went wrong and how it could have been prevented from several perspectives (track, safety equipment, training, etc). The low number of deaths means that a lot has to go wrong for something like this to happen, and it's difficult not to think about what needs to change in order for that not to happen. I know those two paragraphs are contradictory, but I think that's what a lot of us contend with when something like this happens.

Opinion: Group Rides Are the Worst
@scott-townes: The secret is that, when you do crash and get injured and an alert goes out, make sure muster your strength and drag you and your bike over to gnarlier feature so that that the emergency services aren't disappointed that you somehow managed to mess yourself up on the easy table tops...again!

Dörte Kompakttool - The Coolest Trail Tool at Eurobike 2022
You laugh but I really need one of these with an accelerometer on the head (which will need to charge from my high capacity battery of course) so that I can flex objective data on Strava comments about how much harder I swing my tool .

What We Know So Far About the Heartbreaking Murder of Moriah "Mo" Wilson
@Bro-LanDog: Those things happen in the US too. Of course, now we have to resort to saying "Naww that happens way more in other countries", which would lead to us comparing statistics on mass killings and finding that the US is still well ahead of the pack of developed countries.
