It looks like if you have Riley in your name your chances of being good on a bicycle and making the Worlds team are rather good.

@lelandjt: DH hasn’t happened yet. That’s the one I’m really wondering about.

The winner of the 2023 USA Cycling Mountain Bike DHI National Championship in each category, Junior
Men & Women, Elite Men & Women, will be automatically nominated to the 2023 USA Cycling MTB DHI team
provided that race is held in its entirety and run under UCI regulations. Given that this event takes place after the final Team selection date, any rider who wins the above-mentioned National Championships and has not yet been named to the Team will be added to the Team in addition to the athletes already confirmed, provided that a quota position remains available in their category. The National Champion is considered as a Level 2: Partial-Funded position.

How did we pick two Swiss women for the US downhill team?
  • 3 0
Logistics, it is the way for non-European countries to make it somewhat doable to compete in cycling sport on the world leve.. The whole team including support can crash at their place, team trucks can park on the driveway. The Swiss ladies may not know yet though and are still celebrating in disbelief. Don't tell them, please allow them to celebrate a little longer.

They are both from the US, but currently live in Europe to make racing world cups easier.

Why is Blevins the only male elite XC rider going? I would think since XC has been big in the US for a while we’d have a lot more gents ready for the world stage?
  • 1 0
He's the only competitive male American racer on the world stage, US may have only gotten 1 invite.

Was hoping Keegan Swenson would swoop into worlds too after being on such a vision quest this season.

Gwin is not going to worlds?

Still recovering from a broken arm.

5 women XC, 1 man. Seems like a LOT of women are going? Don't they have a fixed limit of 2 or 3 max?
  • 2 0
I believe quota's are based on national rankings based on WC performances and UCI points. Only real name we have in Elite men is Blevins so US is pretty far down the rankings for Elite Men. Olympics have smaller fields of max 3 per country but world champs are larger and thus have more slots to allocate out.
  • 1 0
@wilsonians: for XCO Olympics max is only two per country now and that’s only the top eight countries. Others get only one rider or none at all

 Burbank wassup, Temecula too
