by Ed Spratt
We use Slack as our workplace communication tool at Pinkbike and we have a #randoms channel that we use to share an assortment of videos and stories from all corners of the cycling world and beyond... We thought a couple of the moments from the past week were too good not to share with a wider audience, so here are some of the highlights.

The Beam & Virgo Move Create a Full-Face Helmet for Commuting

To tackle the safety issue of city commuting and especially urban riding on faster eBikes The Beam & Virgo Move have come together to create a wild-looking new full-face helmet. Looking like a product straight out of the halls of Eurobike the Kickstarter project is already well past its initial goal and is set to be delivered to customers this August. For anyone that wants to wait for the full production release stock is expected in the autumn.

'Defending the Crown' - Behind the Scenes of Emil Johansson's 2022 Season

bigquotes’Heavy is the head that wears the Crown’ is a full-length behind-the-scenes documentary film, following my 2022 season. Coming into the season the goals were all set.

At first everything more or less seems to go as planned, but that soon changes with a broken hand just weeks before Red Bull Joyride. To top it off - during the final run in Australia, were I could have secured The Triple Crown, I get knocked out in a crash. This put me in a situation where I need to win the last competition, in just four weeks time to secure the both The Triple Crown and the World Tour Title.

The film focus on what it takes to be on top and what it takes to stay there, even when nothing seems to go your way. The mindset, the willpower and the hunger to overcome. We want to inspire others that with hard work and determination you can achieve great things.

Filmed & edited by: Peter Eriksson

Additional filming by:
Scott Robb, Hunter Paull, Lukas Skiöld.

Absolutely bang-on. It also reminds me of slalom (ski) racing helmets with the bar across the jawline to keep the gates from breaking teeth.

Okay so can it be widely accepted to be cool at least fine to wear goggles with halfies and3/4s if THAT thing exists

Nice helmet for modern e-bike jousting!

That helmet is awesome. It will be perfect for identifying the e-biker who's way out of his depth and will need a heli lift out of the local trail network in about 30 minutes.

Can’t wait for ebikers to be in full leather suits with knee pucks for dragging on corners.

"Style, comfort and protection" with that Virgo helmet.
I guess as an e-biker you may actually find it stylish.
But even then I'm not sure if it's not perceived as outright ridiculous! Like those ski helmets with a visor.

Can we make that helmet mandatory with ebikes?
  • 12 0
That helmet has been all over my instagram ads, and I don't know why and I do not like it.
  • 11 1
Why would you not make a helmet designed for commuting a more visible colour? It's the highest point on a cyclist.
  • 1 0
Or at least a reflective coating besides the light. They did show a lighter color one so maybe they have brighter colors.
  • 1 0
A can of florescent plasti-dip solves that.

Probably going to get down voted but of Rocky has an R&D dept how did they end up putting bushings in bikes for years? It's a sore point for me as l ran into the Rocky VP of something on a trail day and he was kind enough to give me a link to a part number I could order for $100+ which replaced the most problematic one. No chance of a warranty.

I always though the way Rocky broke bikes was by selling them to idiots at wildly inflated prices and simply waiting.

I think wearing any full face whenever riding near moving vehicles is always a good idea.

If there is proper physical separation between cyclists and motor vehicles (prime example: The Netherlands), you can safely ditch your helmet.
  • 26 0
@mi-bike: You two may actually be saying the same thing
  • 9 0
@mi-bike: While cars are the primary visible danger to experienced riders, telling a noob with a bike that can go 30+ mph to ditch the helmet isn't a good idea.

The Broped helmet is perfect. One step closer to a moto helmet, pegs and no pedals.

Looks aside, the commuter helmet seems pretty well designed. Large ear holes to hear traffic, place to mount a taillight and it still weighs less that the more expensive enduro helmets I've been shopping for. Hopefully it's actually safe, God knows all those people suddenly interested in biking need all the protection they can get.
  • 4 0
All jokes aside, the helmet looks like it'd be pretty well suited for tire changers on race car pit crews.
